Civil War Regiments Project Use Google Maps, Tour Builder Choose a regiment to research. It can be one of the choices below or you can find another, maybe one that
you have a relative that fought with it.
Follow your regiment through the war – build a Google Map that includes Your first map location will be the location where the regiment was formed Expand on 7-10 battles your regiment fought in – place arrows on these locations then build a summary box
including: who won each battle, what happened to the regiment in the battle – key events and the regiment’s
role in the fighting, what were the casualties a real picture from the battle
Trace your division throughout the war – map its progress The last point on your map will be where the regiment ended
Your written research piece will include:1. Who were they – from? Volunteer/conscripted? type of unit (infantry, artillery, cavalry)?2. Description/picture of regiment’s uniform and flag
3. Who led the regiment (usually led by a Colonel)? – leaders all the way up the chain of command
4. What was the regiment’s overall role in the war? Identify the regiment’s significance
BONUS – find a personal letter from a real member of your regiment
