MUSIC VIDEO – PROPS

GLASS/WHISKEY/ICE

We will be using a glass, whiskey and Ice to drop on the floor, this prop will be used in the opening scene for our music video. We have a close up – low shot facing that arm of a chair, to which the whiskey glass will hit the ground. We will also use Foley sounds to add to the effect.

We will also be following O’Sullivan et al’s theory which states that a stereotype is a label that involves a process of categorisation and evaluation.

TRENCH COAT

A trench coat will be placed on the main character constantly throughout the video, this is essential to the mis-en-scene as the coat is a symbol and denotes the characters type of personality. The trench coat offers a selection of thoughts when you see it on screen. It gives the character a hint of mystery.

We will be using verisimilitude to enforce realism in our music video, all poor people stereotypically have rather ragged clothing so the trench coat will be made to look old/dirty. We are trying to enforce the ‘poor person’ stereotype.

VARIOUS INSTRUMENTS

The instruments are a necessity as our video is based on both narrative as well as performance. Our actors will be using these instruments for the performance part of the video, timed along with the music track.

These micro elements will be there for the main purpose of playing music, the band will be playing the song however the video will be muted and placed alongside the original track

MIRROR

We will be placing a mirror in a member of my teams house, we plan to find the perfect location to place the mirror to get the exact shot we require. We plan for an over the shoulder shot that looks into the mirror.

The mirror will be presenting a binary opposite of good vs evil. The real character will feel like he’s a good person but his reflection will display his darker, more twisted side.

CAR

The car most likely to be used will be a BMW Series 1, the character will be involved with the car near the end of the music video. The car is currently planned to be placed in the final scene where the main character will have a near miss.

Our reason for using a BMW is because is because of BMW’s good reputation for making cars which helps me to connote the feelings behind our character. It shows that our character is hiding his true emotions behind his materialistic things to try and trick himself into thinking he has a happy life.

COSTUME

The mis-en-scene clothing throughout the video will be smart casual, but only from the performance point of view. Half of the band will be wearing completely different clothing. The drummer will be wearing smart clothing such as a suit and tie, however the lead vocalist will be wearing rough clothing such as a jean jacket and black jeans.

Our reason for mix-matching the mis-en-scene of our performance members is because we want to create a juxtaposition. It is to connote the hidden meaning that people of different social class will never be able to co-exist happily.
