PAN Rotating a camera to the
left or right in horizontal
movement.
(turning your head to left/right
before cross a road)
How to do?
Purpose?
To follow a subject or show the
distance between two objects.
Pan shots also work great for
panoramic views such as a shot
from a mountaintop to the valley
below.
3
TILTRotating a camera up or down in vertical
movement.
(like shake your head up/down
Purpose?
Like panning, to follow a subject or to show the top and bottom of a stationary object. With a tilt, you can also show how high something is. For example, a slow tilt up a Giant Sequoia tree shows its grandness and enormity.
Here's a good tip. In general, when you tilt up and shoot an object or a person they look larger and thicker. The subject looks smaller and thinner when you tilt down.
How to do?
DOLLYMoving a camera closer or further from subject
over time.
How to do?
Purpose?
To follow an object smoothly to
get a unique perspective.
You can use wheelchair, because
it has large wheels, rolls smoothly,
and has a seat for a videographer,
works quite well as a dolly, but
you can also use a rolling cart or
even a skateboard.

ZOOMCamera is not moving. But a
change in the lens focal length will give the illusion of moving the camera closer or further away.
Purpose?
To bring objects at a distance
closer to the lens, or to show size
and perspective.
Zooming the lens out gives you
the wide-angle shot and more of
your subject and surrounding
areas are visible.
How to do?
DOLLY ZOOMMoving a camera closer or further from subject over time while simultaneously adjusting the zoom angle to keep the subject the same size in the frame.
How to do?
Purpose?
The shot conveys a real sense of
tension and feeling of vertigo.
It's difficult to smoothly master
this technique.

TRACKING/ TRUCKING
Moving a camera from side to side to a subject.
(like a walking crab)
Purpose?
Like dollying, to follow an object
smoothly to get a unique
perspective.
How to do?
ARCMoving the camera in
circle around the subject.
Purpose?
To reveal new details about the
background that the subject is
standing in front of.
Though a still object would be
best for doing an arc shot or
practicing it, using an arc shot is
actually most effective when
you're shooting a moving subjec

FOLLOWPhysically following the subject at a more or less
constant distance.
Purpose?
an interesting technique however additional equipment will be required to use follow focus.
The follow focus device is a mechanical system which connects onto the lens and can control it.
These follow focus devices often offer an adapter. These can be used for control over the focus of your video camera without touching it. While such devices aren't essential, they do make it easier to record certain types of videos without the risk of knocking the camera when focusing.
