Wales Rally GB gets new home in North WalesThis year’s Wales Rally GB (14-17 November) will be based on Deeside, North Wales, organiser International Motor Sports (IMS) has confirmed.
Highlighting the automotive industry’s importance to the Welsh economy, the rally’s headquarters and central service park will be located on a new site alongside the Toyota Engine Plant in Flintshire. The ceremonial start will be hosted in Conwy on the Thursday 14 November, with the finish set for neighbouring Llandudno three days later.
There will be four days of competitive action across a compact route taking in classic Welsh forest stages, including some at night. Family-friendly spectator stages are also being reintroduced and fans will be offered a wider range of tickets at reduced prices.
“We have listened to what the teams and fans want in our determined efforts to create what we are confident will be not only one of the
best rounds in the WRC but also a fitting finale to the entire 2013 world championship,” said Andrew Coe, IMS Chief Executive. “South Wales has provided us with a fantastic home for Wales Rally GB since 2000 but the move to North Wales has a number of significant advantages. Most importantly, perhaps, we are closer to the sport’s traditional heartlands, some iconic rally forests, as well as being within a short drive of some of the larger conurbations in the UK such as Liverpool, Manchester and the Midlands.”
The move also has the distinct approval of Edwina Hart, Welsh Government Minister for Economy, Transport and Science. “This is exciting news for the Wales Rally GB and for North Wales,” she said. “It also shows the Welsh Government’s continued commitment to Wales Rally GB, which has significant links with the automotive sector in Wales. Wales is home to around 150 component and systems manufacturing companies
and has 15,000 people employed in automotive manufacturing with an annual turnover of £3 billion.”

Go Motorsport Live! all set for Silverstone debutPreparations for the inaugural Go Motorsport Live! at Silverstone on 7 July are gathering pace, with more than 20 exhibitors already signed up to help show the public how accessible the sport can be.
The free event will conclude National Motorsport Week just seven days after the British Grand Prix. Motor clubs, championships, teams and other organisations will set up static displays, which will complement a live Production Car Autotest with free passenger rides, plus a Trials demonstration.
Silverstone will also offer discounted driving experiences and tours of its world-famous facilities, and visitors will also be able to watch the Formula Student finals taking place. Meanwhile marshalling clubs will be on hand to advise potential recruits and highlight the role as part of the MSA’s Year of the Volunteer.
MSA Development Officer Jess Fack manages Go Motorsport and is part of the Go Motorsport Live! organising team. “We’ve been really encouraged by the level of interest in Go Motorsport Live! so soon after announcing the event,” she said. “We want people to come back to Silverstone after the Grand Prix and see that F1 is just the tip of an iceberg. There are all sorts of ways that people can get involved in our sport, not matter what the budget.
“Visitors will be able to meet motor clubs and championship representatives, experience grassroots motor sport from the passenger seat, and find out how to get behind the scenes as a volunteer. And there will be plenty of competition cars on display too, from karts and club hatchbacks to drag racers and BTCC machines!”
Sue Brownson OBE
The MSA is saddened to report the death of its Senior Independent Director, Sue Brownson OBE, following an illness.
Sue was Managing Director of the Blue Bell Group BMW franchise, having first
joined the company in 1975. She was made a Fellow of the Institute of the Motor Industry in 1994, and in 1997 was admitted to the Freedom of the City of London.
In 2005 Sue joined the Board of the Royal Automobile Club and was appointed Vice Chairman in 2007. She became the first female MSA Board member in 2008.
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive, said: “Sue was full of business experience, with extensive knowledge of the motor industry. She was a highly valued and respected member of our Board and we extend our condolences to her husband, Christopher, her three children, and her wider family and friends.”

Lapworth vs Reid in Sporting Trials challenge
The world of Sporting Trials boasts two new high-profile recruits after Prodrive Technical Director David Lapworth took on 2001 World Rally Champion co-driver Robert Reid during the BTRDA’s 75th Anniversary celebrations at Catton Hall in Derbyshire.
The pair trained and competed under the watchful eye of former MSA British Sporting Trials Champion, Julian Fack.
Reid took an early advantage but there was still all to play for on the final hill. Reid looked set to achieve a clear run but misjudged a relatively gentle climb and became stranded. Lapworth, knowing he needed to go clear to take the crown, set off confidently but a fatal navigation error after the ‘8’ marker saw him take a wrong turn and the test was over.
“I’ve driven plenty of fast cars over the years, but this was something completely different,” enthused Lapworth afterwards. “It’s quite easy to recognise the individual skills required and how they all work, but to put it all together is the tricky bit. I also realised that although it’s happening at quite a slow pace, you still have to be concentrating as hard as if you were doing ten times the speed, in order to respond to the loss of grip or the spinning wheels as soon as possible.”
Reid received his prize – a BTRDA umbrella – from MSA Trials Committee chairman Nick Pollitt. “We really
didn’t know what to expect from Sporting Trials,” said Reid. “It was only a bit of fun, of course, but it was no surprise how competitive it got once we were underway! The day has given me a new found respect for trialling and has reaffirmed once more not only the great depth and diversity that exists throughout British motor sport, but also how accessible and open the sport can be.”
New social media campaign to thank volunteers in motor sport
As part of its Year of the Volunteer the MSA has launched a social media campaign based around a character called Marshal, aimed at boosting appreciation of the UK’s 10,000-strong army of volunteer marshals and officials.
‘Marshal’ will be released into the British motor sport community, whose members will be encouraged to post images and accompanying messages incorporating either #ThanksMarshal or @ThanksMarshal, before passing him on to continue his travels across the country on an indefinite basis.
Ben Taylor, MSA Director of Development and Communications, said: “Volunteers are the power behind British motor sport and everybody in the sport knows and appreciates that we are nothing without them. This is a fun and creative campaign to further raise appreciation of motor sport volunteers and encourage even more competitors, clubs, championships and others to express their thanks publicly. It would be great if everyone involved in the sport took the time to say #ThanksMarshal.”

Silverstone awarded lottery grant
The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) and Silverstone Circuits Limited £446,068 towards the development of Silverstone Heritage Live, an archive and heritage trail due to open in 2016.
“We are very proud to have won this grant and are extremely excited about the project,” said Stuart Rolt, BRDC chairman. “The experiences, memories and collections of the BRDC Members, fans and others associated with the sport provide a unique resource with which to tell the compelling story of Silverstone and British motor sport, and we believe the Heritage Centre will increase our visitor number by over 300,000 each year.”
Vanessa Harbar, Head of Heritage Lottery Fund East Midlands, added: “We loved the British Racing Drivers’ Club’s vision for this exciting project, which will open up the magic of Silverstone to both motor enthusiasts and those with an interest in the wider history of the site.”

Hilton honoured ahead of retirement
Sir Jackie Stewart was among 70 guests at outgoing MSA Chief Executive Colin Hilton’s retirement dinner last month at the Royal Automobile Club in London.
Hilton is stepping down after 12 years at the helm of the MSA and 20 with the company in total. He will be replaced by Nick Bunting, formerly of the Prince’s Initiative for Mature Enterprise (PRIME) and the Rugby Football Union (RFU), on 20 May.
Also joining Hilton for the dinner were BRDC President Derek Warwick and Rt Hon Peter Hain MP, plus a selection of MSA Directors and Executives. Legendary motor sport raconteur Stuart Turner entertained guests with an amusing speech paying tribute to Hilton, who then received a commemorative TAG Heuer watch from MSA Chairman Alan Gow.
MSA prize awarded at Cranfield
Colin Hilton visited Cranfield University this week to present the MSA prize for the best MSc Motorsport Group Design Project presentation.
Working in four teams, the Cranfield students were tasked with designing active aerodynamic features for the Reynard Inverter and quantifying their
performance benefits. As well as the MSA accolade, the winning team – Kevin Boutsen; Edouard Carton; Monica Cuadrado; Tom Kempynck; Michael Rhodes; Morgan Trolle – won the Racecar Engineering award for the best team poster.
Christian Devereux
The MSA sends its condolences to the family and friends of Christian Devereux, who died on Sunday as a result of injuries sustained in an accident at Donington Park. As with any serious incident in or around UK motor sport, the MSA is now working closely with the organising club, the police and other agencies to conduct a full investigation.

MSA issues UK karting update
The MSA has confirmed details of Cadet kart tyres and chassis, plus non-gearbox Junior and Senior class homologations.
Formula Cadet tyre and chassisThe existing Cadet tyres, the Dunlop SL3 (slick) and KT3 (wet), will be homologated for three years until the end of 2016. In early 2016 the MSA will nominate the tyre for the following three-year period to the end of 2019.
As stated in the 2013 MSA Kart Race Yearbook, the next period of MSA Cadet chassis homologations commences on 1 January 2014. During 2016 the MSA will homologate chassis for the following three-year period commencing 1 January 2017.
Meanwhile the current Cadet engine contract is for an initial five-year period until the end of 2017 and will be reviewed towards the end of this period, with an option for the MSA to grant a two-year extension.
Junior and Senior class homologation (non-gearbox)All existing British and National championship kart classes can continue until the end of 2016.
The deadline for new class homologations closed on 31 March 2013. The MSA can confirm that applications have been received and are currently under consideration. Should any new class achieve homologation, the introduction date will be 1 January 2014 at regional and club level.
From 1 January 2017, all kart classes must be homologated by the MSA. This includes the homologation of existing classes, plus the renewal of any potential new class homologations. All class homologations will be for three-year periods and will include the engine and nominated tyres (both wet and dry).
Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive and Kart Committee Chairman, said: “This homologation programme will bring stability and transparency to the selection process and provide the most economic and sustainable structure for UK karting in the future.”
SAXMAX in full swing for 2013
The SAXMAX Championship re-launched under the British Automobile Racing Club banner at Croft circuit last month, casting off any doubts that it would run this year.
Guy Wenham took a pair of pole positions and victories in the season-opener at the South Yorkshire venue. James Dorlin and George Streather disputed the remaining podium places in both encounters, taking a second and a third place finish each.
SAXMAX caters for 14- to 17-year-old drivers with race-prepared Citroen Saxos. The championship is back in action for round two at Oulton Park on 27 May.
MSA British Kart Championship transferred to KZ1
The MSA and Super One Series have confirmed that the 2013 MSA British Short Circuit Kart Championship title has been transferred from KF2 to the KZ1 125cc gearbox class.
The championship was originally awarded to KF2 (KF Senior) but insufficient entries were received.
The 2013 championship will now comprise three rounds:
• May 18-19: Rowrah (Cumbria Kart Club)
• June 22-23: Glan Y Gors (Dragon Kart Club)
• October 12-13: Shenington (Shenington Kart Racing Club).
John Hoyle, Super One Series promoter, said: “After we discovered there were insufficient entries in the KF2 class we were forced to consider alternatives and I am delighted to say that the MSA has agreed to it being the KZ1 class. This should be a huge boost for gearbox karting in the UK following the great popularity this purist class has had on the continent, and we invite anyone interested to register without delay.”

These are difficult times for KF2 but in KZ1 we have a competitive and well-supported category that is worthy of the UK’s premier karting title.”

Inaugural Spring Classic a success as Euroclassic approaches
The inaugural MSA Spring Classic, a non-competitive scenic tour for classic cars, was well received by participants when it debuted on 27-28 April.
On day one the route encompassed the breath-taking scenery of the Welsh Black Mountains and Brecon Breacons, culminating with a gala dinner at Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales. The second day took in the beautiful West Country and Mendip Hills before the finish at Castle Combe, where drivers enjoyed exclusive use of the circuit.
“What a fantastic event!” said John Nicolle, who drove a 1975 Porsche 911S. “Everything was perfect with lots of attention to detail. Icing on the cake: the Gospel Pass, Epynt Rally Stage and Castle Combe without crowds. Oh, and the food – wow!”
Pat Callear in a 1971 Jaguar E-Type said: “It was a lovely
weekend; good to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. And you got the weather sorted too!”
Meanwhile there are still spaces left on the 21st MSA Euroclassic, a pan-European classic car tour, which begins in Dover on Saturday 7 September before travelling across the channel into France, Belgium and Germany, ultimately finishing in Luxembourg on Friday 13 September.

Loughborough CC announces Disabled Scholarship winners
Loughborough Car Club’s 2013 Disabled Driver Scholarship has been won by Alext Tait and Claire Holdcroft, who will each receive a fully supported season of grassroots motor sport in a car prepared and run by club members.
Tait, aged 14 from Sheffield, and 24-year-old Holdcroft from Buxton, will take part in a mixed programme of 11 events this year. They were chosen from 10 finalists following driving assessments and personal interviews.
Andy Egger, who led the judging panel, said: “This year we met some very strong personalities who each had a great attitude. This made the choice very difficult as we were specifically looking for individuals with a determination to compete in motor sport.”
Mark Edwards, one of the 2012 winners, assisted with driver coaching. “It was nice to help with this year’s assessment, having had so much fun the previous year,” he said.

Broadband offered via satellite
GlobeCast, the provider of satellite transmitters for Wales Rally GB, is now working with Project Four Events to provide broadband via satellite at events across the country.
“We’ve all had the frustrations of not being able to get broadband on events,” said GlobeCast’s Gary Champion. “It’s either nowhere near an exchange, the telecom company want loads of notice or exorbitant install charges. Now there’s an alternative. If you can see the sky, you can get broadband at 20Mbps.”

Bill Gwynne Rallyschool International Launches Tarmac School
Bill Gwynne Rallyschool International is launching a dedicated Tarmac School for 2013.
Managing Director Bill Gwynne has been developing the school since running successful events at the Blyton Park Driving Centre. The courses are open to drivers at all levels of experience, from juniors to competitors looking to shave a second or two off their stage times.
“I’ve run tarmac coaching courses for individual drivers at a variety of venues for many years,” said Gwynne. “I’m delighted to now be working with Richard Usher at Blyton Park Driving Centre to offer the first dedicated tarmac Rallyschool in the UK. There is a new amendment to the Rotax FR125 engine homologation fiche. The updated version can be downloaded from www.msauk.org/karttech. For your awareness, the amendment concerns damage to the exhaust valve gasket.
List 1B tyres
Competitors are reminded that – as advised in Blue Book Section (L) – some of the tyres under List 1B are available in a number of different compounds and not all compound versions are E-marked. Only the E-marked version is acceptable under List 1B.
IAME Parilla Gazelle 60cc Cadet engine fiche
The finalised engine homologation fiche for the new MSA cadet engine is freely available for download at www.msauk.org/karttech.
There is provision for the use of either a 10-tooth or 11-tooth sprocket on the clutch drum. This was the original intention on introduction of the engine and both components have
been supplied and are in common circulation.
Class regulations have also been amended. The official amendment can also be found online at www.msauk.org/karttech

King tackles triathlon for children’s hospital
MSA Squad member Jordan King and his father Justin competed in a triathlon yesterday (9 May) to raise money for Birmingham Children’s hospital, where the younger King was treated for cancer as an infant.
The event took place at Blenheim Palace and comprised a 750m swim, followed by a 19.8km bike ride around the palace grounds and a 5.4km run to the finish. Donations are still being accepted at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/KingsTriathlon

Formula 4 gets PMCs as MSA Academy drivers shineCompetitors in the new BRDC Formula 4 Championship have already benefitted from the MSA Academy’s Performance Master Classes, a series of bespoke workshops designed to introduce young drivers to the concepts of sports science and human performance.
MSA Coach Adam Gould and Porsche Human Performance’s Jack Wilson delivered the Engineering an Athlete and Fuelling Yourself workshops, focussing on fitness and hydration respectively, during the championship’s media day at Snetterton last month.
Gould and fellow MSA Coach Bradley Ellis then covered Driving 101 (Technical and Tactical) and Working to Win (Responsibilities of a driver to enhance performance) during practice day for F4’s first rounds at Silverstone.
The F4 season-opener was particularly strong for MSA Academy members. MSA Squad member Jack Barlow and MSA Apprentices Seb Morris and Jake Dalton were first, second and third in race two, while in race three Dalton led home Morris and the MSA Squad’s Matthew Graham before collecting the winner’s trophy from F1 star Mark Webber.
After his victory in race two Barlow said: “Even as I approached the chequered flag, my victory hadn’t sunk in. I would like to thank everyone at SWR, the MSA Academy, Arai, Adidas and Toby Warrington for his continued help.”

Marussia F1 driver Max Chilton joined past and present members of the MSA Team UK national squad at the Chelsea Football Club Academy for a co-development event with rising young soccer stars.
Representing the MSA’s talent development initiative were single-seater aces James Calado, Josh Hill, Jordan King, Alex Lynn, Harry
Tincknell, Nick Yelloly and Josh Webster, plus sportscar driver Alexander Sims, GT and MSA Academy racer Jody Fannin and rallying’s Mark Donnelly.
The day was billed as a ‘job swap’ and began with Team UK training alongside Chelsea’s youth squad in Cobham, Surrey, where they met Chelsea first team and England
International player Ryan Bertrand, himself a product of the Chelsea Academy. In the afternoon the drivers coached the young footballers as they climbed aboard linked-up simulators at Let’s Race in Horley.
“It was an opportunity for our drivers to understand just how hard athletes work in other sports; the level of detail they go into, the briefings and debriefings; the analysis as well as their attitudes and dedication,” said MSA Performance Director Robert Reid. “It was also fascinating to spend time with the Chelsea coaches and understand the approach they take to long-term talent development.”

Chelsea also praised the initiative. “Without a shadow of doubt it’s been a great exercise on lots of different fronts,” said Gerry Harvey, Director of Education at the Chelsea FC Academy. “We always look at all disciplines with an open mind thinking we can benefit others but, vice versa, thinking we can learn from them, too. We’ve found that over the years there are always crossovers in every single field and that’s why we are keen to share with other sports or other industries. Whether from the MSA or Chelsea Football Club, everyone will have taken something from this experience.”

RDO helps link school with local club
Craven Motor Club president Peter Henness joined South East RDO Tom Gaymor for a visit to Wokingham’s The Emmbrook School, which has established a successful karting club since Gaymor’s first trip there last year.
Go Motorsport’s latest visit aimed to build on this success; a group of keen pupils will now attend Craven MC events this year and will get involved in cadet marshalling.
“Emmbrook is also going to invite local partner secondary schools to attend a presentation with Go Motorsport involving Craven MC and a host of rally cars,” said Gaymor. “This is a great platform for Craven to develop a junior membership arm and also for the kids to progress their interest in motor sport.”
Great opportunity for South West clubs
South West RDO Kevin Moore has secured a large display area at the South West Autosport Show, a growing automotive event in the West Country taking place at Newton Abbot Racecourse on 16 June.
The space is sufficient for every motor club located in the region to display two or three competition cars and promote their activities. Drivers of display vehicles will be admitted free of charge and other associated club representatives can pre-book their ticket for just £5.
Moore said: “This is a fantastic chance for clubs to appeal to possible new members or sources for new venues. It is also a rare opportunity for networking with other car clubs in a relaxed environment.”

University award for Scotland RDO
Alison Clark ended her first year as Go Motorsport’s Regional Development Officer (RDO) in Scotland on a high, collecting the Above and Beyond Award at the University of West of Scotland’s Sports And Societies Ball last month.
The award recognises the fundamental role that GoMotorsport has played in developing university’s Motor Sports Club, whose members built a rally car on the Go Motorsport stand at Autosport International in January.
“It’s been a fantastic first year,” said Alison. “Winning this award after seeing the club progress so much is the icing on the anniversary cake.”
Wigton MC offers free entries for NMW
Wigton Motor Club is supporting National Motorsport Week by offering three novice crews free entries for Lake District Classic Rally on 7 July.
The rally will be based at the popular Penrith Truckstop venue near Junction 40 of the M6 in Cumbria. It will comprise 20 spacious, open tests, covering a compact route limited to 70 road miles. The free entries will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Go Motorsport at the Pirelli Rally
Go Motorsport was on hand at the recent Richard Burns Foundation Pirelli Rally to show fans how they can get involved in the sport with their own standard or lightly modified car.
Central Southern RDO Pete Metcalfe and Scotland RDO Alison Clark manned a stand in the Rally Village at Carlisle Racecourse, featuring a selection of grassroots competition cars including road-going sprint, hill climb and trials machines. Visitors were also given information about local events and how to join their local motor club.
“Having been impressed by the stars of the MSA British Rally Championship, some visitors were surprised to find out how it’s possible to compete in a road car at such a low cost,” said Metcalfe. “They were also surprised how many events happened so close to home. The clubs who supported the stand had some genuine interest from the public that I’m sure will lead to new members and competitors.’’
Clark added: “It’s always satisfying getting the message across that motorsport doesn’t have to cost the earth, or involve travelling huge distances.”

Volunteer
Get to the heart of the action!
Marshalling
Marshals are there to make sure that events are run safely and effectively. Duties range from displaying flag signals and clearing debris to providing communication cover as well as running a start, finish line or assembly area.
Scrutineering
Scrutineers check that cars comply with the technical regulations to ensure safety and fair play. While experience in engineering or a similar technical field is usually an advantage, it is not essential.
Rescuing and recovering
Rescue personnel provide immediate medical and extrication facilities at the scene of an incident, while Recovery personnel retrieve stricken cars. Both crews use the latest medical or recovery equipment.
Timekeeping
Timekeepers record competitors’ times and positions in order to determine the event results. Tools range from hand-held stopwatches to electronic timing systems that can measure to the nearest thousandth of a second.
Officiating
Once you’ve gained some experience in one or more of the above roles you can consider becoming a Steward, Secretary of the Meeting or Clerk of Course, who are responsible for ensuring that events are run in accordance with sporting regulations.

Try…MarshallingEach month during the Year of the Volunteer we will be focusing on a particular volunteering role. This month we take a look at marshalling.
British motor sport relies on the thousands of volunteer marshals who turn out at events across the country to help run them safely and fairly. It would be wrong to see the role as a fall-back for frustrated racers lacking the funds to compete, because marshalling stands firmly on its own two feet as a fun and rewarding way of getting more involved in the exciting world of motor sport.

Twenty-two-year-old Kieron Slamons has climbed the marshalling ladder quickly enough to be approaching his sixth British Grand Prix in orange overalls.
“I started cadet marshalling at Castle Combe as soon as I was old enough and learnt the ropes from there. At first I was marshalling in the paddock, which entails lining cars up and then releasing them onto the circuit. As well as club level events I soon found myself at F3 and GT meetings too.
“Once you turn 16 you can go trackside. The first post I joined was Church at Thruxton, and it was a bit of an eye-opener being so close the cars as they flew by. I’m now an incident officer and I’m also one of the safety car observers for BARC, so I’ve progressed quite well in marshalling. Being part of an incident team is about getting a stranded car recovered quickly and safely, and if necessary attending to any fire and applying first aid.
“Being a marshal means having the best seat in the house. It means getting involved in a sport that you’re passionate about, and you can also go behind the scenes and get close to the cars and the drivers.
“There’s also a lot of camaraderie. If you’re lucky enough to marshal at the British Grand Prix you stay in a massive campsite with all the other marshals and there’s a fantastic atmosphere. I was also privileged to be one of around 350 people invited by BARC to marshal at the inaugural Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which was a money-can’t-buy experience; all it cost me was £19 to get to Heathrow! Then I went back to marshal at the V8 Supercars round there.
“There are so many incentives to marshalling, so I would certainly urge people to visit the Go Motorsport website or have a look at the great marshalling section on the BARC website for more information about how to get involved.”
Gary Mitchell has been marshalling for over 20 years and still volunteers on local club events despite running stages at World Rally Championship level.
“My father was involved in the 750 Motor Club, so motor sport was in the blood and he used to take me to Silverstone regularly. My brother then
started to follow rallying in particular and I’d tag along with him to various events.
“My love of rally marshalling is the fact that you can still get really close to the cars. I also like the fact that if you’re running time controls you can speak to every competitor, whether on a local event or an international rally.
“I love the camaraderie too; you see the same people out marshalling at different events and feel that you’ve got a common interest. It’s a like-minded community and you’re all there because of a love for the sport.
“There are all sorts of different duties when it comes to rally marshalling. You could be a stage-side marshal manning a junction, which might involve a degree of spectator control as well. Or you might be manning a radio set, listening in and conversing with the officials if there are any issues. Then there’s the chance to run time controls, or perhaps look after a service park or re-group.
“I’ve moved up the marshalling ladder over the years and I now run stages for Wales Rally GB, but a couple of weekends ago I was manning a control on a local club road rally, so the variety of events you can be part of is huge.
“I think the best thing about marshalling is that it can be a bit of escapism. It’s a chance to drop your day job, forget about what you’d normally do 9-5 and get out there on a rally. So go to GoMotorsport.net, join your local motor club and get involved.”
