Two Factors that set new direction of thought in the era:

    1. The reaction against Traditional Mentality.

Traditional Mentality refers to the attachment to faith, which was the solebasis of truth.

This was the characteristic thinking of people. They believed thatknowledge of truth and the meaning of existence desired only the

attachment/adherence to faith.Faith or Organized Religion was the ultimate supreme during this era and

everything or everyone church-related were considered powerful.

    So why was the 18th

century considered the Age ofReason, The Age of Science?

Because in the 18th century, Science was introduced and it drastically tookover everything, including faith itself.

The use of the Scientific Method was widespread, and was used in the dailyaspects of life. Because of this great dependency or reliance to Science,Faith got overshadowed and was lost.

The Realm of Science was the new movement of thought in the 18th centuryworld. And from this Age of Reasoning, the 19th century arised.

    EVOLUTION

The idea of Evolution took place in the Realm of Science but wasonly accepted in the 19th century.

This theory was being applied by people to the idea of progress.

People viewed the human society as evolving, which is constantly

    growing and developing.

The idea of evolution made people very anxious about thepossible end to this ever changing world. This caused the feelingof pessimism/negative thinking of this world to grow.

Societal problems such as struggles, upheavals, revolutions, changes, and instability took place during this time. Thus causinginsecurity in the masses.

    CREATIVE EVOLUTION

    - evolution that is a creative product of a vital force such asa God rather than a spontaneous process explicable in termsof scientific laws.

The insecurity among the masses brought about the belief

of Creative Evolution. The changing world has a purpose according to the

advocates of this idea. They believe that the world has onedirection and an end.

The ideas of Evolution, progress and change in this worldare in for a creative end.

The phenomenon of constant change is explained by theidea of a creative end.
