2011 MSBL / MABL WORLD SERIES NEWSLETTER Two New MLB Spring Training Facilities Hosting World Series Games 100+ Degree Temperatures Welcome Players Back To The Valley of the Sun!  By Tom Prendergast Year twenty four got off to a fast start yesterday with several very competitive and many one run ball games at the MSBL / MABL World Series. This year all of the tournament games are being played on major league fields, with the addition of two brand new spring training facilities. The Salt River Fields Complex (home to the Rockies and Diamondbacks) and the Camelback Ranch Complex (home to the Dodgers and the White Sox). Day one of the tournament also saw another record high temperature day at 100 degrees. Most of the players didn't mind the heat however and were happy to be playing baseball in October. The MSBL / MABL WS staff was still working on some web site issues Monday, but by mid afternoon most of the problems had been cleared up and the site was back at 100%. The air conditioner in the WS office at Tempe Diablo Stadium is still not working, but the phone lines are back to normal. All in all not a bad first day. The novelty shop is open for business at Tempe Diablo Stadium and Vic and his staff have certainly outdone themselves with this years merchandise. The new look t-shirts are top of the line as well as just about everything else in the store. And he’s got plenty of this years patches as well as some of last years for those long time MSBL / MABL collectors. A devoted and involved family man, Bob is proud to still call his high school sweetheart, his bride after 41 years. His son Rob (photo) i s a law profes- sor at Texas Tech, following his dad’s legal career path. Bob is the managing partner in a 41 year old firm …. another evidence of the value of his experience. His daughter T ara is the Alumni Director at American University in Washington, D.C. and 6 months ago made him a grandfather for the first time. Bob and Rob have been regulars at the Father & Son event since its inception in 1998. His goal is to play with new grandson Reed when he is 16. Imagine the experience he will bring to the field at age 78! Bob’s wife Jeanne supports his love of baseball and attends his games with other wives and loyal fans. She witnessed several years of struggles in the F/S Division, but rejoiced with her son and her husband when they captured their first championship in 2003. Bob counts that as a uniquely special moment because it was shared with his son, but he says he never will forget the feeling when he won his first championship in 2001 with the 48+ Central. A refrain so often heard among WS v eterans is their love of the relationships they have developed with players all over the country through MSBL, and Bob counts these families as true friends. He was honored in 2004 with induction into the MSBL World Series Hall of Fame. With baseball being such a fulfilling part of this professional leader’s life, we are thankful that he enjoys sharing his great knowledge, understanding, friendship, and most of all…..experience.
