Microsoft Word 2013 Exercise 1 Type the following text:

The Fairy Tales we deserve

The Disney Stories that enchant us today are drawn from ancient, worldwide folk tradition. Some

folklorists believe that "Cinderella" in its most basic form—neglected youngest child is tested, found

worthy, rewarded with mate--dates back to the Old Stone Age.

Cinderella

Folk versions of "Cinderella" were related in hundreds of societies. In these stories, the "test" for the

unfortunate child is different. Our familiar Cinderella is beautiful and has tiny feet. By contrast, the

Japanese Cinderella gets her Prince by writing a prize-winning poem.

Other fairytales include:

Little Red Riding Hood

Three Little Pigs

Beauty and the Beast

1) Save your work as “Fairytales”.

2) Run the spell checker.

3) Make bold and underline “The Fairy Tales we deserve”

4) Change the line spacing of the paragraphs to 1.5.

5) Apply a hanging indentation to the second paragraph starting “Folk versions…”

6) Replace the word “beautiful” with magnificent.

7) Apply the style Heading 1 to “Cinderella”

8) Apply a 6pt width page border to the document.

9) Add a header to the document and write your Name and Surname.

10) Change the bullets points to a numbered list.

Dear «Home_Contact»:

This is to let you know that on June 3rd we plan to take «Student_First_Name» «Student_Last_Name»‘s class on a day long field trip. We call this trip The Southwest Pennsylvania Disaster Tour. The bus leaves the school at 9:00 am sharp.

The tour starts with a visit to the Johnstown Flood Museum new South Fork, followed by a visit to the 9-11 Flight 93 Memorial site at Shanksville. The tour will conclude with a visit to the Quecreek Mining Disaster memorial at Quecreek, near Somerset. The trip is the culminating activity after a five week Social Studies Unit in which the local and national response to disaster such as these have been the special focus of interest for the class.

«Student_First_Name» will leave and return within the normal time for the school day, so there will be no disruption to your own schedule.

Please prepare «Student_First_Name» a pack lunch for the trip. The restaurant facilities, such as they are, at the various sites are somewhat expensive and we have been unable to negotiate an acceptable reduced charge for school children.

Feel free to call me at school at (814) 772-3232 should you have need to discuss this matter further. Thank you for your help in this educational endeavor and for your support throughout the year.

Yours sincerely,

Exercise 14 Here is the text that you’re going to use for this exercise.

Humorous Quotations

Here are several quotations from well-known people. Do you know them? The first is from a famous scientist:

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former. (Albert Einstein)

The second quotation is actually from a musician:

Sometimes you're the windshield; sometimes you're the bug. (Mark Knopfler)

Finally, here is a quotation from a French author and humorist:

Don’t put off ‘till tomorrow something which you can do the day after. (Alphonse Allais)

Now, did any of these three quotations actually make you smile?

Instructions

1. Copy and paste the above paragraphs into a new document.

2. The first line is the title. Separate it from the text. Choose a darker font in a larger size.

3. Change the margins according to the image.

4. Add automatic spacing between the paragraphs.

5. Change the indents according to the image (the first line of the paragraphs, and both sides of the quotations). The quotations are the sentences which are following by a name in brackets.

6. Reduce the size of the quotations by one point.

7. Put the names which are now in brackets in footnotes instead. Remove the brackets.

8. Justify all the paragraphs.

9. Adjust the margins again to center the main text horizontally and vertically. Check by doing several print previews

10. Save your document in your folder.

Burke Properties, Inc. Annual Report

To Our Stockholders

Milestones This fiscal year was truly a foundation-building year for Burke Properties, Inc. Fueled by a continued strong

economy and robust commercial real estate markets, we significantly increased our revenues and earnings,

strengthened our balance sheet, and put in place a solid platform from which we can now aggressively implement

our long-term growth strategy.

Among our fiscal accomplishments, we:

Achieved an almost eleven-fold increase in net income before non-recurring items, to $10.9 million from $1 million a year ago;

Completely eliminated our long-term debt, which was $10.2 million last fiscal year;

Improved our stockholders’ equity to $9 million from a negative net worth of $24.3 million; and

Increased our market capitalization to $37.3 million at June 30, from $27.6 million at the same time last year.

Review of Year Results

Financial Overview For the fiscal year ended June 30, total revenue increased 15% to $200.5 million from $174.3 million last year.

Excluding non-recurring items, earnings before interest expense, income taxes, depreciation and amortization—a

widely used measure of a company’s ability to generate cash flow from operations—rose 127% to $15.3 million

from $5.2 million a year ago. These results are significant despite the costs involved with the Smith v. Burke case.1

Net Income Excluding a deferred tax benefit and other non-recurring expenses and

extraordinary items, net income for the year was $10.6 million, an

increase over the $1 million recorded last year. Fully diluted earnings

per share on this basis increased to $.58 per fully diluted share, vs.

$1.8 million, or a loss of $.08 per share, last year.

Market Forecast

Residential In the South, private housing continues leading the pack. Of course,

all of this activity is at the expense of the North. This region hasn’t

seen significant growth for a long time and the outlook remains bleak.

(See the data in Table 1.) This ongoing trend is a unique opportunity

for the Company providing we are flexible enough to channel our

resources properly into the Southern offices.2

1 All financial details can be found in the auditor’s fourth-quarter report. 2 The chart and table data is from the Census Bureau’s June 2003 New Residential Sales press release.

Annual Objectives In the year ahead, we expect to build upon the momentum we achieved in this fiscal year by continuing to

implement our long-term growth strategy, which includes:

New Relationships One of our objectives for the immediate future is to develop long-term relationships with key corporations and the

top institutional owners of real estate nationwide.

Untapped Markets Building a broader, more cohesive system of offices and expanding services for clients with needs in currently

underserved markets is critical to growth.

Identify Revenue Opportunities Leveraging our historic strength in transaction services to cross-sell other Burke services to generate recurring, fee-based income. Along these same lines, capitalizing on leasing opportunities where the Company is currently only providing property management services, and vice versa, is a significant opportunity.

History of the Book The book has a fascinating history. When you look at the electronic books of today and compare them with the books from the far distant past, you see many similarities. Let’s take a look at the changes in printing and other technologies that lead to what we call a book today.

Before the Printing Press Written Word Paper making Library at Alexandria

Printed Books Middle Ages Who could read?

a. At this time, reading was a skill taught to an elite group of people that included the wealthy and the religious.

Printing Press Around 1440 the invention of the printing press changed book publishing and reading forever. Johannes Gutenberg was a German blacksmith, printer and publisher. His monumental contribution to the industry was the invention of moveable type. In addition he also invented oil-based inks to work with his printing press. The printing technology spread rapidly through Europe and changed the world forever.

Trolley Street Celebration

The Trolley Street site as it appeared in 1995.

Fifteen years ago, Dr. Patsy Heald, a professor of

Mathematics at Greene College, approached the college

board with her vision of a partnership between the

college and Greene City Building with Heart.

The project captured the imagination of the board, and

the college soon donated a site on Trolley Street. Faculty,

staff, and students signed up as builders, and a site was

selected for the first project. The rest is history.

Six of the seven families who benefitted from the Trolley

Street projects were represented. The celebration was

attended by John and Sandy Sanford, Mike and Irene Rios

and their twin sons, Sal and

Rosetta Krieg, Alice Guthrie,

Shelly

Schwartz, Marion and Bernie Ross, and Jay Nufrick.

Many stories were told about the thousands of hours of

hard work contributed by volunteers

through which the projects were

successfully completed. While

there were some

tears in

the crowd as

homeowners shared how their lives were

changed, some were laughing so hard they cried as

Mayor Hager shared a hilarious collection of funny

stories (complete with “blooper” movies, in some cases)

that volunteers have shared with us over the years.

Dr. Heald, former Director

of the Building with Heart

Trolley Street project and

current Director of

Development, recounted

the project's original

vision and identified how

the vision was fulfilled.

The Trolley Street project garnered national attention

and has been cited as an example of innovative design

and construction. Trolley Street homes are not only

attractive and were economical to construct, they are

energy-efficient and inexpensive to maintain.

Dr. Heald cited contributions of both materials and

services by more than fifty Greene City community

members. Bill Rosen announced several major new

donations and unveiled the plan for the Clinton Street

site.
