Meet the Teacher

• My husband and I live in Corona and been married 31 years. I have 4 children and 2 young granddaughters and one grandson, Hazel, Savannah and Henry.

• I have been teaching for 18 years in CNUSD district• I have taught Kindergarten, First grade, Second Grade

and Fourth Grade.• I earned my B.S. degree from Utah State University.• I earned my Master’s Degree in Education (Emphasis in

Reading) from National University in Costa Mesa, CA• I enjoy traveling, reading, gardening, quilting and gym• Anaheim Angel baseball fan, and racquetball player

Behavior Management

• 1st time - Warning (FOUL BALL)• 2nd time – Strike 1 Miss a recess• 3rd time – Strike 2 Write a letter to your• parents for signature• 4th time – Strike 3 – sent to an different

Class Rewards

Class rewards are offered in different ways to motivate students independently and promote teamwork.

1. Compliments and verbal praise 2. Classroom tickets (semi-weekly drawing) 3. P.A.T. (Preferred Activity Time) – whole class 4. Table Teams – monthly award 5. School-wide Awards (Character Counts, Kiwanis, and Academic Excellence – 2 per month

Reading

• Monthly AR goals- 3 books per month (2 of their own choosing, and 1 from our class anthology list.

80% comprehension is needed to pass the AR books. • In Class reading units will be 2 weeks long. Reading

assessments will be every other Friday.• A spelling test will be given every Friday. ½ of test

concerns a phonetic sound or spelling, the other ½ of test assess mastery of high-frequent 4th grade words.

• Common Core Curriculum will bring in 50% nonfiction reading.• Students will learn to cite evidence and close-read.• 20 minutes of personal reading every night as part of homework

• New Spelling pattern/sounds introduced on Monday.• Weekly spelling packets are sent home on Mondays. It

consists of 2 pages both double-sided pages. • Only one side of one page is done per night as

homework (Monday-Thursday)• Thursday night, parents can give quick pretest.• Class takes Spelling Test every Friday. If absent, the

child will take it Monday morning.

Math, Science, and Social Studies

• Tests are usually printed on yellow paper so you can identify them quickly in binder

• Make-ups and extra credit will be available on most assignments.

• Tests will be announced on the homework log and in the monthly newsletter.

Writing

• Students will be learning how to write multi-paragraph essays this year.

• Student write 3 genres – Narrative, Opinion, and Informational

• Parents will be asked to edit with their child his

or her essays before final draft. • A Parent Guide pamphlet with writing formats/details will be given at Conferences in October.

Homework

• Students will fill out a homework log at school and bring home nightly.

• Homework will be assigned on Monday- Thursday nights. Occasionally we will be working on a larger project that will have a specific due date that is done at home.

• Homework consists of 20 minutes personal reading and completing reading log summary, Math lesson, a spelling page, and at least one other assignment between grammar, writing, social studies or science.

• If your child does not bring their homework, they will be staying in at recess. Students are responsible to pack up homework.

• No Homework = No Recess• More than 4 missed assignments will bump your child from

Honor Roll Award.

Special Activities

Students will have outside classroom time each week. Our schedule is as follows:

•Monday- P.E.* 1:20-1:57•Monday Library 9:30-10:05•Wednesday- Early release 12:57•Wednesday Computer Lab 9:200-10:00•Friday- P.E. * 1:20-1:57

*On P.E. days please make sure yourchild wears tennis shoes and dressesappropriately. If they do not dressappropriately they will have to sit out of P.E. and this does affect their grade.

Parent Involvement

• I welcome and encourage parent volunteers.• Please fill out the paperwork and/or get

fingerprinted if necessary. (Last year’s is ok)• 4+ hours per week must have fingerprints.• -4 hours per week must fill out a form and

cleared by district• Class needs 2 volunteers for Room Moms• Only fingerprinted parents will be allowed to

go on field trips.• Only 5 parents are allowed to attend parties.

Field Trip

Fourth Grade will have two field trips. District offers the World Kindness Conference in

October to all 4th graders Curriculum –based field trip usually is to the San

Juan Capistrano Mission in January. Fundraiser is necessary to pay costs.

2 parents chaperones per field trip only. Chaperones must be cleared from the

district. ( fingerprinted)

How can I help my child SUCCEED in school?

• Ask your children about school and encourage them to talk about their day.

• Make sure your child gets plenty of sleep, has healthy breakfast and is ready for school every day.

• Teach your children to be responsible for their actions and their schoolwork. It’s their JOB!!!

Know what they are reading for A.R. goal. Talk

about the characters, plot, problem and solution, cause and effect elements. Don’t talk negatively about your child’s teacher, the school, or programs. Don’t fight their battles, help them learn skills to cope, make positive changes, and toughen up. Get involved with our PTA and the programs!
