Remembering the

Beautiful Life of

Musie “Moses” Mahari

We grieve today because when we

prepare for Sunday’s dinner, you will not

be coming up the stairs, leading your

family into the upstairs house.

We are sad because you are not sharing

one of your jokes, talking about the

Celtics, Sox or Pats that you loved, or

expressing your view on politics.

We mourn for you today because we will miss out on all

that you did, every day, without saying I’m tired, I’m

sick, or I just don’t want to do it.

I believe that you are still here with us so I’m

going to talk about you in the present.

My son, my heart

You are a son who was always there to take care of your parents.

You brought them to their friends’ houses and took them to doctor visits among other things.

My brother, my father figure, my friend

...to your siblings, and was

always there to listen to

their dilemmas.

You are a brother who drove

your sister to boarding school

on the weekends, provided

advice and guidance...

My uncle, Zio

You are “Zio”, an uncle who treated each of your eight nieces and

nephews as if they were your own child.

You took them sledding, to the movies, on annual family trips to DC, and

you attended their school functions.

My friend, my brother

You are a loyal friend who would

travel great distances to serve a friend in need. At a community

event, you were there to help set-up,

clean-up, plan and just make sure everyone was comfortable.

My father, my hero

You are a

father who has

made your kids

your number one

priority. You led

by example and

taught them

with love.

My husband, my heart

You are a husband

who found his

soul mate and

openly expressed

his love and

admiration to her.

Today is a sad day but it’s also a day of

celebration. We are all better off having

known you, whether it was for a day or

for a lifetime. We celebrate today

because you left two children who will

continue your legacy of bringing smiles

when people need them the most. You

have touched hundreds, if not thousands

of people around the world who join us

in celebrating your life.

When you were sick, you would still reach out

to someone who was sicker.

If someone was in a fight, you would be the

one to bring them closer together.

You did this modestly, never letting on that

you were tired or just needed some alone time.

Your patience was limitless.

You are the light of our house.

We never thought that God would call you like

this but it is meant to be for you to join Baba,

Zerai and Dawit. Please give your strength to

Solomon so he may continue to be the rock that

keeps us together. You are truly a beautiful

person who will remain forever in our hearts.

We celebrate you because you are a true gift

from God who has blessed so many with you presence.

At night we can look up and see that

a star shines more brightly over Cambridge.

We will miss your

infectious smile and

your laughter. Most of

us in this room can

easily think of

something funny you

said to make us laugh.

We miss you Musie.

Love,

The Maharis

“You are loved…”
