which can be used to configure RLM or to switch the licensecontrol to the USB dongle.
The RLM server is installed by default but can be de-selected whenthe custom installation option is selected during the installation. The Multiflash license manager is always installed with Multiflash.More information on how to run and use the program is describedin the section RLM license system installation and managementon page 17.
Installing the USB protection device driversIf you were issued a Multiflash RLM license file you do not need toinstall the drivers for the USB dongle.
Multiflash requires a valid license to be available when it runs. Thelicense is provided by software that interfaces with a hardware key.The key must be present in a USB port or parallel port of your PCor a PC on your network (for network licenses) when the programis running. Simply insert the key into the port, making sure that asecure connection is made. On the parallel port key the direction ofconnection to the computer is shown by the arrows on the key.You can still use a printer or other device that is usually connectedto a parallel port by plugging it into the back of the key.
The server and driver for the hardware key are required to enablethe security device to function. The port driver and server softwareand installation instructions (README.TXT) are supplied on theCD-ROM in the \Sentinel\Installer directory. To install the portdriver and license server run SentinelProtectionInstaller7.6.3.exeand follow the instructions. More information about the serverand driver installation is provided in the section Sentinel system
driver and server installation for dongles on page 26.
Setting the PATHThis operation is done automatically by the Multiflash installer. These instructions are given here for reference in case you need toset them up again.
The directory where the Multiflash DLL file MFL4032.dll is installedmust be accessible to all programs that use the dll. This includesthe Multiflash GUI interactive program and, optionally, Excel,MATLAB and the CAPE-OPEN interface. By default the dll is
automatically loaded by the interfaces except Matlab. For theMatlab interface to work correctly, the installation directory has tobe added to the PATH environment variable.
To set the path for Windows use Control Panel and click onSystem. Select the Advanced tab and the Environment button. Inthe User variables section click on PATH and then Edit to add toexisting settings or click on the New button to create a new userPATH variable. Set the PATH user variable with the Multiflashinstallation directory, typically C:\Program Files\Infochem\MF40.

When Multiflash runs it searches for the MFCONFIG.DAT file in thesame directory specified in the Problem Files entry on theTools/preferences dialog as shown above.
The Multiflash log fileAll outputs from Multiflash that are displayed in the main outputwindow are also written to a file called MFLASH.LOG. The directorywhere this log file is written is displayed when Multiflash isstarted. The log file is written to the same directory as used for theMFCONFIG.DAT file (see above). It is important that this directoryactually exists otherwise the log file cannot be opened. You mustalso ensure that you have write permission for the directory. Thisis not usually a problem on a stand-alone PC but may be an issueon networked computers.
A history of log files is kept by rotating the log files. Multiflashalways writes to mflash.log and the history log files names are
from mflash_1.log to mflash_10.log, the latter the older log file. Ahistory of 10 log files is kept.
Running MultiflashAfter following the steps described above you should check thatMultiflash runs correctly. To start Multiflash double-click on theMultiflash 4.0 shortcut on your desktop or click on the Startbutton, select Multiflash 4.0 in the Programs Menu and click on theMultiflash 4.0 for Windows item.
The setup program creates a shortcut to Multiflash 4.0 on the
desktop. If the shortcut gets removed you can recreate it asfollows:
1. Start Windows Explorer.
2. Locate the program file MFW4032.exe in the directory whereyou installed Multiflash.
3. Select MFW4032.exe and from the File menu choose CreateShortcut.
Drag the shortcut item from the Explorer window onto theDesktop and rename it if required.

Help System
The Multiflash Help system uses Microsofts HTML Help whichrequires Internet Explorer to display the help information. If theMultiflash help files are not installed on a local drive of yourcomputer (eg. if they are installed on a network drive) you may notbe able to display any of the help topics. This is because Microsofthas restricted the functionality of HTML Help in recent securityupdates. It is possible to work around this restriction but itinvolves changes to the Windows Server configuration. Installation Guide Multiflash for Windows New Features and Changes in Version 4.0 13
New Features and Changes inVersion 4.0
IntroductionAs usual the new version includes the results of generalmaintenance and improvements in numerical methods over thepast year. Specific features are described below.
ModelsDescriptions and references detailing the models are provided inthe User Guide for Models and Physical Properties.
Super TRAPP Viscosity Model
The Super TRAPP viscosity model is an extended correspondingstates model that uses propane as a reference fluid. This modelgenerally offers improved predictions compared to the previouslyavailable models.
Activity Models: Poynting Correction
The way that the Poynting correction is evaluated for activitymodels at supercritical temperatures has been change to avoid
unphysical values of heat capacities.
CSMA model
Four new components have been added to the CSMA model:RR227EA, 1-butene, cis-2-butene and trans-2-butene.
The mixing rules for the model have been extended. There is thechoice of using an enhanced one-fluid mixing rule or the GERGmixing model.
GERG-2004 model
The GERG-2004 model for natural gas and other mixtures has beenadded. The model is described in the GERG Technical Monograph

15-2007 by O. Kunz et al.. The natural gas components consideredin the GERG model are: methane N2, CO2, ethane, propane, n-butane, iso-butane, n-pentane, iso-pentane, n-hexane, n-heptane, n-octane, H2, O2, CO, water, Helium and Argon. The model has beenextended to work with other components and petroleum fractions.
PC-SAFT model
The model now includes the results of recent theoreticaldevelopments to describe electrostatic interactions. Newcontributions account for dipolar and quadrupolar interactions.
New BIPs
The binary interaction parameters for H2S, CO2, methane, ethane, propane and water have been revised to improve the VLEpredictions for the cubic equations of state, CSMA, LKP and SAFTmodels. For the CPA model, the CO2-water and H2S-waterassociation parameters were also improved.
Petroleum Fluid Characterisation and Matching
Delumping Characterised Fluids
The delumping method expands the description of a fluid in whichpetroleum fraction pseudo-components are present. Each pseudo-component is delumped into constituent single carbon numberfractions. The delumped fluid can be loaded into the Multiflash
PVT Analysis tool allowing it to be re-characterized to give analternative set of pseudo-components. This is particularly usefulwhen fluids from other software packages are imported toMultiflash and the user may wish to re-characterize the fluid withMultiflash.
Viscosity
The correlation for the liquid viscosity of petroleum fractions hasbeen improved for heavy components with a boiling point above570 K.
Databanks
DIPPR
The latest version of DIPPR available is 2010. There are now 2013components in the databank. Information on new and revisedcomponents is available on request.
Infodata
The number of components in Infodata has increased to 248.Those added for Multiflash 4.0 are: R227EA; Sulphur-2.

The following property values have been revised.
Sulphur-8: all properties.
TEG: liquid density.
Windows GUI
Software framework
The GUI has been upgraded to use the Microsoft .Net framework. The design is substantially the same as in previous versions butsome details of appearance and behaviour will be different.
Model selection form
The default viscosity model for use with equations of state hasbeen changed from Pedersen to SuperTRAPP.
A new tab with the title CSMA has been added to the modelselection form. This tab groups together all the model varaintsbased on the multi-reference fluid corresponding states modelincluding the new GERG-2004 model.
A user-defined BIP databank may be included as part of the modeldefinition.
Delumping Characterised Fluids
The delumping facility can be accessed from the Tools menu or the
toolbar button.
Phase Envelope
The phase envelope plot displays the coordinates corresponding tothe position of the mouse cursor. You can zoom-in on a region bydragging with the left mouse button.

IntroductionFrom Multiflash 3.9.13 onwards, the software licensing system thatuses license files becomes the standard license control system inMultiflash. The software licensing system developed by RepriseSoftware is called RLM (Reprise License Manager).
The advantages of the software licensing system are:
No need to wait for the hardware key to arrive
Easier to upgrade if new features are requested
Easy manageable using the Multiflash license manager
To run Multiflash the RLM server has to be installed in the machinewhere Multiflash will be running, or it can be installed on amachine over any network computer that will act as a licenseserver.
More information is available in the RLM End user manual:http://www.reprisesoftware.com/RLM_Enduser.html
Installing the RLM license serverWhen installing Multiflash, by default the license server is also
installed at the end of the installation. The Multiflash licensemanager is always installed as part of the license server.
To de-select the installation the RLM server a custom Setup asshown below should be selected during the installation. Pleasenote that Multiflash needs to access a license server on either alocal machine or a machine over a network.

Using a centralized license serverIf a centralised license server over a network is used to manage allthe licenses, it can be easily achieved with RLM. For Multiflash, this kind of license is referred to as a Multiflash network license.
On the servermachine, launch the Multiflash installation as usualbut use the Custom Setup option and select both License Serverand the Multiflash License Manager only. Make sure that ports5054, 5053and 5500are available and open on the servermachine.
On the clientmachine that is used to run Multiflash, installMultiflash as usual. During the installation, use Custom Setupoption to de-select the License server option as the license serveris already installed on a centralized server over a network. Afterinstallation of Multiflash, an environmental variable must be set sothat the Multiflash RLM license server knows where to obtain theMultiflash license.
To set the environmental variable on the client computer withMultiflash, launch the Multiflash License Manager from the startmenu and select the License Manager as follows on the clientcomputer.
After the Multiflash License Manager is opened, select the Tools->set license hostoption from the menu options. The following formwill be activated.
It shows that the current server is localhost (local computer) anduses the default ports. To change the license server, type theremote server name or IP address in the text box for License Serverand the available port numbers for the License port and the RLMserver port. Then click Set Variable button to apply the change. The example shown on the form, the remote server np is going tobe set as the new license server.
If the license server is not available because it is off-line or the
ports specified are not open, the license information will be not

Managing the RLM windows serviceThe Reprise license manager is recommended to be installed as awindows service. In this way the RLM license server starts runningautomatically with Microsoft Windows.
The Windows service is automatically installed with Multiflash ifthe License server option is selected. In order to check thestatus of the windows service, click Tools->Manage WindowsService in the Multiflash License Manager window.
In this case it says that the service is running. The operations youcan perform are:
Stop and Start the service: useful to stop and start thelicense server, particularly when Multiflash was re-installed.
Install/remove: can be used to remove the service if the
RLM license server is no longer needed.Note that administrator rights are needed in order to manage thewindows service in Windows XP. In the case of Windows Vista and7, the Multiflash License manager has to be run as administrator.
Switch between USB dongle and RLMIf you still use an USB/parallel dongle as the means of licensecontrol with Multiflash, the Multiflash license manager may beused to stop the Multiflash RLM license server so that the time forlaunching Multiflash is not affected by the search of the RLMlicense server. By default, when installing Multiflash, theMultiflash RLM license server is installed and enabled.
To change the license control to the USB dongle, launch theMultiflash License manager and click the Use USB Dongle option. You will be asked for the confirmation by clicking the Yes orNo button.
If the Yes button is clicked, no information for the RLM Productswill be displayed and the RLM license server is not allowed.

The Sentinel SuperPro Server must be always selected in the
installation because the Server has to be run when Multiflash isrunning. After the installation, you can run the Sentinel LicenseMonitor using Web browser as follows.
In the Address Bar of the Web browser, type the name or IPaddress of the system (where the hardware key is attached andprotection server is running) in the following format:
http://IP address (or system name): HTTP port number (6002).
For example,
http://198.168.100.254:6002
Press the Enter key. The Sentinel License Monitor Web page is
displayed.

Network license server locationThe client environment variable NSP_HOST tells Multiflash whichserver to look for when it needs to access a Sentinel SuperPro key.The supported values for this variable are:
RNBO_SPN_LOCALwhich means that Multiflash onlylooks for the key on the local machine not on thenetwork.
Server host name or IP addresstells Multiflash to actas a network application. First it will look for a keylocally and then on the selected server.
If the NSP_HOST variable is not set Multiflash will look for a key onthe local PC and then send a broadcast message to the network tolook for a server and a key. Once all the licenses have been usedup, the following message will be displayed.
However, when the number of licences used is over the hardwarelimit of the key, the following message is displayed. This is afeature of the SentinelSuperPro software.
To avoid this confusing error message with a network licence key,it is recommended that the NSP_HOST should be either set to theServer host nameor to the IP addressof the computer with a key
attached to it.
Timeout of licensesThe Sentinel SuperPro server allocates a license when you startMultiflash. A license that is not used is automatically released bythe server after a timeout period. The purpose of the timeoutperiod is to ensure that licenses held by an application that hasterminated abnormally are not tied up indefinitely. The defaulttimeout period is 3600 seconds but this can be adjusted by settingthe NSP_TIMEOUT environment variable. It can be set to any value(in seconds) between 60 seconds and 30 days. For example to set a
timeout period of 20 mins set NSP_TIMEOUT to 1200. To specify

an infinite timeout period set NSP_TIMEOUT to INFINITE (note thatthe string must be upper-case).
When using the Multiflash GUI or Excel interface the license isactivated when calculations are carried out. However, in order toensure that the licensing system does not impose too muchoverhead the license is not activated on everycalculation. If alicense is timed out Multiflash will request a new license. Therequest may fail if another user or application has obtained thelicense in the meanwhile.
Resetting the serverTo reset the SuperPro server, ie. to release any licenses that arecurrently allocated, the server must be stopped and restarted. Thismust be done on the computer that has the key attached. To stopand restart the server you must have Administrator rights.
Resetting the server can be done using the ControlPanel/Administrative Tools/Services option. Scroll down the list ofservices to Sentinel Protection Server. Select this service and thenclick on Stop and then Restart.
An alternative method is to open a command line window and typethe following commands:
net stop sentinelprotectionserver
net start sentinelprotectionserver
Resetting the server will affect all users and applications thatcurrently have a Multiflash license.
Windows firewall compatibilityIf you are running the recent version of Windows the Windowsfirewall is enabled by default. This could prevent the SuperProserver being located across a network. The Sentinel Installer willautomatically offer to make the necessary adjustment to thefirewall settings.
If you do not allow the Installer to change the firewall settings andyou are running a network version of Multiflash you may need tomake changes manually to make UDP port 6001 accessible on themachine that has the key attached. You will need Administrator
rights to do this.1.
Open the Control Panel then open the Windows Firewallitem.
2.
If the firewall is turned on proceed as follows.
3.
Click on the Exceptions tab and then on the Add Portbutton.
4.
You need to enable UDP port 6001 as shown below.
