Limerick Junior FootballWell done to Killian Ryan who was part of the Limerick Football victory over Clare last weekend he cae on at centre forward and was central to the victory scoring 2 points. Well done Killian and your team mates.

Senior Ladies Football:Last Saturday evening Mungret took on Murroe/Boher in the Final of the Senior League County Final in South Liberties. This was an eagerly anticipated tie between the 2013 senior county champions against the 2014 Junior All Ireland club Champions. With the pitch in perfect conditions and the weather wet and windy it was Murroe/Boher that got out of the blocks forst with 1-01 scored before a reply from Mungret from Marie Curtin's at a difficult angle that found Niamh O'Keeffe 20 yards in front of the Murrow/Boher goals. While being heavily marked O'Keeffe found Catherine Murphy at the edge of the box and Ca dived in spectacular fashion and fisted the ball in the back of the net and saw Mungret get back into the game. M/B kicked 2 more points to pull ahead but it was Claire Coughlan who soloed 40 yards and buried the ball in the back of the net in an incredible individual effort to level the game at the stroke of half time. This was a very physical encounter with neither side giving an inch throughout the game. The second half started better for M/B with 4 points being converted from play and the response was points from Fiona Magan and Marie Curtin. The backs had a tough job defending with a strong wind in their face but Karen Gibbs, Susan Fitzgerald, Olivia and Martina Giltenane were giving it all they had to keep Mungret in the game. M/B had pulled ahead by 3 points and looked to be in control of the game but the girls from Mungret's 'never say die' attitude was evident when a 50/50 ball between niamh O'Keeffe and the M/B back saw Niamh flick the ball to the veteran Catherine Murphy who duly stick the ball in the back of the net against the run of play. With seconds left on the clock and Mungret a point behind a free was awarded to Mungret 25 yards in front of the goal. The task was left to Marie Curtin and she cooly slotted a point over in the last kick of the game to see the sides draw level at full time. Final Score Mungret 3-03 Murroe/Boher 1-09. The replay may be in a few weeks but we will let people know as the replay promises to be another epic battle.

U14 Hurling

The U14 division 3 team got their 2015 championship underway at home against Templeglantine last Wednesday 27th May. Most of our players are underage again next year, so while they are getting great experience, they are also yielding in physical size against many opponents, as waas the case here. We were floundering from the off, and trailed at half time. However the value of playing a competition like this was shown in the second half, where we put a number of attacks togethere and managed to raise the white flag from a pointed free. Billy Molyneaux from the U12 squad had come on at half time and made a big impace at full back. Fianl score here was 6-07 to 0-01 the team was as follows Conor Murtagh, David Hassett, Ben O'Sullivan, Ewan O'Dea, Tom Morrisson, Eamonn Flahivve, Conor O'Halloran, Ciaran Kenny, Conor Galvin, Cathal Joy, Barry Duff, Keith McKeogh, Harry Page, Darragh Ryan, Ben O'Curry, Billy Molyneaux

A t the same time the division 1 tean were facing the Féile semi final battle of Ballybrown in Ballybrown. This match showed to the supporters how this team have come so far as they did not let Ballybrown rattle them and came out winners 2-07 to 0-05.

U14 Football

Our 2002 squad, all of whom are underage again next year, crossed the county boundry into Clare last Tuesday 26th for a challange match against Parteen. This was a tremenously competitive encounter and we put up a great show despite missing a host of regulars. In fact we had no subs at all on the night so everyone had to go full tilt for the 40 minites. We got a great early lift from a David Barry goal, but we were pegged back to level terms by half time. A Conor Galvin point and a great Tom Morrisson goal seemed to restore us to the driving seat but we were caught on the hop by 2 late goals to go under 3-00 to 2-02. Still, this was a great performance and put us in good fettle for championship action which started 1st June away to Athea.

Both sides began well and a number of attacks from both sides were repulsed before Athea burst through from midfield to score the opening goal. We didn't allow this to upset us and with Odhran O'Dwyer and Dermot Moloney storming into the match we began to settle. We still were under a lot of pressure at teh back, with Harry Page being caled on a number of times in goals to tidy up some dangerous situations. Points from Darragh O'Hagan and Liam Lynch edged us back into it, the full back line of Ewan O'Dea, Darragh Shelly and David Hassett really started taking a grip in defence. Towards the end of the half Conor O'Halloran and Brian O'Meara linked with Ciaran Kenny to put Dylan Scanlon in possession close to goal, but the angle appeared too tight to cause danger. Dylan somehow managed to turn an dbury the ball in the net for the score that turned the match in our favour, leaving us 1-03 to 1-01 ahead at half time.

The introduction of Conor O'Malley in midfield for the second half made a hugh difference, with our forwards getting more and more chances before Cathal Joy skewered the opposition defences with a peach of a pass to Conor Galvin, who duly finished to the net. Jack Lloyd was next to get in on the act with a further goal, while at the other end Keith McKeogh and Tom Morrisson made sure that Athea made little further progress on the scoreboard. David Barry got himself in a nice move that gace Cathal Joy our 4th and last goal. We ran out convincing winners on a score 4-04 to 1-02. The team on the night Harry Page, David Hassett, Ewan O'Dea, Darragh Shelly, Conor O'Halloran, Dermot Moloney, Brian O'Meara, Odhran O'Dwyer, Dylan Scanlon, Conor Galvin, Ciaran Kenny, Liam Lynch, Cathal Joy, Darragh O'Hagan, Tom Morrisson, Conor O'Malley, David Barry , Keith McKeogh, Jack Lloyd

U12 CamogieOur U12 camogie team took to the field for round 4 of the U12 league in what was to prove by far our most competitive and intense match to date. We were under pressure from the throw in, but a rock-solid performance from Ciara Brennan, Leah Nolan and Derbhala Smith in the full back line kept our opponents at bay, with Ciara O'Keeffe also getting in some fine clearances. At the other end Lucy Connolly was doing some great work in her first competitive game for Mungret, with Ella Murname featuring strongly as well. Caoimhe Nestor then put Zoe Page through and her sweetly struck shot went narrowly wide. Patrickswell came back again but Tara Nealon in goals proved equal to everything that was thrown at her. Trailing 0-01 to 0-00 at half time, an Aela Gleeson clearance was collected by Bronagh Byrne and handed onto Aisling McGuinness, who burst through for a superb goal that shot us into the lead. With Aoife Ryan and Grace O'Keefe really coming into the game, things were looking good, however Patrickswell now began to dominate in the middle and our goalmouth started to come under intense pressure. Jenny Ryan, who had taken over the goalkeeping duties, put in some great saves, but the pressure was unrelenting. Another Patrickswell attack saw tham camped on our line with the ball squirting one inch forward and one inch back for a good 30 seconds before a Patrickswell player finally got the ball into her hand. As she prepared to pull the trigger she stopped as though she had just smelt something burning and Diana Nedelcu somehow scrambled the ball to safety. We couldn't hold out however and the next Patrickswell attack was swept to our net to leave us trailing 1-02 to 1-00. Still, this was a match that the girls contested right up to the final whistle and they deserve great credit for a brave, committed performance. Special mention is due to tara Nealon who recovered on 4 occasions from injury to resume battle. Team; Tara Nealon, Ciara Brennan, Leah Nolan, Aela Gleeson, Ciara O'Keeffe, Jennifer Ryan, Diana Nedelcu, Derbhala Smith, Bronagh Byrne, Aisling McGuinness, Caoimhe Nestor, Aoife Ryan, Grace O'Keefe, Zoe Page, Lucy Connolly, Ella Murname
