BYOD Questions and Answers Do I have to supply my child with a laptop? There is limited access to school laptops across Years 3 – 6. No child will be excluded from technology inclusive lessons. Parents will choose whether a device will be purchased for school purposes. Why did we introduce BYOD? To supplement the demand for technology needed in a Future-Focused learning environment. How many school laptops are there? Early Stage 1 and Stage 1 – 131 laptops. Stage 2 – 63 laptops Stage 3 – 56 laptops What does my child’s laptop* need? Wireless connectivity (5Ghz dual band wireless) USB port 5 – 6 hour battery life (to be charged at home) *iPads or smartphones are not be allowed to be a substitute for a laptop What does the Department provide through the Web based Student Portal? Office 365* Google Apps eBackpack (cloud based storage facility) Educational links *You will not need to buy the Microsoft Office program as it is already provided through Office 365 and Google Apps What will my child be using the laptop for? Students will be using their BYOD devices for structured technology inclusive guided activities. Including; Project based learning (research) English and Mathematics Development Cyber Safety Digital Literacy Technology skills (Stage appropriate) Communication access (Class Blogs) Where will my child’s device be stored? Devices will be stored in a secure classroom.
