MRTP ACT

The MRTP Act has made distinction between monopolistic and restrictive trade practices.

It was setup to investigate the effects of monopolistic conditions case by case on the public interest and to recommend suitable correct measures.

Introduced in 1969 implemented on 1970.

OBJECTIVE

To have a careful watch that the operation of the economic system does not create any concentration of economic power to the detriment of the common people of the country.

To control monopolies prevailing in the country. To have a check on monopolistic, restrictive and

unfair trade practices in the country.

Role of the MRTP and Goverment

There has general reluctances and delay in referring various matters to the MRTP commission.

The government is reluctant to implement provision of the MRTP act.

Suggestion For the Successful Operation

Should have mandatory powers to pass final orders.

Applied to the public sectors as well.Adequate powers to pressurize the wrong

parties to provide compensation.Should appoint full-body commission to

study the problems of huge monopolistic practices.
