City Center Englewood was redeveloped in the late 90’s in an effort to gentrify the surrounding area south of Denver. As a new urbanism environment, The Museum of Outdoor Arts’ extensive public sculpture collection blends into the landscape and architecture of the commercial and municipal buildings. As a transit oriented site, the RTD Light Rail and buses enhance the theme of transportation in many of the artists’ work. MOA’s indoor galleries, studios, and headquarter offices are located within the Englewood Civic Center.

The Museum of Outdoor Arts is a forerunner in the placement of site-specific sculpture in Colorado. Our art collection is located within various public locations throughout the Denver metro area. From commercial office parks to traditional sculpture gardens, the art is placed to interpret space as “a museum without walls.”
Founded in 1981 by John W. Madden, Jr. and daughter Cynthia Madden Leitner, the Museum of Outdoor Arts is a synthesis of fine art, architecture and landscape design integrated into the community and business environment. It is fully accessible to the public, exemplifying the belief that “art is a part of everyday life.”
In 2000, the Museum of Outdoor Arts opened its indoor galleries, studios and offices in the Englewood Civic Center. MOA holds ever-changing exhibits, integrated arts performances and special events designed to highlight the dynamic redevelopment of City Center Englewood and its commitment to the arts as an indispensable part of the community. In addition, Greenwood Plaza, sited on a high plain south of Denver and east of the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, continues to be a prime showcase for the Museum’s collection. (See Reverse)
When the Museum of Outdoor Arts opened to the public in 1981, there were 19 art acquisitions on display. Currently, the pieces in the collection number over 150.

The Museum of Outdoor Arts believes in making art a part of everyday life by integrating classical and contemporary artwork into public spaces. John Madden developed Greenwood Plaza to be an environment that incorporates landscape design, architecture, and art. The Museum of Outdoor Arts owns and operates Comfort Dental Amphitheatre (Fiddler’s Green), which enhances our efforts in promoting outdoor performing arts and events. Samson Park, which is adjacent to the Amphitheatre, is one of the Museum’s primary outdoor exhibition and installation spaces.
