The Vital Role of the EU

in order to reach the 0.7% by 2015. An additional 20 billion euros of aid!

The EU’s contribution to health ODA
• Of the US$ 55.7 billion committed to ODA by the EU collectively in 2005,
US$ 3.5 billion was allocated to health (6.2%).
• In order to meet the 0.1% target, the EU would need to provide health ODA of US $ 13.5 billion by 2007 and US$ 19.1 billion in 2015.

The European Commission and health
• EC in key position: 20% of overall allocation of EU ODA. Largest coverage of partner countries.
• US$ 421 million disbursed as health ODA in 2005. In order to meet the 0.1% target, the EC would need to provide health ODA of US$ 1.3 billion in 2007 and US$ 1.9 billion in 2015.
