What is MFA and Why Do We Need It?

➢Multi-factor authentication (MFA) is a method of authentication that requires the use of more than one verification method and adds a second layer of security to user sign-ins andtransactions.

➢MFA adds critical protection for your username and password.

Step 1:Sign into your Student email account

Once MFA has been enabled on student accounts, you will be required to setup verification methods for the first time. After entering your email and password into the login for O365 located at www.portal.office.com the ‘Additional Security Verification’ screen will require that a verification method be chosen before you can move forward.

Step 2: Choose Verification Method

There are 2 methods you can choose from to verify. This will be asked of you each time you log into your ATC Student email account from this point forward. Chose one of the two methods in the drop-down window and submit it to get a verification code. (Mobile App is recommended)

1) Authentication PhoneAdd your Cell Phone and select to get a call or a text.

2) Mobile appThis option requires you to download an application to your cell phone to verify.

*Once verification method is selected, more information will be required to complete the setup.

Click on each link provided to verify and setup your security questions in O365. Once complete you can then access your account.

➢Sign into Office 365 (portal.office.com) with your school account with yourpassword like you normally do. After you choose Sign in, you'll see this page:

➢ We have finished setting up MFA for your useraccount.

➢ MFAwill prompt for authentication if you are on your PC, laptop, tablet, or phone to access your email.

➢ Your password will expire every 90 days, and the system will require you to change that password. The Self-service tool discussed in the remainder of this document will make that process very easy.

1. Enroll yourself into the AD Self-service Portal. Open a browser and navigate to: https://selfservice.atlantatech.edu

2. Enter your username and password, Select Student where Log on to: is located, and press Login

Next you will be asked to enroll in a verification method. We recommend you select SMS Verification, but you can select Security Questions security questions and click Next

The ‘Complete your enrollment now’ screen will appear. Select ‘Click Here’.

Mobile Self-service Password Reset

Setup through Mobile App• Quickly install and configure the AD Self Service app by using the QR Codes below.• Enroll into the app by using your student login (not email address) and then follow the

instructions for setting up your 2-factor authentication.

1. Scan the barcode with your phone’s camera based on your mobile phone type and download and install the AD Self-service mobile app

Open the AD Self-service app, scroll through the app tour by tapping “Next” in the bottom right corner until you get to “Start”. Tap “Server Settings” and then tap “Scan QR Code” in the bottom left of your screen while point the camera at the QR code below
