Biography of Fr. Sebastian Vincent Savarimuthu
I am Father Sebastian Vincent Savarimuthu, born on June 25th 1985 in Thondaimhan Nallur. It is a small village, in the southern part of India. My mother is still alive but I lost my father recently. We are four siblings (two boys and two girls) I am the third one. My elder sister has two girls and my brother has two boys and my younger sister lives with my mother.
I completed my school studies in 2003 and since I have desired to become priest for a long time, joined the Order of the Heralds Of the Good News on June 6th 2004. Heralds of Good News is a Missionary Society of Apostolic Life, started in Eluru diocese, India. The specific aim of the Society is the promotion of vocations to priesthood, the training of seminarians and the supply of zealous and hardworking missionaries to the dioceses in India and abroad which experience a shortage of priests due to the lack of local vocations. In 2010 I completed my philosophical studies and after one year of pastoral year I was sent to Tanzania to do my theological studies in 2011 to 2015. On November 29th 2014, I was ordained as Deacon and in June 13th 2015 I was ordained as Priest and shortly after I was appointed as assistant headmaster of the higher secondary school in Tanzania. After 4 months I was asked to help in the diocese of Ifakara St. Andrew Cathedral parish as a parochial vicar for one year and a month, and I was asked by the order to move to the new parish St. Rafael the Arch Angel in the Arch Diocese of Dar es Salaam, I worked there 2 years and 6 months and then I was asked to come here the Archdiocese of Seattle. I was assigned to St. Jude Parish in Redmond and Holy Innocent in Duvall, then took up residence at St. Anthony Parish. I received a temporary assignment to St. Jerome in Ocean Shores and then received the parish priest assignment at St. Madeleine Sophie. My favorite part of being a priest is to share God’s love.
Next week, please welcome our new Parochial Vicar,
Fr. Sebastian!

A Quotation from Pope Francis
“Inequality is the root of social evil.”
Wednesday, July 15 is the festival of Bonaventure, Franciscan, bishop, Doctor of the Church. Bonaventure
was born in 1221. He was a scholastic theologian and philosopher, joining the Franciscans in 1257. This was at a
time when the Order suffered from divisions, which he was able to do much to heal. Later, he was named cardinal
bishop of Albano. Bonaventure died in 1274 and was declared a Doctor of the Church in 1588 by Pope Sixtus V.
He is called the “Seraphic Doctor” because his love of God is so evident, even in his philosophical writings. When
the Council of Lyons was called to bring the Greek and Latin churches back together, Bonaventure went at the
request of Pope Gregory X, but he died before the Council’s work was finished. He received the Sacrament of the
Sick from the pope himself. Bonaventure is the patron of those who suffer with intestinal and colon disorders.
Please Note: RCIA Information will be forthcoming at the end of July. If you or someone you
know is interested in receiving the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Eucharist and Confirmation,
please call the Pastoral Center for more information. Thank You!
It is our responsibility and privilege to pray every day for our Holy Father Francis. During this time of struggle and turmoil in our world, let us lift him up in prayer as he leads by example and teaching the way of life we are called to live, as followers of Our Lord Jesus Christ, especially during this month of the Sacred Heart.
Prayer for Pope Francis O God, Shepherd and Ruler of the faithful, look favorably on Your servant Francis,
whom You have set at the head of Your Church as her shepherd; grant, we pray, that by word and example
he may be of service to those over whom he presides so that,
together with the flock entrusted to his care, he may come to everlasting life. Lord Jesus, shelter our Holy Father, Pope Francis under the protection of Your Sacred Heart.
Be his light, his strength and his consolation. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son,
who lives and reigns with You in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen+
Tuesday, July 14 is the festival of Kateri Tekakwitha, virgin. Born in 1656, Kater i was the daughter of a
Mohawk warrior and Catholic Algonquin woman. She was born in a Mohawk fortress near Auriesville,
New York. Her parents and brother died in a small pox epidemic and she was left with scars and
weakened eyesight. Kateri’s mother had made an impression on her and she was baptized on Easter
Sunday in 1676. Her conversion to Christianity caused her relatives to mistreat her and so Kateri fled to
a community of North American Christians at Kahnawake, Quebec. Kateri died in 1680 at the age of 24.
She is called “Lily of the Mohawks,” and was canonized October 21, 2012, by Pope St. John Paul II. She is the first
Native American to be so honored. Katei Tekakwitha is the patron of Native Americans and Catechumens studying
for full initiation into the Roman Catholic faith.
Thursday, July 16 is the festival of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Mount Carmel is par t of a moun-
tain range in northern Israel, significant to Christians for its biblical association with the prophet Elijah.
In the 12th century, the Carmelites were founded at a site that is supposed to have been Elijah’s cave and
soon built a monastery there. For this reason, the Carmelites honor the Blessed Virgin Mary under the
title Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The English Carmelite, St. Simon Stock, is believed to have been given
the brown scapular by Our Lady and those who wear it believe they can be sure of her help at the hour of
their death.
TREE OF LIFE There are several golden leaves available on either tree at the back of the church as a lasting memorial of a loved one. Cost of the leaf is $250.00. The leaf may be paid for all at once, or over a period of time. When the leaf is paid in full, it will be engraved with the information you give us and installed in the area you have chosen. If you are interested, please contact John at the Pastoral Center for details. Money received for your leaf will be used for maintenance, repair, and the ongoing expense of the Restoration project. Thank you and God bless!
