Consultancy assignments undertaken1. Analysis and Interpretation of baseline results conducted by the Central Bureau of

Statistics (CBS), Nairobi Kenya. 29th August – Present. The overall objective of thisassignment was to analyse baseline data of the Arid Lands Resource Management Project II andto produce an operational database which measured the key impact measures of projectsuccess. The data collected was from 11 Arid (Turkana, Samburu, Isiolo, Marsabit, Mandera,Moyale, Wajir, Garissa, Tana River, Baringo, Ijara)and 11 Semi-Arid (Laikipia, Tharaka, Mbere,Mwingi, Makueni, Kitui, Kajiado, Narok, Transmara, West Pokot, Nyeri (Kieni West and KieniEast))districts. I was the Team Leader and served as the computer expert in this assignment. Mytasks were database management, data analysis, and logistics. I was also in charge of reportwriting and presentation, and resource management. I also served as the Project Manager duringthe first month of the award of this assignment.

2. Mumias Sugar Company Ltd. Sugarcane Transport Cane Yard Operations study, Kenya.July 2005 – present. A consultancy undertaken to study and recommend the optimal transportand cane yard operational systems for Mumias Sugar Company. The main objective of theSugarcane Transport and Cane Yard Operations Study was to study the operations the MumiasSugar Company’s (MSC) and cane handling operations, identify the inherent bottlenecks andpropose an improved systems for handling the sugarcane from the fields to the feed tables. Torealize this stated objective, it was necessary to: (i) Study the operations of the Cane Yard andthe cane handlings operations at the field. (ii)Identify the factors that influence the field and CaneYard operations. (iii) Measure the pertinent parameters of the factors that are necessary todetermine the effect of the identified factors on the sugarcane transportation, and Cane Yardsugarcane flow and handling operations (iv) Analyse the data and develop a computer programfor simulating the MSC’s sugarcane transportation system and the sugarcane flow in the CaneYard. (v) Design experiments that to answer ‘what-if’ type questions and to help arrive at asuitable sugarcane transportation and Cane Yard handling system for MSC; and (vi) Conductsimulation experiments using the developed model and recommend the best suited sugarcanehandling system for optimizing the MSC sugarcane handling operations. I was the leadconsultant and the Team Leader in this assignment. I also performed the duties of the projectmanager.
