Journal Activity Responses: Directions
After each chapter, you will be writing a short journal response to reflect upon what happened in the story. You will be expected to do the following in each response:
- Answer the question posed in the prompt clearly and concisely
- Cite and explain at least one element/event that happened in In the Time of the Butterflies
- Connect your event to a personal experience
- Use at least one vocabulary word from your personal vocabulary list and circle that word in your response
Journal Activity Responses: Example
Journal Activity Prompt: Finish this thought: If I could change one thing about myself (if you can't think of anything, you might want to consider telling how you got to be perfect!)
(Cite and explain an element from the story, connect that to a personal experience, and use (and circle) at least one vocabulary word from your
vocabulary list)
If I could change one thing about myself, I would want to be more athletic. I have terrible hand-eye coordination and I am not very competitive, and those characteristics prevented me from playing a lot of sports in high school. At the end of Frankenstein , the creature is feeling very upset. He expresses his (remorse) for his actions to Walton, and even cries about his mean and cruel tendencies. I believe that the creature desires to be loved and cared for, but because he is a hideous monster, he is unable to earn the love of his creator. If he could change one thing about himself, he would want to be born beautiful. This event reminded me of an idea we discussed in my psychology class called nature vs. nurture. This concept debates if
