MSU ACC Meeting January 14, 2015 Approved Minutes Attendance: Conrad Davidson, Jacek Mrozik, Kris Warmoth, Laurie Geller, Lenore Koczon, Lori Willoughby, Rebecca Porter, Teresa Loftesnes, Stephen Banister, Libby Claerbout, Beth Odahlen, Paul Markel, Warren Gamas, Laurie Weber. Guest: Brent Askvig Absent: Alysia Huck, Cari Olson Students with Disabilities at MiSU – Brent Askvig Support systems issues and concerns for students & faculty at MSU. Vets – mental health issues and PTSD Students beyond learning disabilities outside of what MSU is used to. Physical, cognitive disabilities and Autism Student Success recommendations A-Step is only a 2 year program. The student can continue to attend MSU but will need support to succeed. Enhance training – faculty development, knowledge, supports and attitudes. NDCPD is available as support – they can help with general information. Staff Senate has created a new committee to focus on disability needs for students on the MSU campus. Expertise is needed – flexible module – blackboard course (discussion) Upper Midwest Symposium on Engagement: Save the Dates will be forthcoming for the Upper Midwest Symposium scheduled for April 9 & 10, 2015 with $20 registration fee. March 2 is end date to register for the Symposium and that will be held in the Student Center. The symposium will have two workshops, opening speakers, morning breakout session, lunch, two afternoon breakout sessions and then concluded at 3:30. FYE Deadlines: Deadlines for fall 2015 is January 23rd and for spring 2016 it is April 1 st . The INT classes are graded pass/fail. Current pass rate is approximately 90%. There was a discussion about stand-alone INT course for students who fail just the INT course. Norwegian Ambassador’s Virtual Presentation: The Virtual presentation is scheduled for Monday, March 9 th , 2:00 – 3:00pm in Aleshire Theater. Topics that will be discussed will be Climate Change affecting the Arctic and NATO relationship between the U.S. and Norway. Please let chairs and faculty know and encourage classes to attend. Five faculty have expressed an interest in having their students attend. Library Updates: The furniture bids are closing and hope of ordering the furniture soon. The Library received a grant for the Reference Desk. Usage at the reference desk is up 9% since moving the desk. 1

January 14, 2015 Approved Minutes

Library has open positions for cataloging and government documents (2 candidates). The Library is adding Collaborative work spaces for students. Last Date of Attendance / Unofficial Withdrawals: January 22nd is last day for full refund. February 5th is a Retirement party for Kathy Nelson in Financial Aid, who has worked at MSU for 25 years. Financial Aid is looking for ways to communicate to faculty about how important attendance is and how it is used with respect to federal aid for students. ***See attached document General Scholarship Deadlines & Timelines for Awarding Departments: February 17th is Scholarship deadline for applications. The Financial Aid office is hoping to have scholarship wrapped up before middle of March. Policy Updates in Registrar’s Office: Policy changes in the Registrar’s office are Credit Hour Policy Change Proposal, and Non-Degree Seeking Credit Policy Proposal. The non-degree policy increases credit hours allowed for military. The credit hour definition is mostly to bring us into compliance with standards as we prepare for accreditation. ***See attached documents. Gearing up for Appropriation Hearings: Legislative is now gearing up and MiSU will be travelling to Bismarck over the course of the session to testify on multiple bills. Announcements: 1st Day numbers MiSU was up 20 students. Advising Task force will have 2 consultants from NACADA on campus on February 2 & 3. Students, faculty and administrators will have opportunity to meet with them. Spring be in the Know sessions, send ideas to Theresa Loftesnes January 2015
