STUDENTS WILL CHOOSE A BOOK, NOVEL, SHORT STORY, POEM, OR MAGAZINE ARTICLES TO READ.
STUDENTS WILL THEN WRITE REFLECTIONS AND SUMMARIES OF WHAT THEY READ AND THEN CREATIVELY SHARE OUT.
Textbooks, workbooks, comic books, and gaming magazines will not be approved for silent reading day.
Although we will read daily, our designated silent reading day with a visit to the library will be WEDNESDAYS.
GRADING POLICY
● The grading scale is: A (90-100%); B (80-89%); C (70-79%); D (60-69%); and F (0-59%) on the following major grading components:
● Class work – 30% of students’ grade: this involves oral or written work, which includes individual and/or group work. Class participation and class work is based upon the following:
– Preparations for class
– Attendance and contribution to the class
– Class involvement, discussion, attentiveness, and alertness and completion of in-class assignments
GRADING POLICY - Part 2
● Homework – 5% of students’ grade: assignments checked, collected, and/or reviewed.
● Formal and Informal Assessments – 35% of students’ grade: will be announced. Please note: Tests are typically worth 100% and Quizzes are typically 50%.
● Projects – 30% of students’ grade: individual and group project – may also be completed in class or at home depending on the instructions.
BATHROOM PASSES
YOU CAN NOT GO TO THE BATHROOM WITHOUT PERMISSION.
IF YOU HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM, PLEASE RAISE YOUR HAND WITH YOUR THUMB IN THE PALM OF YOUR HAND. I WILL GIVE YOU PERMISSION (OR NOT). *
IF YOU HAVE PERMISSION, PLEASE SIGN OUT IN THE BATHROOM SIGN OUT FOLDER/SHEET.
***PLEASE NOTE*** A MAXIMUM OF 2-3 PASSES PER CLASS AND ONLY THOSE WITH URGENT REQUESTS WILL BE ALLOWED TO GO.
*If I don’t allow a student to go to the bathroom during any particular period, it is probably
because he/she asks every day abusing the bathroom pass system, or I have already let my emergencies out and can not let anyone else out for that period. Remember a maximum of 2-3
passes per class can use the bathroom.

CLASSROOM RULES
• ***Follow the school’s rules and honor code in the Student and Parent Handbook.
• ***Respect one another’s property and self.

• ***Bring your notebook and appropriate supplies to class daily.
• ***Have on your desk only the materials pertaining to reading class.
• ***Refrain from asking for passes to leave the room unless absolutely necessary.
• ***Follow the classroom procedures outlined in this1st Day PowerPoint presentation.
CLASSROOM RULES
• ***Do not take anyone else’s property without permission. This includes notebooks, journal books, or any materials in any of the bins in class.
• ***Do not talk when students or the teacher is talking.
• ***Do not get out of your seats without permission.
• ***Sharpen all pencils at the very beginning of class every day. Try to eliminate getting up and sharpening your pencil while class is in session. It is a huge distraction.

Please note that if the student chooses not to follow the classroom rules, the following steps will be taken: ~1st offense: a warning is given. ~2nd offense: a phone call or email home will be made. ~3rd offense: a referral sent to the appropriate dean.
