Cross-Categorical, competition-based athletics program for students with disabilities that attend Milwaukee Public Schools.

Athlete Eligibility:Between the ages of 6

and 21.Attend an MPS school.Require modifications in

time, equipment, rules in order to effectively and successfully participate in athletics.

School-Based Adaptive Athletics School Responsibilities

Complete and submit paperworkAccurate, Alphabetical Order, and On timeParental permission slips/waivers

Train athletesHold practices whenever possible to get students ready.Promote appropriate warm-ups to prevent injury, the

importance of practicing to improve, etc.Communicate with school nurses.Communicate with CATP work site coordinators.Arrange for worksite transportation.Obtain classroom coverage (if needed).Arrange for bag lunches (if needed).Complete evaluations and give feedback of the program.

School-Based Adaptive Athletics Program Responsibilities

Communicate all event information to coaches.Provide and arrange transportation.Coordinate and facilitate all Adaptive Athletics-

sponsored events.Serve as a resource to assist schools in

understanding the program’s paperwork and training components.

Enter all athlete information, division all participants.Provide event rosters and nametags.Arrange for nursing services at events.Provide as many athletic opportunities for athletes to

participate in as possible.

Training Assistance & Equipment Loaning

Bowling sets must be signed up for by Monday, Sept 16th

All equipment requests are made through Jerry Vance, Resource Assistant at 647-6071 or [email protected]

Training Assistance must be made through Katie Seitz, Assistant Supervisor at 647-3860 or [email protected]

Upon your request, our team of part-time staff (retired MPS PE teachers) will train your school staff and students on sports skills development and skills testing

Each school is eligible for two training assistance appointments which can be scheduled between 9 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (45 minutes to 1 hour session each)

Transportation to Special Olympics events is available.Athletes at schools without a Special Olympics program

School Responsibilities

Help athletes obtain medicals/submit medical paperwork to MPS Adaptive Athletics.

Train athletes regularly.Complete competition paperwork and submit to

MPS Adaptive Athletics.Keep track of signed permission slips.Complete door-to-door transportation requests.Arrange for payment of all invoices.Attain appropriate school uniforms for all

participating athletes.Attend/chaperone all Special Olympics events with

participating athletes.
