Looking back at the Carrera Panamericana 2010

Mexican Carrera Panamericana

Like the Tourist Trophy on the Isle of Man, of which

Motul is a partner, the Carrera Panamericana (Pan Am)

is one of those exceptional events, unmatched in the

car racing world. The Pan Am – where speed, immo-

deration and exoticism are the buzzwords – is quite

simply the world’s craziest race to some people.

On the start line of the 2010 race, Motul could count

on seven excellent ambassadors, including French-

man Pierre de Thoisy, seven-times winner of the event.

Something of a local star, ‘El Francese’ sporting the

colours of the HK Engineering Team (single ofcial spe-

cialist of the 300 SL accredited by Mercedes Benz)

participated in the event alongside another 100%

Vivier, 2007 winners of the Cross Country Rally World

Cup, in the two-wheel drive category! The least that

can be said is that these two teams were successful

since they mounted the second and third steps of the

podium in the Sport Mayor category.

Among the Motul teams, German crews wearing Mo-

tul colours also raced along the 3500 km of Mexican

roads in the 2010 event. Among these ve teams,

Thomas Ledergerber achieved the best performan-

ce at the wheel of his Mercedes-Benz 280 3.5L by

clinching eighth place of category C.

Carlos Zaid / Corvette C5-R GT1

With ve titles clinched in 2010, Motul Guatemala has

completed a highly successful 2010 sports season.

Once again, Carlos Zaid pulled off a perfect season.

With his titles of Central American GT1 Champion (for

the third consecutive time) and Guatemalan GT Cham-

pion (fourth consecutive year), the Guatemalan alone

has added two new titles to Motul’s list of victories.

The Central American Championship GT3 class was

also clinched by Motul thanks to the victory in the

overall standings of Carlos Hernandez and Marco

Morales.

Last, the other two titles are national ones. Ricardo

Chen is, for the seventh consecutive time, Champion

of Guatemala in the Super Sport class while Hugo Lo-

pez won in the Super Street class of the El Salvador

Championship.

A particularly spectacular discipline, the FIM World Ice

Racing Championship has been dominated for the

past few years by talented Russian riders. Supported

by Motul, Nikolai Krasnikov is unquestionably the dis-

cipline’s top rider. After six consecutive World Cham-

pion titles, the latest dating from this year, the rider will

once again defend his trophy on 15 January 2011 at

the rst qualication heat in Austria.

Philip Neill - Guy Martin / Relentless Suzuki by TAS / GSX-R1000

It’s now ofcial, the legendary Tourist Trophy rider, Guy

Martin, will ride his 2011 season for TAS Racing. This

reference British team (15 Tourist Trophy victories),

enjoying Suzuki’s ofcial support, will be entering the

Lincolnshire born rider in various Superstock events

as well as in the major international road races such as

the Tourist Trophy and North-West 200.

To prepare this new season as best as possible, the

rider and his team were present, mid-December, at the

Almeria circuit in Spain to make a rst series of tests. All

in all, Guy completed 80 circuit laps on his GSX-R1000

Superbike or his all-new GSX-R600. While these rst

results were more than encouraging, it’s a sure bet that

Guy is already impatient to be on the start line of his

rst race for TAS!
