Talent Show! Our annual talent show was a blast! We had some amaz-

ing talents shared including singing, acting, and dancing with attitude. Our judges were Cheryl, Lindsay, Jennifer and Lolita. Everyone who participated received a fun gift. It was very tough to choose the top three places, but the honors go to: third place winner Elizabeth Wilson with her dancing talents, second place winner Jamie Penning-ton with her beautiful voice, and first place winners Chris Lasster and Rogenta Williams who strutted their stuff to Michael Jackson.

We all had a great time and are looking forward to next year’s show.

their face each and every day.

CQL’s Basic Assurances demonstrate Mosaic’s commitment to quality

The Council on Quality and Leadership’s Basic Assur-ances has 10 factors that help ensure that Mosaic’s standards of quality do not fall short of excellent.

This month we are focusing on factor one, which focuses on rights protection and promotion. This factor determines how well the organization implements policies and proce-dures that promote people’s rights and has systems in place to support people to exercise their rights and responsibilities. The organization’s staff must be trained to honor people’s rights. Mosaic in Northeast Kansas has an active Human Rights Committee to uphold due process requirements and has systems in place to support people’s decision making as needed. If you have any questions or comments regarding quality at Mosaic, please call us at 913.788.8400.

As many of you know, 2013 is the centennial anniversary for Mosaic. The theme of our Centennial is “A Century of Service, a Legacy of Love.” This theme reflects the call heard by our founders to serve people with disabilities. Through-out this year, Mosaic in Northeast Kansas has held several events to commemorate the milestone including an open house, a Mosaic quiz testing our knowledge on all that is Mosaic, and even a cookbook compiled of recipes by staff and people in service! In addition, our own Thad Livingston sang at the Centennial Festival in Axtell, Nebraska in June and, as always, moved everyone who had the opportunity to hear his beautiful voice.

In September, I participated in National Direct Support Professionals Week where we recognized our direct support staff for their commitment and support to the people we serve at Mosaic. In addition, I visited with all of our Host Home Providers and the people they have brought into their lives and families. It has been so uplifting to talk with all

of these wonderful people who bring their passion, experience and commitment to Mosaic everyday. In these conversations, I find myself so honored that they want to be a part of Mosaic in North-east Kansas and grateful to all of them for all of their dedica-tion to the people we serve.

As I reflect on these events and Mosaic’s rich history of service, I am blessed to be a part of an organization which lives its mission to create a life of possibilities for people with intellectual disabilities every day, and for the staff who have chosen to continue Mosaic’s legacy of love into our second century of service.
