ObituaryAcross the ages and through the annals of time, phenomenal women from all walks of life have been bom into the universe to make an indelible impression on the lives of those around them. True character is not something shaped from without, or put on, but it is something radiating from within. Mrs. Polly Dorsey, whom carried a soft gentle smile, was bom in Columbia County, Georgia on February 17, 1912, to the parentage of the late Prince and Sarah Dunn. At an early age she joined the Lampkin Grove Baptist Church in Appling, Georgia, but later united with Water Branch Baptist Church in Grovetown, Georgia. Where she served faithfully until her illness. It is the little things in Life that reveals a person’s real character. This is what attracted the late Walter Dorsey Sr. to Polly and lead to the marriage that blessed them with eighteen loving devoted children, five of which preceded her in death.

Deprived of her presence but filled with their memories are six sons. Walter (Minnie) Dorsey, Sr. of Dearing, Georgia, Alfred (Trudie) Dorsey of Harlem, Georgia, James (Barbara) Dorsey of Thomson, Georgia, Johnny (Amy) Dorsey of Harlem, Georgia, Marion (Betty) Dorsey of Dearing, Georgia, and Flemming Dorsey of Dearing, Georgia; seven daughters, Lucy (Fred) Long of Harlem, Georgia, Helen (Steve) Bell of Grovetown, Georgia, Mattie (Rob Sr.) Ramsey of Harlem, Georgia, Mary Boyd of Dearing, Georgia, Rosie Raiford of Harlem, Georgia, Lorine (Eugene) Scott of Harlem, Georgia, and Louise (Eddie Sr.) Boyd of Dearing, Georgia; two brothers, Rich Bennett and Joe Dunn, both of Harlem, Georgia; two sisters, Mae Frances Burnett and Carrie Dunn, both of Harlem, Georgia; two sisters-in-law, Rose Blount of Thomson, Georgia and Ledia Curtis of Harlem, Georgia; one brother-in- law, George Dorsey of Harlem, Georgia; forty-one grandchildren, sixty-six great-grandchildren, and twenty-five great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephew, cousins, friends. Our community has lost a pillar. All of us have been deprived of her wisdom, her strength and her service to those around her.
