Music Magazine Evaluation Four &

FiveDrew Allen

My magazine is targeted at people aged between 15-50. I have chosen a large age range because the older people will be interested in all the old rock bands and my aim is to get the younger generation to create a liking for the genre. I hope that this will keep the rock music genre alive. My main focus will be male as it is seen as a male orientated genre, although I want to draw in females too. I have done this using stories of up and coming female artistes. My magazine is £2.99 as I am targeting to C2DE, lower class. I have not chosen an ethnicity for my magazine.

My genre attract this target audience by the house style, shot types, models, props and the stories within the magazine. These things help me attract my specific target audience that I have set

Throughout the magazine I have used dark colours and a splash of colour, in this case I have used red. I have also used a scratched font for the masthead on the front cover, for the cover lines on the contents page and for the masthead on the double page spread. I have used this house style, the font and the red text, because it stereotypical resembles danger, which stereotypically represents rockers who are my target audience.

For my images I have mixture of long shots and medium shots so that the reader is able to see the clothing of the people in the images. The people in the images are dressed in the stereotypical dark clothing but I have also gone against stereotypes by them being dressing smart, glamorous clothing. I have chosen these shot types to show off what the people in the images are wearing. I have done this for the younger half of my target audience because glamorous clothing appeals more to them, as image is everything to the younger generation. I have kept the dark clothing and typical leather jackets for the older generation so that they can still relate. I have also added glamor to the images in the hope that people will see rock as a more respected genre of music because rocker are see as a lower class of people than some other genres. This also creates roll models, which I hope will inspire the younger generation. I have used males and females in the images which I hope will attract both males and females of my target audience.

For my stories I have used stories that will interest my target audience. I have chosen stories such as new up and coming bands, which will interest the younger the younger half of my target audience and I have chosen stories such as AC/DC to the top as they are an old band who are still going and will interest the older half of my generation.

On the font cover the cover lines I have chose stories that will interest both age ranger, older and younger. I have chosen stories that are all about people that are current in the rock industry but have been in the music industry for a long time. This means that the younger generation will know them from current and the older generation will know them from when they started out.

To advertise my magazine I have look at place where my target audience might see it. I will advertise it on billboard, leaflets, other magazines/newspapers, radio stations, TV stations and the intent.

I will advertise on billboard in city centers and on road side so that a large amount of people will see it at once.

I will advertise on leaflets and place them at large music festivals where rock bands and artists play.

I will advertise on other other rock magazines similar to my magazine or on the advertisement page in papers.

I will advertise on social networking sights on the internet. For example Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and more…

I will advertise on radio station that play rock music . For example Classic Rock and Kerrang.

I will advertise on TV music channel that play rock music. For example Kerrang and MTV rocks.
