MUS 103-Keyboard Fundamentals 2 Credit Exam Instructions

1. Exam must be completed prior to the beginning of the semester the course is offered. 2. Please have everything worked out before scheduling your exam. If you need assistance, please see a

member of the piano faculty or a piano graduate assistant. 3. You must score a “C” or better on each section of the exam to pass.

EXAM CONTENT

1. Technique:

a. Dexterity Drill 4.1: Keys of G Major and A Minor

b. Hand over Hand Arpeggios: C, G, D, A, E, F Major and Minor.

2. Rhythm: Rhythm Coordination Drill 1: Basic Rhythms – Prepare #1,3,5

3. Reading: Prepare all 10 examples. You will be expected to play with fluency, using correct notes,

rhythms, dynamics, and articulations. Good fingering practices should be observed.

4. Repertoire: Choose and prepare the required piece and one additional piece (total of 2):

Required Repertoire: Allegro in Bb Major by Alexander Reinagle

Repertoire: Choose 1 Village Dance by Heinrich Wohlfahrt Beyer Etude, Op. 101 No. 60 “Serious and Humorous” by Ferdinand Beyer Autumn Breeze by Chan Kiat Lim Etude, Op. 70 No. 16 by Hermann Berens You will be expected to play with fluency, using correct notes, rhythms, dynamics, and articulations.

Good fingering practices should be observed.

5. Harmonization: Rising Sun Blues

1) Play the melody with the right hand and "realize" the chord symbols by playing blocked or broken

triads with the left hand.

2) Play one of the two-handed accompaniments with a singer OR accompany yourself.

6. Accompanying: Je m’endors

Prepare the piano part. The credit exam proctor will play the voice part for you to accompany OR

accompany yourself.
