GOSPEL MEDITATION
If you brought your chi ld to the res troom during the Li turgy of the Word, you might walk away with one of two in terpretat ions of Jesus as King . The f irs t and second readings are bold and victorious. We see Chr is t coming on the clouds for the f inal judgment of heaven and earth . The Gospel sets a very dif ferent tone. Jesus is under a rres t and fac-ing death before Pontius P i la te . We know how th is s tory wil l end. So if Chris t i s King, what does i t mean? Is he a glorious conqueror or a suffer ing servant? "My k ingdom does no t belong to this wor ld. " Here is the hear t of Jesus ' re ign. He is a king -- and his "sub jects" are a l ive and well on ear th -- but , u l t i -mately, Jesus ' k ingdom transcends our ear th ly con-cepts of power. Jesus faced down the temptat ion of a solely earth ly kingship. At the c lose of his 40 days in the desert , the devil offe red him the king-doms of the world. Jesus only had to sacrif ice his heavenly va lues and worship Satan. The same temptat ions to dis tor t the kingship of Chris t are present to us today. Jesus ' invi ta t ion also endures . "Everyone who belongs to the truth l i s tens to my voice." It is important for us to belong to the ful l t ruth of Chr is t 's k ingdom.
First , our own hearts mus t be transformed. Our own rebel l ions in favor of self i shness and against holiness must be conquered by God 's grace. Sec-ond, we must work to t ransform the wor ld as best we can in our own corner of i t . Like Jesus shows us by his l i fe and death, th is doesn ' t mean domina-t ion. It means service, sacrif ice , respec t , and love. Our l ives must " test i fy to the tru th" of Jesus Chris t , who lays down his l i fe for his people . That is the t rue beauty of Chris t the King!
MEDITACIÓN EVANGÉLICA
En este úl t imo domingo del Tiempo Ordinario . Se escuchará en las parroquias de los Es tados Unidos y del mundo entero el canto de alabanza a Nuestro Señor Jesucr is to Rey del Universo. Se-guido por e l gr i to de los f ie les: ¡Viva Cr is to Rey! Con la respuesta que sale desde el fondo del corazón: ¡Que viva! En es te día , como cris -t ianos, debemos de profundizar en el s ignif icado de vivi r en los planes de Dios. ¿Cuál es e l p lan de Dios? Simplemente , es hacer posible e l re ino de amor, just ic ia y paz aquí y ahora. La lec tura de Daniel explica cómo Jesucris to es e l portador de este Reino, que nunca será destru ido. El Apocalipsis , nos dice que Cris to Jesús es e l Rey de Reyes.
El Evangel io , con respecto al Reino, narra lo siguien te: "Tú lo has dicho: yo soy Rey. Yo doy test imonio de la verdad, y para esto he nacido y he ven ido al mundo. Todo el que es tá del lado de la verdad escucha mi voz" (Juan 18:37) . Que confusión para P i la to porque Jesús no parecía Rey, n i actuaba como tal . Sin embargo, s i confie -sa que su Reino no pertenece a es te mundo. Por eso da test imonio de la verdad. Su Reino es c la -ro: luchar por e l amor y la just ic ia . ¿Escuchamos esto? Vivimos y actuamos en este Reino o fuera de él . La Antífona de entrada de es ta Solemnidad dice: "Digno es e l Cordero que fue inmolado , de recibir e l poder , la r iqueza, la sabidur ía , la fuer -za y el honor. A él la gloria y e l imper io por los s iglos de los s ig los . " Amén. ¡Viva Cr is to Rey! ¿Quién es Jesús para mí?

Something NEW at Mother of Christ! Starting on
Sunday, December 2nd, we will begin our own
Children’s Liturgy of the Word at the Sunday 10:30 Mass.
The goal is to help children listen to God’s message in a way that is more understandable for them. This will ensure that both children and parents make the most of their individual liturgical experiences. At the 10:30am Sunday l i turgy, just before the first reading is proclaimed ,
the priest or a member of the ministry will invite all children to come to the front of the church. The group will then leave the sanctuary and go to their own prayer space. This will be at the school's classrooms. The children will then hear one or more of the Sunday readings and participate in conversation and prayer centered on the message of the day. They will pray their own General Intercessions. Finally they will be escorted back into the church before the Liturgy of the Eucharist. Children from Kindergarten to fourth grade attending Mass, whether they attend our CCD or School or are visiting are welcome to join. We also welcome one parent who wish to accompany a child until he/she feels comfortable attending by themselves. It is important to remember that this isn’t a religion “lesson” but it is really a time for prayer and hearing the Word of God. The primary purpose is to provide children with a focused environment where they are more likely to become conscious, active listeners and responders to God ’s Word.
