In this packet is information about scholarships and tuition waivers available to students enrolled in the College of Fine Arts and Design for the 2014-2015 academic year. The applications are due no later than 5:00 pm on February 7, 2014 and should be returned to Evans Hall Room 105. Only completed application packets will be eligible for review.
A completed application packet will contain the following:

Before you apply for any scholarships, read the requirements carefully and be sure that you qualify. For example, some scholarships are for freshmen only, some may have a GPA requirement, etc. You must turn in one (1) application, one (1) transcript and one (1) typed personal artistic statement for each scholarship you apply for. Make sure to check what, if any, additional materials are required. Faculty reference/support forms willbeturnedintotheofficebythefacultymembersthemselves.Itisyour responsibility, however, to give the faculty member the form in a timely manner.

The Brisch Family Music Outreach Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: EstablishedJuly24,2007toprovidefinancialassistancetostudentswithintheUniversityofCentralOklahoma’s School of Music who are active participants in the Music Outreach program.
Qualifications: The scholarship is open to any student within the School of Music regardless of full or part time status or grade level. There is no grade point average (GPA) minimum requirement.
Requirements:The recipient(s) must be involved with the Music Outreach program at least once a month.

Hans Brisch Biography
Educator, Husband, Father, Brother, Friend…
Dr. Hans Brisch was named the fourth Chancellor for the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education on December 14, 1987. He is known for the courage, vision and strength he brought to the realm of higher education, often referring to hisworkthroughvisualdefinition:“Aclassroomisfourwallswithafutureinside.”AsoneofOklahoma’smostrespectedleaders, he and his team ambitiously carried out the goal of providing higher education opportunities for Oklahomans, servingcountlessmanyinthenameof“studentsuccess.”
Born in Germany in 1940, Dr. Brisch immigrated to the United States at the age of 17 and completed his high school and college education while supporting himself through work, scholarships and loans. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Park College in Political Science with a minor in chemistry, and a Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degree in Political Science from the University of Kansas. Academic honors accorded Hans Brisch include Fulbright-Hays Fellow, University of Alabama Research Grant Award, Venice Seminar Fellow, Public Administrative Fellow, Seminar Fellow – University of Belgrade and NDFL Title VI Fellow.
During his career Dr. Brisch served as Chancellor for the Oklahoma State System of Higher Education. He received his Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Kansas. Early in his career he taught at the University of Alabama, University of Nebraska, Nebraska Wesleyan University and served at the Illinois Board of Higher Education. He also served as the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs, Executive Assistant to the President, and Associate Executive Vice President and Provost at the University of Nebraska, and Chief of Staff for Nebraska Governor Kay Orr.
Dr. Brisch was a member of numerous professional, academic and civic organizations and held positions of active leadership in many. Dr. Brisch passed away February 22, 2006, leaving his wife Margaret, their three children: Ellen, Matthew, and Megan, grandson Samuel and his sister Gisela Bridge.

The Frank Nelson Scholarship for Collaborative Piano
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established in 2012 by Pat Bolt in honor of Frank Nelson.
Qualifications: This scholarship is open to all full-time undergraduate and graduate students. It will be awarded to students in the collaborative piano program. There is no GPA requirement. Check List- A complete application includes:

Robert Glenn Rapp Scholar Incentive Award
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established December 14, 2004 to provide scholarship assistance to incoming freshmen students within the University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music.
Qualifications: The scholarship is open to any high school senior preparing to graduate with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0 and an ACT score of 22 or above. Candidates must be Oklahoma residents and display a high level of artistry in their area of study. Requirements:The recipient of this scholarship must maintain full-time enrollment (12 credit hours or more) each semester and continue to maintain at least an overall 3.0 GPA to receive the award in the following semester. The recipient will also be required to write a brief essay about any class and performance activities for each semester the scholarship is awarded. Copies of the essay will be sent to the Robert Glenn Rapp Foundation.
You are required to write a thank you note if awarded this scholarship. You must also represent the School of Music at audition days in the spring 2015.
Additional Application Components:Candidateschosenasfinalistsforthisawardwillbeaskedtosubmitafinalessayandparticipateinascholarship interview.
You will need to include 2 Teacher recommendation letters with application.

Robert Glenn Rapp Upper Level Music Award
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established September 2008 to provide scholarship assistance to a junior, senior, or graduate student within the University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music.
Qualifications: The scholarship is open to any junior, senior, or graduate student within the University of Central Oklahoma’s School of Music with a grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.0. Candidates must be Oklahoma residents and display a high level of artistry in their area of study. Requirements:The recipient of this scholarship must maintain full-time enrollment (12 credit hours undergraduate or 9 credit hours graduate) each semester and continue to maintain at least an overall 3.0 GPA to receive the award in the following semester. The recipient will also be required to write a brief essay about a class, research, creative or scholarly activity for each semester the scholarship is awarded. Copies of the essay will be sent to the Robert Glenn Rapp Foundation.
You are required to write a thank you note if awarded this scholarship. You must also represent the School of Music at audition days in the spring 2015.

Jill Marderness Endowed Bassoon Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established in August 2008 to provide scholarship assistance to students studying bassoon in the School of Music at the University of Central Oklahoma.
Qualifications: The scholarship was established to be awarded to bassoon majors within the School of Music. The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours, and meet all additional requirements. Requirements:In addition to participating in the UCO Symphony Orchestra and/or Wind Symphony, the recipient of this scholarship is required to participate in the Wind Chamber Music Program. He/she must make a contribution to the community as well, through outreach performances and presentations to area schools and organizations.
You are required to write a thank you note if awarded this scholarship. You must also represent the School of Music at audition days in the spring 2015.
These funds are awarded based on yearly auditions and application packet materials. This scholarship may be awarded to the same recipient in consecutive years; however, the current recipient must re-apply. Debra Papajohn Reed Memorial Endowed Scholarship
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established in 2013 to honor the memory of Debra Papjohn Reed.
Qualifications: The scholarship is open to full or part-time students studying theatre or musical theatre.
Requirements: The recipient must maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. Applicants may be a freshman, sophomore, junior or senior. Applicants must submit a one page statementabout how the role of make-up, hairstyling, costuming, scene design and other technical aspects of theatre impact the quality of a production

SCHOLARSHIPS BY NOMINATION ONLYSelection based on past performance, auditions, juries, recitals and academics.
Dr. Mel Lee Endowed Scholarship for Instrumental Music Education Qualifications:The scholarship may be awarded to a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student who has declared music education as their major in the UCO School of Music. The Recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.25 overall), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours (9 credit hours for graduate students), and meet all additional requirements.
Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, and performances, and s/he must make a contribution to the university community as well (clubs, student organizations, service activities, etc.).
Jan Pokorny Steele Endowed Piano Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship may be awarded to any student who is studying piano within the School of Music as a piano major. The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours (9 credit hours for graduate students), and meet all additional requirements.
Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, and performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the School of Music and its programs.
Peggy M. Spence Endowed Piano Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship may be awarded to any student who is studying piano within the School of Music as a piano major. The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours (9 credit hours for graduate students), and meet all additional requirements.

Dr. Lon Dehnert & Pamela K. Green Choral Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship may be awarded to any sophomore or junior student who is studying vocal music/vocal music education within the School of Music. The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours, and meet all additional requirements.
Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the School of Music and its programs.
Dr. Jesse Webster Endowed Vocal Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship will be awarded to a junior or senior majoring in vocal music (BM Performance, BME, or BM Music Theatre). The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0), maintain a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours and meet all additional requirements.
Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the Music Theatre program.
Allie A. Mitchell Music Theatre Scholarship Value and Duration:The Allie A. Mitchell Music Theatre Scholarship is valued and awarded at the faculty’s discretion. Multiple scholarship awards may be given as funds allow.
Qualifications:The scholarship may be awarded to any senior music theater major. The recipient must maintain high academic standing (minimum GPA 2.75), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours, and meet all additional requirements.
Additional Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, and performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the School of Music and its programs.

Kay Starr Music Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship is open to a junior or senior majoring in vocal music (BM Performance, BME, or BM Music Theatre). The student must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 hours, and maintain a 2.75 GPA.
Additional Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the School of Music and its programs.
Ralph Blane Endowed Instrumental Scholarship Qualifications:The scholarship is open to any music major studying instrumental music within the School of Music regardlessofclassification.Thereisnogradepointaverage(GPA)minimumrequirement,althoughthe recipient must maintain a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours, and meet all additional requirements.
Requirements:Inadditiontotheacademicqualificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchool of Music through events, programs, and performances, and s/he must demonstrate leadership in the School of Music and its programs.
Helen Heyde String Scholarship Value and Duration:The value varies based on the student’s ability and the needs of the UCO String Program. The award may be a one-time award or may be renewed at the discretion of the UCO String Faculty provided the recipientmaintainsallrequirementsandqualificationslistedbelow.
Qualifications:The scholarship is open to any student studying a string instrument within the School of Music regardlessofmajororclassification.Therecipientmustmaintainhighacademicstanding(minimumGPA 3.0 in string-related classes, and 2.5 overall), a full-time student status of at least 12 credit hours, and meet all additional requirements.
Additional Requirements:Inadditiontothequalificationslistedabove,therecipientmustbeactivelyinvolvedintheSchoolofMusic String Division through events, programs, and performances.

Westmoreland Fun Fund Scholarship
Qualifications: • Students must be nominated by faculty to reward a student who contributes to his or her programanddemonstrates“Fun.” • Student must be enrolled full or part-time in the College of Fine Arts and Design. • The scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students who have a minimum GPA of at least 3.0. Requirements:You are required to write a thank you note if you are awarded this scholarship.

Dean’s Scholarship Award
Scholarship Mission: This scholarship was established January 14, 2007 to provide scholarship assistance to junior, senior, or graduate students majoring in a discipline within the University of Central Oklahoma’s College of Fine Arts and Design.
Qualifications: Thescholarshipisopentoanyjunior,senior,orgraduatelevelstudentwhoexemplifieshighacademicstandards by bearing an overall grade point average of at least 3.5. Candidates must possess a high level of artistry in their area of discipline and demonstrate leadership, personal achievement, integrity and character. Candidates must also be enrolled full-time (at least 12 credit hours undergraduate or 9 credit hours graduate). Requirements:The recipient of this scholarship must maintain full-time enrollment (at least 12 credit hours undergraduate or 9 credit hours graduate) and maintain at least an overall 3.5 GPA to continue to receive the award for the spring semester. The recipient is required to type a brief essay about their artistic experience and performance activities for each semester the scholarship is awarded. Copies of the essay will be sent to donors and alumni and possibly be printed in donor related publications.
You are required to write a thank you note if you are awarded this scholarship.

Presidential Partners Awards – Julian & Irene RothbaumRequirements for scholarship consideration: • Oklahoma resident • Undergraduate student • Enrolled full time (minimum 12 hours) • 3.5 cumulative GPA • Completed 30 hours at UCO, 12 hours in your academic major
Robert Aldridge Armed Forces Scholarship Requirements for this scholarship: • Full-time student • Minimum 2.5 GPA • Must be active military, a veteran who is honorably or medically discharged, and/or a member of the National Guard
For those that meet the Robert Aldridge Armed Forces Scholarship criteria, priority consideration will be given in order of importance, to: 1) A member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart2) A student whose education has been interrupted by a call to active duty3) A student currently serving in the armed forces or the National or Air Guard of Oklahoma4) If none of the above applies, the scholarship can be given to cadets in the ROTC program.
