Moon Garden An intarsia design by Borealis Sweaterscapes Finished Sweater Measurements Chest: 39” (41”) Length: 24” (26”) Gauge 4½ stitches/inch by 6 rows/inch, using size 7 needles and working in Stockinette Stitch Yarn - Peace Fleece worsted weight yarn, skeins are 4 oz / 200 yds. 5½ skeins Baikal-Superior Green; 1½ skeins Antarctica White; 1 Grass Roots, 1 Negotiation Grey Equipment Size 5 and size 7 needles; Size 6 short double pointed needles, for the buttonbands; Bobbins; Tapestry Needle; Row counter (suggested) Notes To shape the neck openings, we recommend the ‘short-row wrapping’ method. It makes a much nicer neck opening than binding-off and picking-up stitches. Do not bind off stitches when you reach the top of the chart for the front and back sweater pieces. They will be bound off together when all three pieces are complete. Illustrated instructions may be found at our website, www.sweaterscapes.com. Sweater Back & Fronts (see pages 2 & 3) Sleeves (see chart on page 4) Finishing Weave in the ends from the intarsia knitting. Block the sweater pieces. Bind off fronts and back together at shoulders. Sew side seams together, using invisible stitch. Work optional embroidery on left front. Neck band With size 7 needle knit stitches of right front neck off the circular needle, hiding the wraps. Pick up 15 (14) stitches along remaining edge of right front neck and knit across back neck stitches. Pick up 15 (14) stitches along edge of left front neck edge, then knit the stitches off the circular needle, again hiding the wraps. There should be 84 (88) stitches. Knit neckband in a K1, P1, pattern for 1¼ inches. Change to Stockinette Stitch, so that the purl side of the fabric rolls to the outside. Bind off after 1 inch. Buttonband Pattern Wrong side: *K1, P1 through back of stitch*, repeat between *s. Right side: Slip first stitch knitwise, *P1, K1 through back of stitch*, repeat between *s, ending with P1. Front Right Buttonband Remember to work 7 buttonholes, evenly spaced, up the band. Using the double pointed needles, cast on 6 stitches. Pick up the first stitch at the bottom of the sweater’s front edge. Work this stitch together with the first stitch on the double pointed needle. Every other row, when you are at the sweater edge, pick up a stitch and work it together with the first stitch on your needle, so that you are attaching the band to the sweater as you knit. Bind off when the band reaches the top of the neckband rib, before the rolled edge begins. Left Front Buttonband Begin the band at the top of the sweater edge, just below the rolled edge, and work down in the same manner and pattern as the Right Front Buttonband, omitting the buttonholes. More Finishing Sew on sleeves. Sew an invisible seam under sleeves. Sew buttons onto left buttonband, matching the buttonholes on the right band.

Notes To shape the neck openings, we recommend the ‘short-row wrapping’ method. It makes a much nicer neck opening than binding-off and picking-up stitches. Sweater Back & Fronts (see pages 2 & 3)

Sleeves (see chart on page 4)

Finishing • Weave in the ends from the intarsia knitting.

• Block the sweater pieces.

• Bind off fronts and back together at shoulders.

• Sew side seams together, using invisible stitch.

• Work optional embroidery on left front.
