Strategic Transportation Plan Multimodal Study and What is the Westshore Multimodal Study and Strategic Transportation Plan? The Westshore Multimodal Study and Strategic Transportation Plan is a collaborative planning effort to determine a feasible location for a Multimodal Center and Transit Oriented Development (TOD) in the Westshore business district. The purpose of this study is to develop a sketch plan and identify potential development opportunities as well as other transportation improvements that may be necessary. What is a Multimodal Center? There are numerous transportation plans in the Westshore area. A Multimodal Center is a facility that will connect several types or modes of transportation. A Multimodal Center will not only provide transportation choices and new development opportunities in Westhsore, but it will also greatly enhance the regional transportation network. What transportation choices or mode maybe available? • Bus Rapid Transit • Local/Express Bus • Local Circulator/Shuttle Service • Taxi/Limo • Bicycle/Pedestrian • Light Rail Transit • Commuter Rail What are the Guiding Principles of the study? The Guiding Principles are the fundamental values on which the study is founded. They include: • TOD and Redevelopment Potential – Maximize opportunities for TOD and/or redevelopment in the Westshore area. • Connectivity – Maximize mobility and accessibility between modes. • Cost Effectiveness – Assure a worthwhile public investment. • Safety and Security – Minimize risk to passengers making intermodal connections; minimize the risk of the loss of, or damage to, intermodal facilities. • Environmental Stewardship/Community Preservation – Ensure responsible environmental stewardship and community preservation. • Collaborative partnerships – Promote collaborative partnerships. Constructability/Flexibility – Ensure site selection remains viable even if a planned mode is not constructed. Location/Geography – Encourage site placement in a sensible location within the Westshore core focus area. What’s next? • Community Outreach – Underway Recommend Site(s) – August 2011 Develop Site Preliminary Concepts – September - December 2011 Future Phases – Unfunded How can I find out more?
