Multiply your investment in Tidewell with financial giftAs a Tidewell volunteer, you’re a philanthropist! You give your time, talents and treasures to better our community and bring care, comfort and peace to the patients and families Tidewell serves and to our community at large.

Tidewell depends on the support of the community to ensure additional programs that benefit the community can continue to grow and serve our patients and their families. This includes $2 million in charity care for patients who are financially unable to pay for services, more than $1 million in grief support, both for hospice families and the community at large, including Blue Butterfly, and

more than $400,000 in Complementary Services like art, massage and pet therapy, many in which you as volunteers play a vital part!

During our 40th anniversary, you have the opportunity to make a financial investment in Tidewell.

By giving a gift to Tidewell this year, you help provide the services that allow us to go above and beyond. These are services we often couldn’t offer without volunteers like you! With philanthropic gifts, more families can experience the care and dignity that hospice care provides, more people can experience hope and healing with grief support services, and more veterans can be honored during their time in our care. Together, we are all community philanthropists!

You can also give by making a gift securely online at www.tidewell.org or mailing your gift to 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238.

Locations

Caring Touch classes availableThe goal of Caring Touch is to nurture and calm the patient with slow touch, extremely light holds and circular strokes using Tranquility Lotion. Caring Touch can be done by volunteers who have been trained by a certified instructor. Classes are ongoing in various locations; please contact Shirley Perdisatt at 941-552-5914 or [email protected] if you’re interested.

Our volunteers provide hundreds of hours of service at our eight hospice houses throughout the Tidewell service area. Our hospice houses vary slightly in size, patient capacity and volunteer roles. Some houses have only one volunteer per shift while some larger houses have multiple volunteers on each shift. Here are a few safety reminders for hospice house volunteers:

• It is important that you wear your name badge at all times while volunteering. The badge should be visible in an easily seen location at or above the waist. The identification badge identifies you as a volunteer of Tidewell to all co-workers, volunteers and visitors. It also serves as an integral part of Tidewell’s security plan, allowing colleagues and volunteers to access areas that are not available to the public. Your identification badge should never be given out to anyone else. In the event that your badge is lost, please notify your volunteer coordinator.

• In the event of imminent danger, heated confrontation or a general feeling of being unsafe, remove yourself from the situation and notify the hospice house staff or authorities as appropriate, as well as your coordinator when it is safe to do so. Always report unsafe or potentially unsafe conditions, accidents and injuries to your coordinator.

• Colleagues and volunteers are personally responsible for signing in and out of Tidewell Hospice buildings. In the event of an emergency, sign-in sheets will be used to ascertain who is in the building.

• Volunteers assigned to hospice house doors should be informed by nursing colleagues of any known threats or potential conflicts with anticipated visitors and how to handle it.

We appreciate your support!Thank you, volunteers, for being the engine that powers Treasures Thrift Shop Benefiting Tidewell

Hospice. We invite all volunteers to stop by Treasures at 523 U.S. 41 Bypass, Venice, and discover

Tami Caruso promoted to South Manager of Volunteer Services

We would like congratulate Tami Caruso on her promotion to South Manager of Volunteer Services covering Venice, Englewood, Port Charlotte and Arcadia. Tami joined the Tidewell team in August 2019 as the Volunteer Coordinator at Southgate. Since that time, she quickly acclimated to her role at Tidewell and became a valued member of team.

Tami has thoroughly enjoyed being a part of Volunteer Services Department and is excited for this opportunity. “I am proud to be a part of the Tidewell team. Tidewell offers wonderful services for our patients, staff and the community. As the company continues to grow, they like to help their employees grow as well. I look forward expanding my role with the volunteer services department.
