Announcements Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a national campaign launched by Teaching Tolerance over a decade ago. Its goal is to encourage students to identify, question and cross social boundaries. In surveys collected by Teaching Tolerance, students have identified the cafeteria as the place where divisions are most clearly drawn. So on Tuesday, October 22nd – we are asking students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple act with profound implications. Studies have shown that interactions across group lines can help reduce prejudice. When students interact with those who are different from them, biases and misperceptions can fall away. Join the ERASE Club tomorrow as we Mix It Up at Lunch and help us fulfill our second activity for No Place For Hate! ATTENTION WINTER SPORTS ATHLETES: WINTER sports will be here soon so make sure you have all your paperwork into the Health Office on time. Please submit all paperwork by OCTOBER 30th. Sports physicals will be held here on October 31st. If you would like to be scheduled for a school physical, please make an appointment in the Health Office. ¡Hola! Stay Drug Free.™ The theme is a call to action to speak out in support of healthy choices. It is also a reminder that by staying drug free, you are sending a message to yourself and others about how much you value yourself, your overall health, your community and your future. Make sure to wear something red on Wednesday, October 23rd to show your support for a drug-free America. Join the ERASE Club on Tuesday, October 22nd as we Mix It Up at Lunch and help us fulfill our second activity for No Place For Hate! In 1982, Ileana Ros-Lehtinen became the first Hispanic woman and the first Cuban American to be elected to the U.S. Congress. Ros-Lehtinen was born in Havana, Cuba. However, when she was just 7 years old, her family was forced to flee Cuba because of Communist forces. The Republican congresswoman strongly opposed Communism and Cuba, and is a strong advocate for human rights around the world. Today concludes Hispanic Heritage Month. Thank you for celebrating with the ERASE Club! The PSAT will be administered at WPHS tomorrow. Please listen carefully to the following reminders: 1. Registered students should arrive to school no later than 8:00AM and report directly to their testing room. 2. Room assignments will be posted on the windows outside of Central Office and the wall outside of Guidance Office by Friday, October 11th. 3. Testing will begin promptly. Students who arrive late will not be admitted. 4. Bring #2 pencils, erasers, and calculators. 5. Leave all cell phones, handheld devices, smart watches, headphones, and all electronics in your locker or at home. There will be a brief, but important meeting for all of those interested in swimming for the Park Swim Team this season. The meeting will be on Thursday, October 24, at 2:45 in the cafeteria. The newspaper club will be meeting this Friday in room 104 after school. Hope to see you there! The newspaper club will be meeting this afternoon in room 104 after school. Hope to see you there!
