GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE HOST Get ready for an elegant night of murder and mayhem with your purchase of the ‘MURDER AT THE ABBY MANOR MASQUERADE BALL’ game from mymysteryparty.com! This party is an entertaining mystery where the players act the roles of intriguing personalities while sleuthing the mysterious story line. This is an excellent choice for any occasion! The party pack (this document) needs to be printed in advance of the party. Cut out the clues and slip them into envelopes labeled with the appropriate round and character for each round of the party. It is optimal to choose different colored envelopes for each round. During the party, your job as the host is to ensure that the envelopes are given to the guests at the appropriate times and most of all – that you and your guest are having a blast!! Depending on the mystery, there might be a few props you will need to collect in advance and plant at certain places and times during the party. Make sure to read the host instructions for each round prior to the party

to ensure that you have everything in place for the big day! Please note - the host instructions for each round do not disclose who the murderer or the victim is.

- FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

If you do not want to know the solution, do not view the final round of clues. For a complete surprise, you can elect the pre-printed ‘party ready’ party pack option from the mymysteryparty.com site and we will send you the clues in sealed envelopes –‘ready to go’ (this is an additional charge but is the way to go). The game is organized into three rounds. This is only a suggestion on how to play the mystery, you as the host can elect to do in any way that you wish. The game rounds are designed as follows: PRE-GAME STARTER: these pre-game starters are to be delivered to each guest before the party or give them to the guests as they arrive. All pre-game starters are optional and do not alter the mystery and are intended to enhance the pre-game build up for the event. These starters are not vital to solving the mystery. In this game, there are also pre-game tasks for the characters to perform. These pre-game tasks are optional and the omission of them does not alter the mystery in any way. You will need to fill in your guests’ contact information (email is typically the best method of contact) on the pre-game task sheets for each guest to be able to contact the characters listed on each of their task sheets (see below). COCKTAIL HOUR: Deliver these clues as your guests arrive. DINNER HOUR: Deliver these clues while you serve dinner to your guests. DESSERT, COFFEE AND THE BIG REVEAL: Deliver these clues with coffee and dessert. HELPFUL HINTS ON HOW TO PLAY A MURDER MYSTERY: GUEST INSTRUCTIONS

So you’ve been assigned a character and you’ve come to the party dressed in the most fabulous costume and have been told to play your role. So now what? The mystery is separated into 3 rounds. During the party, you will be handed an envelope that contains the clues necessary for your character for the round. The clues for all of the required characters provide everything that you need to solve the mystery. However, during the investigation segment of the game, you will need to ask the right questions and pay close attention to everyone’s clues to be able to get the whole picture of what has happened.

- FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

From this point forward, you are to remain in character until the mystery is solved. If you are playing a ‘green alien from Mars’, then that is who you are until the end! Undoubtedly, your host has cast you into a character that you are comfortable playing. There are some characters that are designed to be played more reserved than other characters that should be played more boisterous. Feel free to play your role however you feel comfortable. Embellish your character’s personality if you would like. However, if you are feeling more reserved tonight, you can opt to allow the other characters to approach you or you can simply listen in on others’ conversations to get your information.

OPTIONAL PRE-GAME ROUND DIRECTIONS FOR THE HOST: Before the party, encourage your guests to view this mystery on the www.mymysteryparty.com website or use the MY MYSTERY PARTY invitations as they have the character list included. This way, before the party, they can get familiar with the other characters that will be at the party.

- FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

Print these clues and send them to your guests via snail mail - USPS (suggested method). You can hand these to your guests as they arrive before you give the round one envelopes (last

resort method). There are also optional ‘pre-game tasks’ included in this game. These ‘pre-game tasks’ include instructions to contact other party guests with random clues to build pre-game excitement. The exclusion of these ‘pre-game tasks’ in no way

will affect the mystery. However, it will lead to extra pre-game enthusiasm! You can send the ‘pre-game tasks’ with the pre-game clues in any method you choose from the options above.

PRE GAME STARTERS: (The following starters can be emailed or need to be cut out and put into sealed envelopes and labeled with the appropriate character and round - and should be given along with the optional pre-game task sheets that follow.)

- EACH CHARACTER HAS A PREGAME CARD IN THE PURCHASED GAME

CHARACTER NAME IS HERE IN THE PURCHASED GAME, It is that time once again for the Abby Manor Historical Society to host The Abby Manor Masquerade Ball. OPTIONAL PRE-GAME TASKS: The following tasks are completely optional and exclusion of them does not alter the mystery in any way. However, it does lead to pre-game build up and excitement! Cut the task strips out and slip them into the pre-game clue envelopes (with the above pre-game starters) and send about 1 week prior to the party. Be sure to fill in your guests’ preferred contact information on the task slips so they will be able to contact each other. The usual method of contact is via email.

CHARACTER NAME IS HERE IN THE PURCHASED GAME

OPTIONAL - for some pre-party fun, you can contact (email, phone, etc.) the following guests in the week leading up to the party: Contact the guest playing Blondie Fawn and tell her that you heard she was looking for work and you need someone to play the role of a crazy homeless addict that’s arrested for disorderly conduct and possibly murder. Say that the show is a real reality show and the arrests and murder cases are not always staged unless there’s nothing going on at the station for a period of time. Say that you are desperate for some footage so you’re resorting to actors. (If Bryan Seafoam is not a guest, disregard this task.) (Contact info :________________________________________________________________) Contact the guest playing Yuna Verz and ask her how much it would be to go up in a rocket one day. Say that you are saving your money so you can pay your way up into the Solar System. (Contact info :________________________________________________________________) Please note: either contacting the guests above or deciding to skip these tasks will not alter the mystery or anyone's ability to solve the mystery in anyway. However, contacting other guests will lead to excitement about the party and will encourage other guests to read about the other characters and be prepared for some completely mysterious fun!

COCKTAIL HOUR - IT’S PARTY TIME!

DIRECTIONS FOR THE HOST: Round one – cocktail hour begins as the guests arrive. Create a Masquerade Ball ambiance with a Phantom of the Opera soundtrack CD playing softly, ballroom decor, and the Phantom of the Opera movie playing in the background without the audio if there is a television in the party room. Or make a DVD of pictures of you and your guest to play like a slideshow during your party.

- FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

COCKTAIL HOUR CLUES – CUT OUT, SLIP INTO ENVELOPES AND LABEL WITH THE APPROPRIATE ROUND AND CHARACTER

Character name is here in the purchased game – ROUND ONE *You are highly inquisitive…so ask questions just to ask questions! You are also paranoid…so feel free to let that quality show to the other guests!

USE THE FOLLOWING TRIVIA QUESTIONS AS AN ICE BREAKER Question: Who is Detective John McLane? Answer: Bruce Willis’s character from the Die Hard movies Question: If a woman wears a U.S. size 9 shoe, what is that equivalent to in men’s sizes? Answer: a size 7

CLUES TO REVEAL DURING THIS ROUND During this round, mingle with other guests to discuss the following information with whomever you choose: • Talk to a few people about how you think that the police department knows more than they will let on. Say that as a

bioterrorism researcher, you should be the first to know of any incidents that happen! Say that you don’t trust Sherlock Tracy or any of the police department for that matter.

• Talk about how your latest invention can detect bioterroristic agents within a ½ of a mile. Say that they are so sensitive; they detect any odor molecules traveling in the air and reference them with a database of 1.7 million known odorants.

• Confide in a few people about your design of a pulse zapper that will be built in all escalators at every airport entrance. While passengers ride the escalator, there are sensors to detect any type of fuel source or biological agent in your shoes or clothing. If it detects a positive source, it will zap a high voltage stream directly into the violator’s body that will stop the heart immediately! The terrorists won’t even make it to the security gate and it will appear as a natural cause of death heart attack! Say that you’re having trouble getting this approved, however, but maybe one day!

PERSONAL CLUES TO CONCEAL • You are extremely paranoid. You think that Sherlock Tracy is working for the terrorists and not telling you vital information. Even if

he is only a homicide detective and not the Chief of Police or anything….you still believe he knows something and isn’t giving up the information!

During the mystery, your character must be honest and not make up any potentially mystery-altering clues in addition to those provided to you. You do not, however, have to share the clues that you collect with other guests.

ROUND TWO – DINNER HOUR DIRECTIONS FOR THE HOST: In the nearest bathroom, place the following items under the sink - the victim sign (page 42), scotch tape, host supplied white non-toxic face makeup (optional but funny and suggested), the (cut out) murder weapon (page 43), and if you have purchased the victim t-shirt and / or crime scene tape. If there is not a cabinet under the sink, place these items in any location that can be concealed within that bathroom. The murder victim will be instructed in their clue card for round two to look for it if there is not a cabinet under the sink.

The murder victim will be instructed in their round two clue card to put the white face makeup on their face, put on the victim sign by adhering it to their chest with Scotch tape, to adhere the murder weapon to their forehead with scotch tape, and if the optional victim t-shirt is available- to put that on (with the victim sign on top) and if the crime scene tape is there - to decorate themselves with it.

It is hilarious when a fully decorated victim walks back into the party room!

- FULL INSTRUCTIONS IN THE PURCHASED GAME

Put the fingerprint analysis results (page 60) in a sealed envelope. Reveal it towards the end of this round by explaining that you called in a favor from Sherlock Tracy’s friend and co-worker Dr. Watson. Say that he was glad to do it and that he won’t notify the police of his findings so that the group can solve the crime before the police are called! At the conclusion of this round, give the guests a time period in which to fill in their final guesses as to whodunit on the 'Murder Mystery Investigation Sheet' (page 32+). Collect the guess sheets from your guests at the conclusion of this round. Prop list: These are props needed for this round. Collect these items in advance and have them ready!

• The victim sign for the victim’s clue in Round Two (page 42). • Scotch Tape (to adhere the victim sign and the murder weapon to the victim) • Murder Weapon sheet (cut out) (page 43). • The Mystery Investigation Sheets (page 44+).

For the Victim- round two. The murder weapon cut out is included in the

purchased game

Character name is here in the purchased game – ROUND TWO The murder will occur during this round PRE-MURDER CLUES:

• Confront Sherlock Tracy about what he said about your IQ. Say that he is lying and anything his Investigators think that they’ve discovered about you is a total lie. Say that if he dares to say anything to your supervisors at your agency you’ll see to it that he doesn’t live another day. This will solve two of your headaches as you are tired of fighting over the inheritance anyway!

• Tell Jamie Bond (and her partners) that you really don’t think it would be advisable for her or anyone from her agency to board the rocket and travel to space. Say that it takes more than a few months of training and she’d be risking her life. (If Jamie and her partners are not guests, disregard this clue.)

• Ask Bameril if he’s ever given anyone a food borne illness with his food.

POST -MURDER CLUE: You know the one with the biggest motive is most likely the murderer. You do remember touching the murder weapon earlier as you rearranged everything on the counters. You couldn’t help it,

the counters looked cluttered! You haven’t left the party room since you arrived at the party. You know that Dolly Dee discovered the victim, but nobody can remember what time she actually left the ballroom. Cheque´ Penne left the room about 19 minutes ago and he said he was headed for the restroom.

There’s no paper trail of any of this. Actually, the missing funds will all lead to my supervisor at the bank. I’m not a meticulous calculator for nothing!
