Mulberry Paper shops

Due to new management and growth Chiang Mai Bonaka are to open new shops in Khon Kaen, Pattaya and Bangkok

Mulberry Paper History

Chiang Mai Bonaka has for many years been an oasis for many Stationery and Gift packaging supply agents from around the world. It is after all; nestled between some wonderful mountain ranges and rustic scenery, and Chiang Mai itself has been a staple for holiday makers since the sixties, so agents never ponder too much when they need a trip to the factory.

Mulberry Paper History

Since the early 1990’s CMB has provided Mulberry paper scrap booking supplies and gift and promotional presentation packaging made from handmade paper to business around the world, and has always been a traditional come and visit the factory, see how we make everything kind of trader, with stands at the traditional exhibitions and the standard branding and marketing avenues manufacturing business follow.

Mulberry Paper New management

However since new management took over early 2015 many things are being brought up to date with the times, we asked Jack Bonaka the marketing director what changes they are implementing:

“For us the first thing was to better educate our customers and potential client base about the companies carbon footprint, you see long before there was such a thing, we knew that the pillaging of natural resources was never going to sustain our business in the long run, and this is something we admired greatly when we took over and never really changed.

Mulberry Paper Sustainability

We take our paper from bark from Mulberry trees that re-grows each year so we have never cut down any trees. We also employ local people and keep an ancient skill and craft alive and help keep the local villages employed.

We are however looking to improve on this sustainability where we could make more use of Mulberry trees for medicaments and Mulberry juices to make full use of the fruits of what nature has given us.

Mulberry Paper Tourism

Because of the many millions of holiday makers to Thailand each year we are expanding our tourist attraction aspect, to include trips to see the trees and how we cultivate the bark and paper through to an arts and crafts centre where young and old alike can try their hand at making their own mulberry presentation boxes, scrap-book albums and Mulberry bags and they can then relax and enjoy our shop for coffee and snacks.

We are continuing with exhibitions, as here in Asia they are a cost effective staple of business, added to this we are now actively seeking property for our first direct to public shop. The first to be opened will be Khon Kaen in the North East of Thailand, then Bangkok and Pattaya.

Mulberry Paper Tourism

The idea behind these shops will be to give direct access to the products that we make to the general public, traditionally we would sell to agents and ship containers, but now people can visit and browse one of our shops near to them and buy single items.

We also plan arts and crafts activities and workshops in our shops for young and old to see how beautiful durable items of desire can be created without destroying our own habitat, so education in ecology and sustainability as well as simple creative craftsmanship will be important for us.

Mulberry Paper Tourism

Also as Chiang Mai is in the very north of Thailand around 500 miles from Bangkok the capital, it is obvious that having more local outlets where marketing and branding Directors can come and touch our products, as well as the general public and help us to design a custom made product for their gifts and promotional branding

Mulberry Paper Industry

The Mulberry paper industry in Thailand was born more out of luck than providence. In the beginning many ordinary people making some extra money from a cottage industry which grew out of hand when Mulberry paper also known as Saa paper, or rice paper become popular with stationers who sell scrap booking items, florists worldwide who wrap flowers with the raw Saa paper, and the durability and aesthetics caught the attention of Jewelers and gift makers around the world, to present the products in unique presentation packaging made from handmade Mulberry paper, until today where it is a household name.

Mulberry Paper Industry

We now recognize the impact handmade paper products have on the Arts and crafts, packaging and gift industry and now we are hopefully are seen as bringing more of a business edge to the industry here in Thailand, as many of the fore runners who built the industry are quite happy for new blood to take it to the next level
