the earth, Jesus gaveHis disciples one final

command andascended into heaven.

Matthew 28. Try to placeyourself in the disciples

shoes as they witnessedthese things and heard

The Great Commission uses

three phrases to describe

what disciple making

entails: go, baptize people,and teach them to obey

everything Jesuscommanded.

people, encouraging them

to follow Jesus (this is what

baptism is all about), andthen teaching them to obey

Jesuss commands (whichwe find in the Bible).

Baptism was an

unmistakable act

that marked aperson as a

follower of JesusChrist.

When first-century Christians took

this step of identifying themselveswith the death and resurrection of

Jesus, they were publicly declaring

their allegiance to Christ. Thisimmediately marked them for

the world felt toward Jesus wouldnow be directed at them.

centered on Jesus andHis mission.

everyones job.
