LIST OF CHARACTERS CHARACTER NAME AND

OCCUPATION CHARACTER DESCRIPTION COSTUME SUGGESTIONS

PROFESSOR ALBERTA NEWTON

Biology

Professor

REQUIRED female

The beautiful Alberta Newton is the penultimate absent minded professor. Inquire about science and she’ll blow you away with her intellect, inquire about anything else, well…she’s an average Jane.

A business suit or a lab jacket.

SAM CHAWPALOT

Butcher

REQUIRED Male

If you looked up narcissism in the dictionary, Sam Chawpalot’s picture would be plastered by the description. Sam is the friendly self-loving neighborhood butcher with a slight over-exaggeration problem.

Apron and butcher’s hat.

Plastic butcher knife as an optional

prop.

LONDON WILTON

Heiress

REQUIRED female

London Wilton is new to Anonville as she is visiting the town to determine where to build her next extravagant hotel. Everyone is growing tired of the media exposing London Wilton’s troubles…especially the townspeople of Anonville! Egotistical & spoiled are the two words that sum up this wild child!

Glamorous evening gown. Small,

stuffed dog as an optional prop.

DR. DOCTOR DIJON

Neurosurgeon REQUIRED Male

Is there a doctor in the house? Yes, of course! It’s Dr. Doctor Dijon! He’s the one to tell you to eat an apple a day…except it won’t keep him far away as he’s only 3 inches from your face when he’s speaking to you! This close-talking behavior is surprising since the good doc has an intense fear of germs!

Lab coat with a stethoscope as an

optional prop. Breath mints are

suggested.

MS. SHUGGA ANN

FLOWER

Pastry Chef REQUIRED female

Oh, the delicacies that this sweet baker can create! Ms. Shugga Ann Flower is the finest pastry chef in all of Anonville! When she bakes, the sugary aroma travels to the edges of town. The townspeople flock to her bakery to get a bite of her ‘tasties!’

Chef’s hat and chef’s jacket with rolling pin as an optional prop.

MAYOR PAUL A. TISSHON

Mayor

REQUIRED Male

There are two sides to Mayor Paul A. Tisshon…and only one of them you would ever care to be on! If you have something to offer Paul, he’s the nicest man you’ll ever meet. However, if you cross him, his mean spirits will rise to the occasion to greet you.

Business suit.

MISS RITA

BOOKADAY

Librarian REQUIRED female

Miss Rita Bookaday is not your typical librarian! She’s silly, young, and broke with an aura of mischief surrounding her. Rita is rather unpredictable… that is, unless she’s offering you a helping hand at the local library.

Conservative business casual

outfit. Hair in a bun with glasses and a couple of books as

optional props.

Page 3: MURDEROUS TABLE OF CONTENTSep.yimg.com/ty/cdn/yhst-43578580121885/anonvillesample.pdf · Hair in a bun with glasses and a ... On camera, he’s the perfect gentleman – ideal in

ALBY STITCHIN

Tailor

REQUIRED Male

Ouch! Well, that is what most of Alby Stitchin’s customers are saying nowadays, anyway! This clumsy chap bit off more than he could chew when he decided to be a tailor as he has a huge problem of turning his clients into unwilling pin cushions!

Fashionable or trendy outfit for the era chosen with a pin cushion and

measuring tape as props.

COUGAR FOREST

Golfer

Optional Male

Cougar Forest is a tiger on the golf course, but in person, he’s just a mere kitten. He’s shy and reserved but Cougar’s Spanish accent is more than enough to win over the ladies…that is, until he does one of his annoying yet infamous cougar impersonations.

Golfing outfit with golf gloves as optional props.

MISTER CRIMSON

Local Celebrity

Optional Male

Mister Crimson is the most handsome and charismatic man you will ever see on TV! On camera, he’s the perfect gentleman – ideal in every way – someone you’d love to rush home to meet mom & dad. But off camera, he is nothing but a lazy couch potato with the most outrageous and appalling manners you’ve ever seen. Ladies, this is one package you don’t want to open!

Red leisure suit or red button up and pants with a non-toxic marker for

autographs as an optional prop.

PRINCIPAL AMETHYST

High School

Principal Optional Female

Is it Principal Amethyst or Principal Loony? Well, the latter is what the kids not so lovingly nicknamed her at Anonville High school behind her back. Teens beware: rumor has it that not everyone that gets sent to Principal Amethyst’s office makes it back to class…ever again!

Conservative business suit.

CHIEF C. R. BADGES

Police Chief Optional Male

You would never guess that such a meager self-questioning man could climb his way into such a high ranking position with the police force! Chief C.R. Badges is a kind-hearted gentleman who swore to serve & protect, but sometimes he finds it difficult to do so with a self esteem approaching absolute zero!

Police uniform. Toy (fake) gun as a

prop.

WILLIAM ‘WILLY’

LYALLOT

Criminal Defense Attorney

Optional Male

‘Liar, liar, pants on fire’ was certainly made up about Mr. Willy Lyallot. If freedom is your desire, this is one obnoxious criminal defense attorney you want on your side of the courtroom, even if you are guilty of murder! Willy makes ambulance chasers look like peace corps volunteers!

Business suit with obnoxious tie. Fake business

cards as optional props.

MS. KARA TINN

Hairstylist

Optional Female

Don’t even bother buying a hairstyle magazine because if you sit in Ms. Kara Tinn’s styling chair, you’re going to get the one and only cut and style she knows! So what if her signature style is outdated by twenty years and all of her customers look identical. Who cares! This nerdy and flirty hair diva has her trademark hairdo down pat and it’s the best in town…of its kind, that is!

Trendy and fashionable outfit

for the era chosen. Hair in an

outrageous style. Comb and styling cape as optional

props.

TELE N. EWE

Investigative Field Reporter

Optional

Either gender

Tele N. Ewe is always on top of the latest story… sometimes before they even happen! She’s an ultra-ambitious investigative reporter for the television station CBC and she will stop at nothing to be the first to get the scoop. She’s rarely seen without a troupe of her co-workers from CBC News.

(Can have multiple players in this role)

Trendy business suit.

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST

Thank you for purchasing ‘Murder at Anonville Manor: A Dinner Party to Die for’ game from mymysteryparty.com! This mystery is a light-hearted and moderate sleuthing mystery that allows you and your guests to step into a different character while trying to solve the entertaining and slightly challenging mystery. The party can be a huge success as long as you and your guests relax and let the mystery unravel during each round. The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the game. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME ☺

You will need to gather & PREPARE the following items in advance of the game • The printed clues for each round (by printing this document, you will have these). • Envelopes for the round clues for each character / each round. It is easiest if the envelopes are in separate colors

for each round. As an alternative, you can also opt to ‘scroll’ the clues and secure with a ribbon (make sure to label them) or you can simply hand the clues to the guests at the beginning of each round. (For continuity, in the instructions, we will refer to the clue cards being slipped into envelopes.)

• OPTIONAL: the cut out squares for the ‘How Did I Die’ game (page 21) with tape affixed to the back of the squares.

• OPTIONAL: the ‘Mystery Scramble’ sheets for each team (page 31+; by printing this document, you will have these).

FULL LIST IN THE PURCHASED GAME ☺

The victim is disclosed through the victim’s clue card in Round Two. The murderer is disclosed through the murderer’s solution card in Round Three. If you do not want to know the solution, do not view the cards in either of these rounds. For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the mymysteryparty.com site and we will send you the clues in sealed envelopes –‘ready to go’ (this is an additional charge).

The rounds are designed as follows PRE-GAME STARTERS: these pre-game starters are to be delivered to each guest that has RSVPd about a week before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game starters are optional and do not alter the mystery, and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These clues are not vital to solving the mystery. They appear as invitations as if the players are the actual characters. These should not be used as the party invitations, however. We have free, printable invitations available on the MyMysteryParty.com site - just go to the item page and scroll to the bottom of the page to download them. The following is a suggestion on how to host your mystery, but it is only a suggestion, it can be played in any way that you prefer.

COCKTAIL HOUR / ROUND ONE: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. Serve cocktails and appetizers. Make sure the ‘Guest Instructions’ and the ‘List of Characters’ are available for your guests to read when they arrive. *If this game is for teens, omit the cocktails and call it the APPETIZER HOUR. DINNER HOUR / ROUND TWO: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner to your guests. DESSERT, COFFEE AND SOLUTIONS: Deliver these clues with coffee (hot chocolate for teens) and dessert.

*IMPORANT INFORMATION REGARDING CHARACTER ASSIGNMENTS: Assign your most definite RSVPs and outgoing guests to the required characters and the more tentative, shy/reserved guests for the optional characters. It’s suggested to invite more than the required number of players as guests can cancel at the last minute and leave you high & dry. You can play as many optional players as you wish and in this kit and in the expansion kit, they have the same materials and same participation level, but are not ‘mandatory’ for the storyline to play out and the mystery to be sleuthed. So, what happens if one of your required characters cancels on you at the last minute? First, take a deep breath…it’s not the end of the world.

1. If you have an extra optional player that is coming to the party - give them a call and tell them they’ll be switching characters. Hopefully this isn’t the day of the party because no doubt, this player has his/her costume ready. But these costumes are not too elaborate in this game, so it shouldn’t be a big disaster.

2. No optional characters? Don’t panic. You will have to give us a call if you want to keep it a surprise (1-800-714-3951 - M-F / 10-3 Central) or email us at [email protected] (this email is monitored throughout the weekends and holidays) so you know your murderer and victim are still intact. We can tell you what to do if a required character cancels and you don’t have an optional character replacement. It might be alright as it is and if this is the case, you’ll need to post this character’s clue on a wall for each round and just explain to the other guests what the deal is….you’re missing a required player but all of the information is available to them in his/her clue cards. (Post the designated round at the designated time - not all at once!)

3. If you don’t care about the surprise and / or have already looked at who the victim/murderer is…then just be sure they are both still playing - you might need to switch one required character over to play either the no-show victim or murderer. If you do this, do as described in #2 and post the missing character’s clue cards on the wall during each round.

HOW TO PLAY A MURDER MYSTERY GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

Professional actors are great for mysteries but do not worry because you do not have to be a good actor – or an actor at all – to play a murder mystery! The only quality that you need to possess is the ability to have a blast! The mystery party is separated into three rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues will provide everything that you will need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to other

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME ☺ From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. There are some characters that are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Feel free to embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information. Not everyone needs to or should have the spotlight!

OPTIONAL PRE GAME ROUND Host Instructions: Before the party, you can encourage your guests to view this mystery on the www.mymysteryparty.com website or use the party invitations provided by the www.mymysteryparty.com website. These items include the murder mystery description and describe their character and give costume suggestions. You can also include a full character list (located at the end of this document) for the guests so they can read about the other characters at the party). This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party - but this is not mandatory.

FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME ☺ PRE GAME STARTERS The following pre-game starters are to be mailed to the party guests ~1 week in advance of the party or put into sealed envelopes labeled with the appropriate character and round (pre-game) and immediately handed to the party guests as they arrive at the party.

OPTIONAL PRE GAME TASKS The following tasks are completely optional and exclusion of them does not alter the mystery in any way. However, it does lead to pre-game build up and excitement! Cut the task strips out and slip them into the pre-game starter envelopes (with the above pre-game starters) and send about 1 week prior to the party. Be sure to fill in your guests’ preferred contact

ROUND ONE CLUES – CUT OUT, STUFF INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE APPROPRIATE ROUND AND CHARACTER Handing the clue envelopes to the guests will start round one.

SAM CHAWPALOT– ROUND ONE

The anonymous host of this dinner party would like for you to engage in a FUN ICE-BREAKER - SOLVE THE FOLLOWING RIDDLE AND THEN MINGLE WITH THE OTHER GUESTS TO FIND YOUR MATCH! A match is two different riddle answers that go “hand in hand!’ Example: the words ‘bread’ and ‘stick’ are a match because they go together, but ‘bread’ and ‘bread’ are not a match – they are identical terms, however ‘bred’ and ‘bread’ would be a match because they are two words that are spoken identically, but spelled differently…. HAVE FUN!

Sometimes, a big part of me is open and sometimes it is closed. But either way, I’ll affect your nose. Some think I’m pretty and some could care less and when I die, I can make a big mess. What am I?

CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND During this round, mingle with the other guests to discuss the following with whomever you choose:

Tell Rita you are the most handsome man on the planet so she doesn’t need to look any further – you’re here for her.

Tell William Lyallot that you are serious about him getting you out of that speeding ticket you talked to him about. Tell him you’d do anything to wipe your record clean. (If William is not a guest, disregard this clue.)

Tell London Wilton that you do not appreciate her last protest in front of you butcher shop since the protesters left trash outside of your door.

PERSONAL INFORMATION (You can conceal these clues from the other guests) You are single and wouldn’t mind dating the cute librarian, Rita Bookaday. You despise vegans, especially ones that organize protests in front of butcher shops – like London Wilton. You really don’t want her to

come to Anonville and build another one of her ritzy superficial hotels. Don’t forget that you are very arrogant and tend to over –exaggerate things. Have fun with this!

During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share any clues that you collect with the other guests.

ROUND ONE RIDDLE ANSWER KEY

The answer matches are paired in the same text boxes.

under the sink, place it in any location that can be concealed within that bathroom. The victim will be instructed in their clue for this round to look for it if there is not a cabinet under the sink. If you have purchased crime scene tape - the victim can ‘decorate’ themselves with it and if you have a victim t-shirt - leave this with the victim items as well as they will put it on and then put the victim sign on over it. Pair your guests into teams of 2-3. Facilitate the ‘Mystery Scramble’ (page 31+) game while you serve dinner (optional). After about 10 minutes, take up the ‘Mystery Scramble’ Guess Sheets from your guests and score them using the ‘Mystery Scramble’ Answer Key (page 30) and put these aside for later. Pass out the envelopes for round two to the guests and encourage them over the next thirty minutes to mingle while implementing their 'pre-murder' reveal clues for round two. Do not forget to implement your own 'pre-murder' clues and mingle with your guests before you advance the round.

ROUND TWO CLUES: Cut out and slip these clues into sealed and labeled (i.e. round two, character name) envelopes and hand to your guests after the ‘Mystery Scramble Challenge’ to officially begin round two.

dr. DOCTOR DIJON – ROUND TWO.

PRE-MURDER: You watched Tele. N. Ewe’s news report a while back about London Wilton’s campaign against Anonville Manor.

She was telling wild stories about how the hotel was haunted and how she was going to build a new hotel so visitors of Anonville would have somewhere safe to stay.

London and Rita seem to have a lot of similar characteristics. You find this odd. POST-MURDER:

To find out where the victim was murdered, you will need to know that the Kitchen is on the west end of the Anonville Manor. Try asking other guests for more clues to narrow this down and figure it out.

You saw a candlestick in the library on your way in. That could be a potential murder weapon. Why don’t you see what the other guests think about possible murder weapons?

You were in the Foyer during the murder. PERSONAL INFORMATION: (This information can be concealed from the other guests.)

Your wife is a guest at this dinner party. You are about to switch careers. You are so tired of looking at acne problems and huge warts of the Anonville residents. You’re a

neurosurgeon but Anonville residents just don’t have enough neurological problems to keep you in business and you’re tired of looking at warts and pimples for everyone.

If you were to murder someone, you’d definitely strangle them.

THE VICTIM SIGN. Cut it out and place it under the sink during this round with the other evidence.

MENU SUGGESTIONS

MENU SUGGESTIONS & RECIPES IN THE PURCHASED

GAME ☺ The following list of characters can either be printed and sent with the invitations so the guests can see the other characters at the party or you can print a couple of copies and have it available as the guests arrive to the party so they can view the other character descriptions. Also, once the guests have all arrived, you can

read these and introduce each character to the group before you start the game.

PROFESSOR ALBERTA NEWTON FINAL SOLUTION ROUND THREE. READ FIRST!!!!

One by one in the exact order instructed on the final solution cards (starting with you) - each guest is to read their final solution round card to the group. Before you read your final solution, read the following music lyrics to the other guests

and ask them to give you the band and name of the song:

I'LL BUY YOU A DIAMOND RING MY FRIEND IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL ALRIGHT I'LL GET YOU ANYTHING MY FRIEND IF IT MAKES YOU FEEL ALRIGHT

'CAUSE I DON'T CARE TOO MUCH FOR MONEY, MONEY _______________________ (SONG TITLE).

Answer: The artist is ‘The Beatles’ and the song is ‘Can’t Buy Me Love.’ You are not the murderer! You are the first one to read your final solution of the mystery to the group. Read the

following to the group:

"I am not the murderer. I cannot deny that I thought London Wilton was a superficial toot knocker, but I did not murder her. Why don’t we see what the good Mayor has to say about his involvement in this crime?”

LIST OF CHARACTERS

CHARACTER NAME AND OCCUPATION CHARACTER DESCRIPTION

PROFESSOR ALBERTA NEWTON

Biology Professor

The beautiful Alberta Newton is the penultimate absent minded professor. Inquire about science and she’ll blow you away with her intellect, inquire about anything else, well…she’s an average Jane.

SAM CHAWPALOT

Butcher

If you looked up narcissism in the dictionary, Sam Chawpalot’s picture would be plastered by the description. Sam is the friendly self-loving neighborhood butcher with a slight over-exaggeration problem.

LONDON WILTON

Heiress

London Wilton is new to Anonville as she is visiting the town to determine where to build her next extravagant hotel. Everyone is growing tired of the media exposing London Wilton’s troubles…especially the townspeople of Anonville! Egotistical & spoiled are the two words that sum up this wild child!

DR. DOCTOR DIJON

Neurosurgeon

Is there a doctor in the house? Yes, of course! It’s Dr. Doctor Dijon! He’s the one to tell you to eat an apple a day…except it won’t keep him far away as he’s only 3 inches from your face when he’s speaking to you! This close-talking behavior is surprising since the good doc has an intense fear of germs!

MS. SHUGGA ANN FLOWER

Pastry Chef

Oh, the delicacies that this sweet baker can create! Ms. Shugga Ann Flower is the finest pastry chef in all of Anonville! When she bakes, the sugary aroma travels to the edges of town. The townspeople flock to her bakery to get a bite of her ‘tasties!’

MAYOR PAUL A. TISSHON

Mayor

There are two sides to Mayor Paul A. Tisshon…and only one of them you would ever care to be on! If you have something to offer Paul, he’s the nicest man you’ll ever meet. However, if you cross him, his mean spirits will rise to the occasion to greet you.

MISS RITA BOOKADAY

Librarian

Miss Rita Bookaday is not your typical librarian! She’s silly, young, and broke with an aura of mischief surrounding her. Rita is rather unpredictable… that is, unless she’s offering you a helping hand at the local library.

ALBY STITCHIN

Tailor

Ouch! Well, that is what most of Alby Stitchin’s customers are saying nowadays, anyway! This clumsy chap bit off more than he could chew when he decided to be a tailor as he has a huge problem of turning his clients into unwilling pin cushions!

COUGAR FOREST

Golfer

Cougar Forest is a tiger on the golf course, but in person, he’s just a mere kitten. He’s shy and reserved but Cougar’s Spanish accent is more than enough to win over the ladies…that is, until he does one of his annoying yet infamous cougar impersonations.

MISTER CRIMSON

Local Celebrity

Mister Crimson is the most handsome and charismatic man you will ever see on TV! On camera, he’s the perfect gentleman – ideal in every way – someone you’d love to rush home to meet mom & dad. But off camera, he is nothing but a lazy couch potato with the most outrageous and appalling manners you’ve ever seen. Ladies, this is one package you don’t want to open!

PRINCIPAL AMETHYST

High School Principal

Is it Principal Amethyst or Principal Loony? Well, the latter is what the kids not so lovingly nicknamed her at Anonville High school behind her back. Teens beware: rumor has it that not everyone that gets sent to Principal Amethyst’s office makes it back to class…ever again!

CHIEF C. R. BADGES

Police Chief

You would never guess that such a meager self-questioning man could climb his way into such a high ranking position with the police force! Chief C.R. Badges is a kind-hearted gentleman who swore to serve & protect, but sometimes he finds it difficult to do so with a self esteem approaching absolute zero!

WILLIAM ‘WILLY’ LYALLOT

Criminal Defense

Attorney

‘Liar, liar, pants on fire’ was certainly made up about Mr. Willy Lyallot. If freedom is your desire, this is one obnoxious criminal defense attorney you want on your side of the courtroom, even if you are guilty of murder! Willy makes ambulance chasers look like peace corps volunteers!

MS. KARA TINN

Hairstylist

Don’t even bother buying a hairstyle magazine because if you sit in Ms. Kara Tinn’s styling chair, you’re going to get the one and only cut and style she knows! So what if her signature style is outdated by twenty years and all of her customers look identical. Who cares! This nerdy and flirty hair diva has her trademark hairdo down pat and it’s the best in town…of its kind, that is!

TELE N. EWE

Investigative Field Reporter

Tele N. Ewe is always on top of the latest story… sometimes before they even happen! She’s an ultra-ambitious investigative reporter for the television station CBC and she will stop at nothing to be the first to get the scoop. She’s rarely seen without a troupe of her co-workers from CBC News.

CBC NEWS

Investigative Field Reporter

The reporters at CBC news are always on top of the latest story… sometimes before they even happen! They are all ultra-ambitious investigative reporters for the television station CBC and will stop at nothing to be the first to get the scoop.
