A Mentor Moment:

February is supposed to be the month of love – if there is such a thing, where everywhere you turn there are hearts and glitter and pink and red roses, followed by cliché quotes like “All you need is love”…. Pardon my valley girl colloquialism, but “Gag me with a spoon!” (If you are wondering, yes I did grow up in the Valley… in the 80’s. I did not, however, use that expression.)

While gushy, mushy, love, hearts and ooey-gooey feelings are fun and all that… it isn’t what love is about. Love is, after all, dig your heels in, nails bleeding, hanging on for dear life, determination and grit sometimes. It’s when you hear the sound of your husband breathing, and you don’t smother him with a pillow. It’s picking up his clothes, making his dinner, listening to him ramble on about work and football… or whatever. It’s 99% routine, 1% ro-mance? Maybe, if you’re lucky. Sometimes, that 1% can be used as other adjectives. Use whatever fits your life.

Back when I was in college, one of my professors said that men want adoration while women want attention. This is a insightful fact that I have found to be quite helpful.

So… if you’ve found that your marriage has been lacking in the “romance” department, (i.e. he isn’t paying attention to you…) I say make a list. Make a list of everything that you like about your husband. Does he work hard? Is he a good dad? Is he nice to your mother? Did he put the dishes in the dishwasher? Did he put the toilet seat down? Etc., it doesn’t matter how small a job or how insignificant if might seem. Make the list. And then tell him. Tell him you appreciate him. That he’s that great, big strong guy that goes out there every day to face dragons and bears to bring home the bacon… and then comes home at night to help put the kids to bed. No matter how hard your day is, remember that a guy’s job is hard too. It might be more difficult than a girl’s job. In this age of feminism, God made them to be the head of the household, and the provider…. Those are things that I’m glad that aren’t my responsibility.

And remember what love truly is…. I Corinthians 13:4-8

Are You Interested In Joining Our Leadership Team:

Spring is just around the corner, and before we know it May will be here. It may seem early, but it is time to start thinking about next year. Below is a list of the various positions/committees on the leadership team and their descrip-tions for the MOPS website. If feel called to help lead our group or have questions about a particular position, please speak with Malaina or the person holding the position for more information and/or questions about the time commit-ment involved. Coordinator: You set the tone by preparing your leaders, planning your meetings and welcoming moms. You help develop your MOPS groups’ story and want every mom’s story to include knowing Jesus. Take a look around and find lots of ideas to build yourself, your team and your group. Examples of specific responsibilities include: Leading Steering team meetings to plan MOPS meetings, scheduling speakers, facilitating MOPS meetings. Because this position coordi-nates with our home church, Richland Baptist Church, this position must be a member of Richland Baptist Church. (Malaina) Registration: Spreadsheets make you happy. You keep the group, and its leaders on track. Examples of specific re-sponsibilities include: Registering all moms with MOPS International, tracking attendance, creating/maintaining Photo Directory, nametags, address labels, etc. (Melissa R.) Finance: You can do magical things with a calculator and a spare few minutes. Your group reveres your way with num-bers. Because this position coordinates the finances and budget of our MOPS group with Richland Baptist Church, this position must be a member of Richland Baptist Church. (currently unfilled) Hospitality: Hugs and brunch may be your native language. You know that a cozy atmosphere and a yummy meal have the power to heal. Good food, cute decorations and fun icebreakers are just part of what you do. The moment a woman walks through the door of your MOPS group she feels that you have created a place especially for her. The tone you set welcomes women and keeps them coming back! Examples of specific responsibilities include: welcoming new members to MOPS, coordinating meal plans, sending birthday cards and make members feel welcome at our group. (currently unfilled) Publicity: Your creative efforts and sparkly words help to spread the word about all of the fun to be had at MOPS. You also help spread the vision of MOPS throughout the church that supports your MOPS group. There are moms who are secretly hoping for a group of women to share life with so get out your mega phone and make someone’s day. The Publicity chairs are responsible for the newsletter, as well as publicity in the community. (Heather) Table Leaders (Discussion Group Leaders): You know that having a safe space to spill your guts is valuable and hard to find. Trust and honesty are your anthem. You have made it your goal to go about leading your group discussions by asking great questions and cultivating transparent moments. The table leaders must be strong in their Christian faith and open in their heart, as they help guide discussions and coordinate their tables. Table Leaders need to be willing to be their table’s ambassador to the group, making sure members are aware of meetings and outside activities, helping grow relationships, and making all the women at their table welcome. Specific examples of responsibilities include: setting up tables Sunday evening, taking down tables after the meeting, meeting monthly outside of MOPS, calling their table members to remind them of meetings and events, and providing a welcoming environment for their table mem-bers. (Bobbi, Kim B., Cody, Heidi, Jolene, and Stacy) (Continued on next page)

Creative Activities: The local craft store is on your speed dial and you thank God every day for the invention of Modge Podge. Creating comes naturally to you and you thrive on finding new ways to help your MOPS group make beautiful things together. The Creative Activities Chairs develop and coordinate the craft projects for meetings, including determining what the craft is, getting supplies for the craft, setting up the craft, presenting the craft to the group, and coordinating with the Coordinator regarding the supplies and budget for our crafts. (Natalia) Moppets Coordinator: Kids are some of your favorite people and you believe that the best lessons involve play dough and finger paint. Letting kids know that God loves them makes your day. Moppets Coordinator makes sure that the MOPPETS program runs smoothly and finds and coordinates the MOPPETS workers to make sure the MOP-PETS are well taken care of. (Melissa A) Service: Making the world a better place one project at a time. Your gift to your group is making connections be-tween need and plenty. Each of your efforts to ease the suffering of another, changes the world in profound ways. Service chairs are responsible for coordinating service act ivies for our group. (currently unfilled) Sunshine (Outside Activities): A girls night out or a fun evening in with your friends is something you look forward to and love planning. Sunshine chairs are responsible for planning, coordinating, attending, publicizing, and occasion-ally hosting the outside activities our moms look forward to all month long. (Lizzy and Julie Z.) Secret Sister Chair: Watching someone receive a gift puts a smile on your face. The secret sister chairs are responsi-ble for planning and coordinating the secret sister program, including matching secret sisters, sending reminders when needed, and making sure the program runs smoothly. (Jennifer S.)
