Dear Friends, Our hearts go out to the people of Orlando who have lost loved ones in yet another act of violence. I join in prayer with you for them. We pray for lives ended or maimed in a hail of hatred, and for their loved ones. Those whose lives have been spared are now changed forever, and we ask God to help them find solace and strength in the hard days ahead.
We are thankful for first responders who run toward gunfire, rather than away; for those who drop everything to save the wounded and comfort survivors. We pray for doctors and nurses and mental health providers, who repair what has been broken and bring healing and hope in the face of the principalities and powers of violence. We pray for peace officers and peacekeepers everywhere and ask God to help us become a society of peacemakers, shaped by the love of our Prince of Peace. As a community that knows similar violence, our hearts are angered and touched by sorrow, and we commit ourselves to diligently seek healing, justice, safety and compassion for all. It is a precious gift to be a part of a church of loving people who serve as an expression of grace in this world. We do this through the constant embrace of our God of Love, Whom we know through His son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. May this place, where Christ’s love meets our life, be a source of goodness in our broader society that permeates all our interactions and contributes to our life together. Yours in Christ,
Steve
