British Literature
You, the students, will explore reflective, expository, argumentative, and literary contexts with a focus on British Literature. Students will examine complex issues and texts from multiple points of view, including looking at the ways in which an author’s cultural background and assumptions affect the text. The rhetorical emphasis will be on effective writing primarily focused on the development of clear thesis statements and well-developed support. Students will work to increase their expressiveness in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and using media.
Also, we will be spending a good deal of time working on the art of your language, including increasing your vocabulary, strengthening your ability to use language correctly (mechanics and grammar), and firming your grasp of eloquence at the sentence and paragraph level.
All work is expected to be turned in on or read by the date for which it is assigned. Completing assignments on time ensures that you will have something to contribute to our classroom discussion.
Always be ready to participate. You should bring these things with you to every class: a question, a comment, an opinion, an observation, and a willingness to share.
There is never an excuse for cheating or plagiarism. Cheating constitutes giving or receiving any type of unauthorized aid on an assignment. Plagiarism is defined as the intentional borrowing of another person’s ideas or language for the purpose of not producing your own.
I am excited to learn about and teach all of you!
