It is with heavy hearts that we announce Fr. Steve will be leaving Most Holy Trinity Parish at the end of June.
We will be welcoming Fr. Timothy Okeahialam as our new Pastor on July 1.
Getting To Know Fr. Timothy
I am Fr. Timothy Chigoziem Okeahialam. I am from the Eastern part of Nigeria. I came to the diocese of Pueblo in January 2019 at the invitation of Bishop Berg. I am presently working at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Grand Junction, Colorado as the Parochial Vicar. I had my priestly training in Nigeria at Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu. After my graduation in June 2002, I was ordained (with nine others) on August 3rd 2002 for the Catholic diocese of Ahiara Mbaise, Nigeria. Before coming over to the diocese of Pueblo, I have carried out some pastoral duties in different capacities in my home diocese. Namely; a). Associate Pastor at St. Joseph’s Parish, Ogbor Nguru ---------------2002 to 2004.
b). Associate Pastor at Christ the King Parish, Okpofe ------------------2004 to 2005.
c). Formator at our diocesan minor seminary ----------------------------2005 to 2007.
d). Pastor at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Umunagbor Amagbor Ihitte --2007 to 2008.
e). Principal of our diocesan Co-educational secondary school - Pope John Paul II Model Secondary
School, Umunagbor Amagbor Ihitte -----------2008 to 2019(Jan.).
During the course of these assignments, I was able to further my academic life at the post-graduate level in the fields of Education (MA) and Philosophy (PhD). I come from a family of eight – two girls and six boys. I am the seventh child and the fifth boy in the family. By the grace of God, two of the boys are Catholic Priests – an elder brother and myself. I love sports, especially soccer, athletics and ping pong (table tennis). I speak Igbo (my local language) and English (our lingua franca). I remain grateful to Bishop Berg for giving me the opportunity to serve in Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Trinidad and its missions of St. Ignatius in Segundo and St. Isidore in Vigil-Stonewall. I promise to give my unalloyed service to the people of God for the good and salvation souls. Remain blessed.
Fr. Tim.
A Quotation from Pope Francis
“No one is more patient than God the Father:
No one understands and knows how to wait as much as He does.”
Today is the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity—our Patronal Feast The celebration of this feast dates to the 7th century and has been on the Church’s universal calendar for nearly 700 years. “The mystery of the Most Holy Trinity is the central mystery of Christian faith and life. It is the mystery of God in himself. It is therefore the source of all the other mysteries of faith, the light that enlightens them.: As Christians, we believe in one God, in three Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Through the cen-turies, saints and artists have helped us to understand the Holy Trinity through images and comparisons. Patrick is said to have explained the Trinity to the people of Ireland by showing them a shamrock, with its three leaves on one stem. Ignatius Loyola compared the Trinity to a chord played on an instrument: three distinct notes forming one sound. A familiar symbol of the Trinity is a triangle with rays radiating from it and in the middle of the triangle an open eye, representing the all-seeing Providence of God. The Trinity is about relationships: “The Father is Love, the Son is grace and the Holy Spirit is their beloved fellowship.” The Trinity is God’s truth: “The Father utters the Truth, the Son is the Truth that is uttered and the Holy Spirit is Truth.”
Happy Feast to our parish family—may the Most Holy Trinity bless each of you abundantly!
The Blessed Trinity—All Three are Co-Eternal One of the errors that we must guard against in our thinking about the Holy Trinity is this: We must NOT think of God the Father as having “come first” and God the Son a little later and God the Holy Spirit later still. All three are equally eternal, possessing as they do one Divine nature.
“For there is one Person of the Father; another of the Son and another of the Holy [Spirit].
But the Godhead of the Father, of the Son and of the Holy ]Spirit], is all one;
the Glory equal, the Majesty coeternal.” --From the Athanasian Creed
The Holy Trinity (One God—Three Divine Persons)
This is the internal life of the Most Blessed Trinity—God knowing,
God known and God-loving and-loved. Three divine Persons, each
distinct from the other two in relationship to each of the others and
yet possessing one and the same divine nature, possessing that
nature, too. In absolute unity. Since they possess no subordination
of one to the other, God the Father is not wiser than God the Son.
God the Son is not more powerful than God the Holy Spirit…The
three divine Persons not only are united in one divine nature; they
also are united in each other. Each one of them is in each of the
others in an inseparable unity—where one is, all are. This
inseparable unity of the three divine Persons—in case you are
interested in theological terms—is called “circumincession.”
Thursday, June 11 is the festival of Barnabas, Apostle. Although Barnabas (1st century) was not one of the original
Twelve Apostles, he was given the title of “Apostle” by Luke and the early Church fathers, due to his apostolic endeavors
on behalf of Christianity. His original name was Joseph, but the Apostles gave him the surname Barnabas, meaning “son
of encouragement,” probably due to his friendly disposition. Together with Paul, he extended the missionary efforts of
the Church beyond Jerusalem to Antioch and after much success moved on to other places throughout Asia Minor. After
parting ways with Paul over issues regarding circumcision and the Mosaic Law, Barnabas embarked on further
missionary journeys with John Mark. Tradition indicates Barnabas was stoned to death and his remains were taken to
Constantinople where a church stands in his honor. His intercession is sought during hailstorms.
Saturday, June 13 is the festival of Anthony of Padua, Franciscan, priest, Doctor of the Church. Born in 1195,
Anthony (baptized Ferdinand) was a member of a noble Portuguese family. He joined the Canons Regular of St.
Augustine at a young age, but later left and joined the Franciscans to engage in missionary work. Although his
missionary dreams were halted due to illness, he received public acclaim for his preaching, which led to the conversion
of many from heresy. He had the privilege of meeting St. Francis of Assisi in person and was later elected Provincial of
Northern Italy. His writing is extensive, especially in the area of sermons; earning him the title Doctor of the Church.
He died in 1231. Anthony is the patron of lost items. This comes from the story in his biography when a young novice
took Anthony’s prayer book, but returned it in a hurry when Anthony angrily appeared to the novice in a vision!!
TREE OF LIFE There are several golden leaves available on either tree at the back of the church as a lasting memorial of a loved one. Cost of the leaf is $250.00. The leaf may be paid for all at once, or over a period of time. When the leaf is paid in full, it will be engraved with the information you give us and installed in the area you have chosen. If you are interested, please contact John at the Pastoral Center for details. Money received for your leaf will be used for maintenance, repair, and the ongoing expense of the Restoration project. Thank you and God bless!
