From a total of total of 20 questionnaires distributed the results were equally split between both male and female genders however this was expected as the questionnaires were intentionally distributed equally between both genders to give and equal representation

The age group is varied. The majority of people willing to answer the questionnaire were between the age 16 – 19. the results show that the younger ages are more willing to answer the questionnaires.

Question 3: What is your preferred genre?

The majority of people asked prefer the genre of hip hop followed by indie. This shows that the genre of our music video is quite a popular. Furthermore the fact that no body chose the other option illustrates that the different categories were enough to categorise the sample.

This chart illustrates that the sample group only watches music videos for short periods of time. It shows that our music video must be of an average length, if longer than usual then it may not be viewed as the audience can become bored.

These results show that the majority of the sample group watch music video almost everyday. This shows the accessibility of media viewing technologies available.

New digital media are where most of the music videos are watch possibly due to the wide range and choice available, for example a person using YouTube can have access to any music video they wish to view through the use of a search and finding specific tracks whereas channels like MTV while still popular are limited. This suggested the best place to distribute a music video would be online rather than through TV.

These results support the chart opposite, online media especially social networks are a easier and accessible form of promotion followed by word of mouth.

video?

This chart shows that sample group are resilient to change as this shows a general trend of the group on watching music videos a specific genre most likely their specific genre. As previous data suggested hip hop is quite a popular genre so my music video is most likely to be highly viewed according to this data.

Question 9: Do you prefer to watch music videos or listen to the song?

The results of this question suggest that it is more popular to listen to music than watch a video. This slightly contradicts previous data that suggests that the new social forms of media make it easier to watch music videos. However this is expected as portable technologies such as smartphones and mp3 players means that more people would listen to music rather than taking the time to watch.

Question 10: Why does your genre appeal to you the most when

watching music videos?In order to slightly vary the type of data from quantitative to qualitative this question was an open ended question. The response varied however there was a pattern in most which could be grouped. The first and most popular response spoke about the artist. Most people watch music videos to see the artist rather that just listening. The next response was about the content. There is visible difference in each genre so would play a major part in the appeal to the audience. For example the bling culture usually associated in hip hop would not be as appealing to someone who prefers the more darker tones suggested in maybe the rock genre. The final response was about the sensitivity. Negative representations of, genders, age groups and ethnicities etc. is looked down upon so if this was placed within the video wouldn’t be as appealing to the person watching the music video.

This question showed which type of music video is more popular. A narrative is the dominant choice suggest that people what a clear story they can follow from start to finish while watching the music video instead of a concept video, based around a them or idea.
