6th Grade International Days:
International Days are a culmination of the year-long United Nations theme that is
integral to the sixth grade social studies curriculum. The days have two components,
each of which foster cultural and global awareness . On one day speakers from the
Penn Museum, as well as experts from our school community, conduct workshops in
their special areas. This year, we have speakers from Nigeria, Brazil, Israel, Mongo-
lia, Jamaica, and the Caribbean. Other topics included “Surviving Cambodia,”
“Egyptian Dance,” “African Drumming,” “Living Around the World,” and “Why
Study Abroad?”
At the Penn Museum students enjoyed guided tours of the Egyptian galleries where
the Sphinx is enjoying his 100th birthday; as well as a special mummification work-
shop. A Chinese international spoke to the 6th graders about life in China and they
also visited the Mesopotamia, China and Human Evolution galleries and the artifact
lab.
Special thanks to Kelly Caulfield and Kim Petruzzi , our parent volunteers who pro-
vided refreshments for our guest speakers; and our 6th grade parent speakers: Lilma
Schimmel, Michelle DeMoras, Bankole Songunuga, Richard Cresson, Duane Bel-
grave, and Kimberly Linton.

From the Home and School:
Many thanks to the 6th grade parents for the generous food donations during 6th Grade International Week. The students had a
great week learning about archeology, ancient history & the diversity of human cultures. Your donations provided a delicious
breakfast & lunch for the speakers that helped to enrich the event for the students. Thanks again - your help was greatly appreci-
ated!

your help! This year the Home and School has kindly allocated $500 towards the 8th grade
dance. We anticipate 400 people will attend. We are asking parents to please consider a
monetary donation or some of your time to help make this years “Hollywood Nights...Walk
