Extra Credit Policy

•In an effort to encourage students to obtain extra help and tutoring in this science class, the following extra credit will be given:•One (1) point will be earned for each thirty (30) minutes that a student spends in after school tutoring. The student must be engaged in meaningful study, work, and supervision.•For each unit test given, a maximum of ten (10) percentage points can be earned.•The extra credit time must be spent in additional supplementary work of the student. Making up tests, quizzes, individual assignments, and labs are not considered supplementary work and will not result in extra credit time.•In addition, other extra credit assignments might be given by the teacher throughout the term. However, the teacher is under no obligation to give these extra credit assignments.•The student must understand that this extra credit is a gift, not a right. If this procedure becomes cumbersome for the teacher, or if students are abusing this arrangement, then the extra credit procedures will be terminated at the sole discretion of the teacher without discussion.

Mr. Iglehart’s Office Hours

Unless a meeting or supervision is scheduled, I should be in this room.

You know your child a lot better than I do, so if he/she is having trouble, encourage him/her to come see me sooner rather than later.

Chemistry and Physics . . .

are taught as college preparation courses.

I teach college success tips, tactics, and techniques to help prepare your child (if they are willing to listen and learn).

Skills for college practiced in this class:

Organization: notebook, datebook

Accountability: homework not in on time will earn a zero

Responsibility: textbook, calculator, pencils, and materials brought to class each day

The successful student . . .

of Chemistry and Physics usually spends and average of 15 to 30 minutes each day reading and reviewing the day’s lessons, notes, textbook information, handouts, and laboratory reports.

If what they‘re doing . . .

isn’t working (ie. low test scores, low grades, etc.), your child needs to STOP DOING IT, and try a different approach to learning.

As Parents, . . .

we need to help our kids evaluate their priorities at this stage in their lives.

Our kids can’t do it all AND have it all.

Parents/Guardians can be involved by:

actively supporting the academic efforts of their child

providing a QUIET, stable place and time for study

positively interacting with the classroom teacher and school policies
