best programming and biggest guest artists from the orchestral and pops worlds.
The US Airways Classics series features big music like Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9,
Mahler’s Fifth Symphony and Verdi’s massive Requiem. The APS Pops season is
highlighted by musical tributes to Frank Sinatra, Barbra Streisand, Marvin Hamlisch
and the Academy Awards, and of course, the return of sold-out favorites like Holiday
Pops and Cirque de la Symphonie. The 2013/14 season offers an impressive range
of guest artists like world-renowned pianist Lang Lang, cellist Daniel Müller-Schott,
folk-rock duo the Indigo Girls and The Midtown Men. Whether you are excited about

The Phoenix Symphony kicks off the 2013/14 season with
Beethoven’s triumphant Symphony No. 9 under the baton
of one of America’s most promising and talented young
conductors, Andrew Grams, who created magic in his 2011
Phoenix debut with a tour de force performance of
Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5. The Phoenix Symphony
and Chorus will burst forth with the famous “Ode to Joy”
and fill Symphony Hall with the majestic sounds of one of
the greatest musical compositions ever written.

the winner and newly crowned Classical Fellow of the
2013 American Pianist Association Competition* to

Classical Kids Live! Mozart’s Magnificent Voyage
The critically acclaimed Classical Kids Live! production brings to life Mozart’s young
son, Karl, who longs to be taken from his boarding school to spend more time with
his famous father. An old traveling trunk serves as a magic chest that reveals an
incredible journey back in time to Mozart’s childhood and into the fantastic world of
Mozart’s great opera The Magic Flute. Audiences will enjoy twenty-three excerpts of
Mozart’s music, including themes from Don Giovanni and “eine Kleine Nachtmusik.”
The music is magically woven into the drama as two actors recreate historical events
from the composer’s life.
