2013-14 School Profile

For the past four years, the National College Board has named the Snoqualmie Valley School District to its AP District Honor Roll—for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Place-ment (AP) coursework while increasing student performance on AP exams. SVSD, and specifically Mount Si High School, is the ONLY school district in Washington State to earn this four years in a row!

Mount Si High School

earned a place on the

U.S. News & World

Report’s 2013 Best High

Schools list, earning a

Silver Medal among

schools nationwide.

Academic Programs

More students are taking more Advanced Placement (AP) college-prep classes than ever. One hundred Mount Si students were named 2013 AP Scholars for earning high scores on multiple AP exams the previous spring! The number of students recognized for this impres-sive achievement nearly doubled this year. (In 2012, 58 students were named as AP scholars, and 29 were recognized in 2011.) Currently, Mount Si High School offers 20 college-level AP courses, plus 4 additional AP subjects are available through the Mount Si Online Program. This fall, student enrollment filled 865 seats in AP classes with many students taking multiple AP subjects at once.

The Mount Si Online Program, established in 2010, offers online opportunities and more than a hundred accredited classes to meet the changing learning needs of students. A certificated teacher coordinates the program and offers onsite support.

Career and Technical Education (CTE) exemplifies the intentional synthesis of technical knowledge, traditional academics, and 21st Century skills. Programs such as: Culinary Arts, Construction Trades, Sports Medicine, Game Design/Robotics, Digital Media, Engineering & Design, Criminal Justice, Forensic Science, and Horticulture are just a few of the options students may explore at Mount Si.

Enhanced STEM programming provides a model for integrating Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) instruction in preparation for 21st Century careers. Last year, Introduction to Computer Science and AP Computer Science were offered in partner-ship with Microsoft’s Technology Education And Literacy in Schools (TEALS) program, where technology professionals co-teach the classes with a Mount Si teacher. This year, new STEM courses offered at the Freshman Campus include: The Big History Project, Introduction to Engineering Design I&II (Project Lead the Way) & AP Human Geography.

Mount Si’s Freshman Campus, opened in 2013 to offer extra support to all 9th graders to ensure their successful transition to high school, expand STEM education, and alleviate crowding on the main campus.

University Partnership Programs enable students to earn college credit while in high school:

University of Washington: Astronomy 101

Central Washington University Cornerstone Program: Pre Calculus, AP Calculus, Physics

Bellevue College: 127 MSHS students are currently being served through Running Start in 2013-14, and select CTE courses qualify for credit through Bellevue College & Lake Washington Institute of Technolo-
