Installing a Moonlite CS1-TM Focuser with Motor Focus option on a Takahashi Mewlon 180 Page 1 of 3 Revision A, 10 th October 2007 This documents and describes how I fitted a Moonlite CS1-TM with Motor Focus option to my Takahashi Mewlon 180 threaded visual back. The photos and steps described below are how it worked for me, on my ‘scope, during my installation. This “how to” is not authorative advice on doing this. NOTES: The Mewlon 180 is the smallest OTA in the Takahashi Mewlon stable and required the removal of the Finder eyepiece. This is a simple operation, it easily unscrews (see Figure 6). The only tools required were a 1.5mm Allen Key to remove the Tak Focus Knob and a 3mm Allen Key to adjust and lock the Moonlite Focuser angle adjustment grub screw. For the M180, ensure your work surface allows the Focuser end of the OTA to overhang, so the Moonlite Focuser to be rotated 360 O whilst it is being screwed onto the OTA. Make sure you engage both threads of the Tak Focus Shaft when re-fitting the Tak Focus Knob. See Figures 7 & 8 for detail. Figure 1 Figure 2 This is a view of the M180 showing the focuser with the Tak 2” Visual Adapter, Tak 1 ¼ Adapter and Focus Knob fitted. Peel back the rubber sleeve on the Focus Knob, approx ½ way, to reveal 3 grub screws (1.5mm Allen Key). Refer to Figure 7 for close up detail. IMPORTANT: Back off the grub screws sufficiently to clear the internal thread in the Focus Knob body. Figure 3 Figure 4 Unscrew (CCW) the Tak Focus Knob from the Focus Shaft. Here is the Focus Knob removed with the 1.5 mm Allen Key. Here are the Tak Visual Adapters removed from the Tak threaded visual back with the Tak Focus Knob also removed.

This documents and describes how I fitted a Moonlite CS1-TM with Motor Focus option to myTakahashi Mewlon 180 threaded visual back. The photos and steps described below are how it workedfor me, on my ‘scope, during my installation. This “how to” is not authorative advice on doing this.

NOTES: The Mewlon 180 is the smallest OTA in the Takahashi Mewlon stable and required the

removal of the Finder eyepiece. This is a simple operation, it easily unscrews (see Figure 6). The only tools required were a 1.5mm Allen Key to remove the Tak Focus Knob and a 3mm

Allen Key to adjust and lock the Moonlite Focuser angle adjustment grub screw. For the M180, ensure your work surface allows the Focuser end of the OTA to overhang, so

the Moonlite Focuser to be rotated 360O whilst it is being screwed onto the OTA. Make sure you engage both threads of the Tak Focus Shaft when re-fitting the Tak Focus

Knob. See Figures 7 & 8 for detail.

Peel back the rubber sleeve on the Focus Knob, approx ½way, to reveal 3 grub screws (1.5mm Allen Key). Refer toFigure 7 for close up detail.IMPORTANT: Back off the grub screws sufficiently to clearthe internal thread in the Focus Knob body.
