Mommy, Mama, Mayiwhatever an endearingterm we call her, it defi-

nitely points to one and onlyfigure, our mother. A personthat no one in this world canlive without. With her nurtur-ing nature and undying love

she exudes in many wonderfulways that make us feel that wetruly belong.

Without her, life would be anempty space that no one couldfill up. It is like being lost andwandering aimlessly withoutany right direction or purpose.Her beautiful soul is indeed agood example for us to serve,accomplish and persevere.

Finely described as a won-derful woman, so gentle yetso strong. She is known forher absolute patience, thoughfoolishness arises within herchildren. The great teacher thatgives you guidance wheneverone needs or asks for it. And atrue friend and confidant, whois the fountain head of comfort,a cushion when we fall and thebest source of hope and inspi-ration in times of strife.

In my13 years of lifes jour-ney with my mother, we hadour times togetherencoun-tered joy and sorrow. With thepower of two, we conquered allthe confusing obstacles in lifethrough cooperation and root-

ed emotional support. With mydad working abroad, my momdid her best to stand by me andmade our home a good placeto live in for the whole family.I was greatly amazed at howshe could do multiple thingsat the same time and came outperfectly in shape.

When I was younger, I eventhought she had a sort of magicalpower that enabled her to do nu-merous things with ease and ex-cellence. Whenever I had schoolactivities, she never missed anyof them and she always cheered

me on. She is my critic and mygreatest teacher, as she points outlovingly my shortfalls and lavishlypraises my good points.

Every time I see her happyface, I do every bit that I canto make her very proud of me.For every wrong that I do, she

patiently disciplines me andreminds to always try to doright. I cannot forget her lines:We are unique from eachother, an individuality that wehave to respect. I have my ownway of bringing you up, a waythat only the mother in me canunderstand by heart.

She is my inspiration. I hopeto soon succeed in life so that I

can lavish her with all the loveand spoiling she deserves. Sheis indeed a phenomenal motherthat every daughter would beproud of and look up to.

As I develop into a woman,I sometimes disagree with mymother, but we always come upto a middle ground as I listenintently some words of wis-dom from my mom and realisethings as she too, listens to mywoes and angst of growing up.

With her tender love andsoothing stroke of my hair, mypains and fears totally vanish. I

proudly describe my mother asa patient, loving, responsible,and hardworking, a womanof wit and integrity. She is awoman worth appreciating andwell-loved. No wonder a dayis specially commemorated forher greatness. Mothers Day

is celebrated today in honourof our mothers who serve aspositive contributors to ourfamilies and society at large.

(NPL) introduced a corporatesocial responsibility initiativeMothers Day Fun Run, to con-tribute towards the promotionof quality healthcare services inthe country.

The Fun Run promotes safemotherhood in Malawi andbenefits government hospitalsand health centres in districtswith the highest maternal andinfant mortality rates.

Every year, NPL employees,their project partners, commu-

nities and other well-wishersbrave the sweltering heat ofOctober to run for the lives ofmothers and children.

This year, Rumphi DistrictHospital, David Gordon Me-

morial Hospital, Chitimba andKatowo health centres havebenefited from the project.

Through its partners andsponsors, NPL mobilisedhealthcare items worth overK18 million.

One of the items donated

include the resuscitaire thatRumphi District Hospital isshort of. Each resuscitairecosts about K2.2 million.

Since its launch in 2005,NPL has mobilised over K60

million worth of maternalhealthcare items from variousstrategic partners, sponsorsand individuals for health insti-tutions in the country.

Going forward, NPL plansto run for lives of children andmothers in all districts. n
