Dear STM families, We have hit the ground running! This past week we had a band concert and got to try out band instruments in preparation of getting our school band underway. This coming Monday night you can come to the school at 6:30 PM to sign up your child for the band. Our Cross Country team had their first meet to start off their season. This Monday is their first home meet at Wing Park at 4 PM. We hope you can join us to cheer them on! Our girls’ volleyball teams have had their first games to begin their season and they are off to an excellent start. We also held Student Council board candidate speeches today in preparation for the elections next week. We are off to a great start of a fabulous school year! Last Tuesday STM’s band instructor, Rebecca Rome, and her associates from Music Education Service performed a concert for the school. The concert highlighted the instruments students can play as part of the STM band. 4th to 8th grade students had the opportunity to try them on Wednesday. Both events helped students decide about joining the band program. Students who participate in the band perform in at least three concerts a year, and can participate in a solo and ensemble festival, an honors band concert, and various social activities. The program is an incredible extracurricular offered at STM!

STM girls’ volleyball season started this past week. The girls are off to a phenomenal start! Please see the girls’ match schedule here to join us for a game and cheer them on!

Have you seen the latest addition to STM? As efforts continue to update the school, students have new lockers! Students in 5th to 8th grades now have beautiful red lockers to store their belongings. If you have not seen them yet, check them out next time you are in the building.

1. Labor Day is the first Monday in September. Take time to write

a note or give a small gift to someone who works hard for your

community (or for your family).

2. Learn about Saint Teresa of Calcutta. Saints can seem like people

from long ago to children. Talk to them about Saint Teresa of Calcutta

(including when she lived and died), her work, and her writings as a

way to show children that even modern day people can be saints. Her

3. Grandparents Day is the first Sunday (September 8th) after Labor

Day. Help your children do something special for their grandparents

or plan to spend the day with them, if possible.

4. Bring your backpack to church on September 15th for a backpack

blessing and a tag! Invite your friends!

5. September 23rd marks the Feast of Padre Pio. He is our patron

for the 2019/20 year. Try making farfalle ala pio for a special dinner

6. Donate to the less fortunate. Look around your room, house,

or pantry for items or food to donate in honor of the feast day

of St. Vincent de Paul on September 27th.

7. Be a peacemaker. Do something nice for someone that you

sometimes argue with in honor of the feast day of St. Wenceslaus,

which is on September 28th.

8. Learn about prayer with Fr. Browning. Wednesday, September 18th

at 6:00pm or Sunday, September 22nd at 1:00pm.

9. Make bread. Jesus is the Bread of Life. Pick out your favorite bread

recipe and have your children help you make it.
