1st Grade:

We will be learning about . . . Expression (“Carnival of the Animals” by Camille Saint-Saëns) Rhythmic Expression (creating spring haiku poems) Ask me to sing: “Mr. Rabbit”

3rd Grade: We will be learning about . . . Recorder (performance techniques, playing pitches) Practice (independence, routines to improve, working with a partner) Ask me to sing: “Gently Sleep”, “Merrily we Roll Along”

5th Grade: We will be learning about . . . World Music (African, Latin, and Asian ensembles) World Drumming (using percussion instru-ments to improvise patterns) Ask me about: Instruments from Africa, Salsa, Mariachi, and Tango, and Japanese theater

2nd Grade: We will be learning about . . . Expression (“Peter and the Wolf” by Prokofiev) Lyrical Expression (“What a Wonderful World” by Louis Armstrong) Ask me to sing: “What a Wonderful World”

4th Grade: We will be learning about . . . Rhythm (note and rest values, syncopation, composing a pattern) World Drumming (using percussion instruments to improvise patterns) Reminder: Bring in a recycled material to perform your rhythm composition (Week of April 16—20)!

Chorus: REMINDERS: Practice memorizing your lyrics at home using your lyrics sheets!!! We only have about a month left until the concert on May 7th at 7:00 in the CDMS auditorium (details to come)! Ask me to sing: “Al Sholsha”, “Sing (Canta Una Canción), “Better Place”, “Shake the Pa-paya Down”

Greetings We are SPRINGING into musical expression this month in general music classes! In first and second grades, we look at story telling and how musical instruments are able to represent characters. In third grade, recorder instruments are used to create musical independence and students use them to express their musical knowledge. In fourth grade, we utilize rhythms and create recycled percussion compositions, while fifth graders discover musical elements from around the world. Take some time to learn about what these students are learning about this month!
